Laura leaves 'em laughing, gasping (Not a very family-values-type speech..very risque: David Korn)

Who knew? First lady Laura Bush took over the podium from her husband at Saturday night's annual White House Correspondents' Association dinner and knocked 'em dead, keeping Washington's most powerful politicos in stitches as she worked the ballroom like a seasoned stand-up comic.

CUT

Although Washington's movers and shakers laughed at Mrs. Bush's performance, some in the press woke up with a Sunday morning hangover and began to criticize her monologue as immodest at best and downright bawdy at worst.

"Laura Bush cracks risque jokes at the White House Correspondents' dinner," sniffed Agence France-Presse. CNN reporter Elaine Quijano, who attended the dinner, also apparently had her sensibilities scarred by some of the first lady's quips.

"In some respects, I think for some folks it was a little shocking because she kind of crossed the line a little bit in some people's minds," she said.

"It was very risque," the Nation's David Korn said yesterday on Fox News. "I was wondering what the social conservatives and James Dobson had to say about all these jokes that were laced with sexual innuendo. Not a very family-values-type speech. I'm not sure I want to explain a lot of those jokes to my 4-year-old."

Eyebrows were raised by the first lady's bit about the president's ranching skills, which Mrs. Bush said her husband lacked because the elite schools he attended, Andover and Yale, "don't have a real strong ranching program."

She then added: "He's learned a lot about ranching since that first year when he tried to milk the horse. What's worse, it was a male horse."

The crowd howled. The joke, a female Associated Press reporter said, "had women giggling in the bathroom."

Unfortunately, your type of thinking is why the GOP is infested with RINOs.

Your type of thinking makes it easier for the Democrats to regain and retain power.

It's much larger than that. Long and short, you're a hypocrite.

The DNA evidence is inconclusive. It proves A Jefferson was the father. It does not prove which one. I am prone to believe TJ was responsible. However, more study on the subject could be done.

If Terrorayyzza Heinz-Kerry had said the same lines, they'd be talking about how intelligent, clever and witty she was...she'd even pop in an F word here and there.

Winning is everything, if you happen to be Bear Bryant or Vince Lombardi. But politics is more than football ...

Sure winning isn't important in politics at all, as long as you have losers like Ashcroft as your representative. Barbour? What elected positions has he held?

Besides, there are many examples of solid conservatives who have held elective and appointive office: John Ashcroft, for one; Haley Barbour, for another.

John Ashcroft LOST his last election.

Got any others you'd care to mention that you claim got elected ONLY with "conservative" votes?

How do you explain Alan Keyes continually losing then?

Don't tell me to lighten up. I'm not going around with my collar buttoned so tight it's cutting the oxygen supply off at the neck, and my shirt stuffed down so far the seam is down at my knees.

Please cite me an instance of someone who has said the Founding Fathers were morally perfect men. Even George Washington, who was very self-conscious about his public demeanor and ethical standards, was a slave owner who did not free his charges until his death.

What differentiated the Founders from most of the current generation of politicians was the almost universal conviction that government was founded on immutable moral principles derived from either natural law or divine revelation. Whether Christian or not, the Founding Fathers would have been aghast at the arguments of pseudo-conservatives that we must bend our moral principles and our standards based on public opinion and popular tastes.

Did I ping you to that post?

Ah - I'm a hypocrite for expressing a strong opinion against someone disparaging my marriage - a very crass thing that decent posters don't do to each other - but I did not resort to profanity, just made a common FR statement used when the other poster has crossed the line of decorum. Would YOU react meekly if someone did that to you? Or are you so wrapped up in the politics of this that you cannot even acknowledge that the otehr poster did something in very bad taste?

They don't care if the Democrats take over the White House, the Congress, whatever.

In fact, a lot of them would prefer it.

You were the one that kept on about how your wife was outraged by Laura's comments had you just left it at one mention no one would have majored on it but you would not let it rest.

I am quite happy to debate your real issues on the matter but so far I can make out that it offended your wife's sensibilities - according to you.

John Ashcroft LOST his last election.

I'm from Missouri and technically, Ashcroft didn't lose his last election. It was stolen by our deceased governor's wife with the help of liberal judges in St. Louis, but you're right that he couldn't win a national election.

It's interesting that you remain in the past tense, and I ask you about the future, but you hedge. You say you "would never go back" but you say that you aren't ashamed. Why would you never go back if you aren't ashamed? Why not have a stripper every night in your home along with all your other "God-fearing" friends?
