An amateur bomb-maker in Suffolk County is in police custody this morning after testing the explosions in his back yard.

Police charged 28-year-old Robert Rotella of Shore Manor with criminal weapons possession after they were told he accepted delivery of chemicals that were used to make explosives.

He was arraigned yesterday in First District Court in Islip and released on his own recognizance.

Rotella's neighbors simply said he is no threat to national security and that he makes fireworks for fun.

I did whatever he was doing and more when I was young. Of course, that was when this Nation wanted folks to grow to become engineers and scientists. Nowadays, anyone who is not in the direct employ of the government is an Enemy of the State.

I used to buy ingredients in different pharmacies, the idea being that the pharmacists wouldn't know what I was up to. Turns out, they did. I still have all My vital parts, 50 years later, and a good basic grasp of chemistry.
I'm afraid to teach My Grandson any of the more interesting uses for chicken poop, don't want Him arrested as a terrorist.

It's just like zero tolerance policies in the schools. If they don't prosecute Mr. Rotella for making fireworks, they feel that they will not be able to prosecute Mahmood Jihad Akbar when they catch him with the same materials packed into a cask with nails and screws.

Also, they make an example of this guy to keep down the numbers of innocent people who will try this stuff. That gives them smaller numbers of cases to monitor and exercise judgment about (or refuse to exercise any judgment about).

Every policy that gets implemented to help our war on terror gets exploited. Look at how the 'left' is exploiting the Patriot Act to prosecute music downloaders. The Patriot Act is being exploited to round up evil college students for music swapping.

No different than what is being done with this guy for making fireworks.

Yeah! Let's also take guns from everybody. It'll give the authorities more time to concentrate on Mahmood Jihad Akbar's possession of them. </sarcasm>

By today's standards, Grammy daddy, Grammy daddy-in-law, Mr Grammy and Grammy Jr. would all be in jail. They all did a lot of fireworks and minor bomb making in their youths...... pay attention..... they never hurt any property or living creatures. It was all scientific experimentation. In fact Grammy daddy-in-law was a scientist as a result.

We have a young man in our town who has been charged as a terrorist for doing a drain cleaner bomb with his buddies. Zero brains in authorities seems to be spreading from the schools.

>"Amateur [!] Bomb Maker" Arrested

Easy for the cops --
They just order everyone,
"Hold up five fingers!"

And the guy that's got
two fingers and three small stubs
gets a ride downtown!

Even the totalitarian mass murderer Stalin allowed Kytushin to play with his rockets.

Possibly incorrect terminology emplyed in this article. By definition--amateur bombmakers are among the deceased. Only the Pros continue on.

Any bomb that you can set off in your backyard isn't much of a bomb.

Awwwww contrare man amy.......:o)

Theres a mpeg floating around the net that shows a dufus with a 2 ltr pepsi bottle with some HTH pool cleaner in the bottom and is filmed adding rubbing alcohol to it, closing the top and being told to shake it by some bimbo off screen........he loses his arm up to the elbow in the explosion.

As long as wally world is open for business then anarchist will have what they need to hurt themselves if we're lucky and others if we're unlucky.

Yeah, I know what you mean. I want to steer mine away from engineering as well, so they won't have to get pooped on the "American Way".

Sigh. This just isn't the Nation it once was. The ignorant turds in charge sure don't know how to run a railroad. Neither to the Sheeple.
