Republicans win right to challenge Wash. state election: Republicans have won a victory in their challenge to the election of Governor Gregoire. The judge says Republicans will be allowed to use "proportional analysis" to prove their case that illegal votes swayed the election.
It's good news, that's what's up. Kind of amazing in this state, but the RATS were very blatant in their election stealing this time. Could have been a crucial error. But this one is going to get bloody as they see their absolute power in danger. They won't go down without scorched earth everywhere around here.
While it is great news...it does mean a new election might occur...and King county still exists....so I don't see how you can beat the corruption there. We'd have to have at least 5,000 poll watchers active in the county to make it work legal.
1) This new election would be the most closely monitored in state history, with both parties heavily involved.
2) Since taking office, Christine Gregoire has done anything but help her cause in the public sentiment arena.
3) Anti-Gregoire sentiment is so strong in the rest of the state that it would overpower anything KC could muster. The anger people have trumps party affiliation and finds its roots in resentment at being dictated by one county. Many Democrats, too, from rural areas of the state are hopping mad for this reason, and would much rather link arms with fellow-rural Republicans than with the likes of Ron Simms and Dean Logan.

Democrats are opposing this with the grestest of fierceness, but isn't this another way of "discerning the intent of the voters by interpreting the chads"?
I thought they wanted every vote counted.

The Republicans are always asked to let it go, some kind of mantra that is supposed to make us look better. Well, I agree that it usually doesn't work to get down and dirty with the dems, but when given an opportunity to show their dirty deed to the public...why not? 4 years is a long time and people have short, selective memories. By then it'll be a whole different song and dance.

Republicans win Washington state election challenge

SEATTLE (Reuters) - A judge gave Washington state Republicans a victory on Monday that kept alive their legal challenge to last November's razor-thin election win by Democratic Gov. Christine Gregoire.
Gregoire took office in January following a 129-vote margin of victory -- the closest in a governor's race in state history.
Republican candidate Dino Rossi has refused to concede the race, which he won narrowly in the first count only to lose in a later, final recount.
Chelan County Superior Court Judge John Bridges has ruled Republicans can use what is known as "proportional analysis" in their legal argument to potentially take votes away from Gregoire.
"That was a very good day in court for us," said Mary Lane, Rossi's spokeswoman. "If we had lost this, it would have been impossible to continue."
The trial in the Republicans' lawsuit is scheduled for May 23.
With the slim margin out of a total of 2.9 million votes, proportional analysis could tip the vote in either direction, since illegal votes, mostly from felons, would be subtracted from each candidate in the same proportion that votes were cast for them in each precinct.
In the count after the election, illegal votes were disallowed in a way that took an equal number from each candidate.
But in an example of proportional analysis used in court, if 10 improper votes in a precinct were found that went 60 percent for Gregoire and 40 percent for Rossi, she would lose six votes and he would lose four, instead of the votes being subtracted equally.
Paul Berendt, the Democratic Party's state chairman, said the ruling also helped Democrats, who will be allowed to present evidence in the trial of illegal voting that helped Rossi.

Great ruling from a Superior Court judge! But aren't the Rats sure to appeal and find a more sympathetic ear on the way up the chain?
Yes! Chalk one up for the judge who made the right decision.
I read about that Martin Luther King county bill...and am not surprised. I was stationed up there at McChord in the 1980s...and used to laugh at the locals and their naive ways. If anyone said they were from Seattle...you could automatically give them a zero for common sense. If anyone said they were from Tacoma...you had to ask if their family was connected to the dockworkers union or the mafia. If anyone said they were from Olympia...you had to ask if they knew how to balance a checkbook. The whole western side of the state really is a joke. It ought to be declared two separate states. I'd even say the same about Oregon.
