Laura leaves 'em laughing, gasping (Not a very family-values-type speech..very risque: David Korn)

Who knew? First lady Laura Bush took over the podium from her husband at Saturday night's annual White House Correspondents' Association dinner and knocked 'em dead, keeping Washington's most powerful politicos in stitches as she worked the ballroom like a seasoned stand-up comic.

CUT

Although Washington's movers and shakers laughed at Mrs. Bush's performance, some in the press woke up with a Sunday morning hangover and began to criticize her monologue as immodest at best and downright bawdy at worst.

"Laura Bush cracks risque jokes at the White House Correspondents' dinner," sniffed Agence France-Presse. CNN reporter Elaine Quijano, who attended the dinner, also apparently had her sensibilities scarred by some of the first lady's quips.

"In some respects, I think for some folks it was a little shocking because she kind of crossed the line a little bit in some people's minds," she said.

"It was very risque," the Nation's David Korn said yesterday on Fox News. "I was wondering what the social conservatives and James Dobson had to say about all these jokes that were laced with sexual innuendo. Not a very family-values-type speech. I'm not sure I want to explain a lot of those jokes to my 4-year-old."

Eyebrows were raised by the first lady's bit about the president's ranching skills, which Mrs. Bush said her husband lacked because the elite schools he attended, Andover and Yale, "don't have a real strong ranching program."

She then added: "He's learned a lot about ranching since that first year when he tried to milk the horse. What's worse, it was a male horse."

The crowd howled. The joke, a female Associated Press reporter said, "had women giggling in the bathroom."

Had the President and Senator Rick Santorum stuck to their principles and supported the pro-life, conservative candidate, Pat Toomey, we would have two conservative Senators from a Northeastern state today

I didn't realize that PA was so conservative that the winner of the Republican primary automatically wins the Senate seat.

Here in Texas, we still have to wait for the general election for the winner to be determined.

Maybe someday Texas will get to be as conservative as PA is...

Spoken like a True Wooden Stick in the Mud who has all the subtlety of a broom. Apparently God has tried numerous times to get the point across about events in your life, but the irony of situations escapes you. I for one know God has a wickedly cool sense of humor, and it is often through irony. Which was something employed by Laura Bush, but you are so convinced of your self-rigteousness, you miss the point entirely.

Sheesh. I hope you're not married, or ever plan to get married. It would never survive your perfection!

Pennsylvania is mildly liberal overall, yet Rick Santorum got elected to the US Senate. If Santorum won in spite of the state's political posture, why would Pat Toomey not have won?

As for Texas, it is just about a one party GOP state now on the statewide level. No Democrat has won a statewide race there in ten years. The last Democratic Presidential nominee to carry the Lone Star State was Jimmy Carter, and that was almost 30 years ago.

Your argument does not stand2reason.

It's funny that the holier than thou crowd are the ones making the connection. Perhaps some repressed thoughts somewhere.....;-)

You've got THAT right.

Those of us who are actually innocent thought nothing of the things Laura said.

The ones who are screaming at the top of their lungs that they are holy, are the ones that found the dark, dirty meaning (that wasn't really there).

VERY revealing.

On the other hand, there is much to be learned from this: "if your brother sins, rebuke him.."

Which is why so many Christians on this thread have rebuked you, farmer.

You have sinned mightily, and need to repent.

If you are a Christian, I say that as a sister in Christ. Your behavior has been reprehensible, and un-Christlike.

Your job as a Christian is to emulate Christ.

Your job as a Christian is NOT to make false accusations in arrogance and pride.

It is not your job to make me uncomfortable........that is the job of the Holy Spirit..........and I have no reason whatsoever to believe that He has spoken through you..........or even resides in you, to be perfectly honest.

And I say that as one who has walked with the Lord for almost 50 years.......

Some said that Specter endorsed Santorum when he was up for re-election; and, thus, Rick was obligated to do the same thing. Santorum enjoys power and has his eye on the presidency endorsing Specter to prevent another popular conservative like Patrick Toomey from saturating the market.

Thanks. I thought the discussion went from the ridiculous to the sublime. Some people have a rather warped view of life. It was time for a little humor.

I especially liked the part about Laura's not being satisfied sexually.......... now THAT's a laugh if ever there was one!

Seriously though, I wonder what IS wrong with these guys? It's obvious that the First Couple's marital bliss disturbs them........... Makes you kinda wonder, doesn't it?

Exactly right. It's impossible to praise Haley Barbour in excess of what he deserves. That man is thee best, bar none.

I am so glad you chimed in, I forgot to ping you. I know how much you really appreciate Barbour. :)

... As for Haley Barbour, he is presently Governor of Mississippi.

To tell the truth, this fact had slipped my mind. Had Barbour any previous elected experience?
