Wahhabism -- the Syphilis of Islam
FrontPageMagazine.com ^ | May 2, 2005 | Stephen Schwartz

Posted on 05/02/2005 5:19:48 AM PDT by SJackson

The conviction of Ali al-Timimi crystallizes a disease and the medicine needed to cure it.

Sarajevo, Bosnia-Herzegovina - These thoughts emerge from a location I consider among the highest intellectual points of contemporary Islam: from within the walls of the Gazi Husrevbeg Medresa in Sarajevo. It is therefore a message from inside the Islamic umma, or world community, to the umma, and above all to American Muslims.

I have written and spoken in the past of Wahhabism, the Saudi state cult, as a cancer within Islam. I have lately perceived a better parallel. Stalinism was once called “the syphilis of the labor movement.” Wahhabism, the ideology that inspires al-Qaida and Zarqawi, is the syphilis of Islam.

Nevertheless, there is good news: syphilis may be cured. But the patient requires medicines and a renunciation of corrupt habits that lead to infection.

American Islam requires the medicine of pluralism and the renunciation of the corruption represented by Saudi/Wahhabi money. Otherwise it faces the dementia that characterizes the final stages of syphilis.

Nothing could better illustrate the impact of the Wahhabi illness on Islam than the verdict against 41-year old Ali al-Timimi, who was convicted Tuesday, April 26, in a North Virginia court, of inciting terrorism in the aftermath of September 11.

Al-Timimi, a U.S. citizen by birth, an Iraqi by ethnic background, and a student of Islam in the Wahhabi kingdom of Saudi Arabia, is an unsurpassable poster boy for the Wahhabi lobby that dominates American Islam. News accounts have grossly exaggerated his significance, comparing him to a “rock star” and granting him an “international following.” In reality, al-Timimi was an obscure figure, along with the rest of the Virginia Jihad Network, of which he was the alleged spiritual leader until their arrests in 2003.

As revealed at his website, www.altimimi.org, al-Timimi has scientific training, having “received his doctorate in computational biology [from George Mason University], on the topic of ‘Chaos and Complexity in Cancer.’” His attraction to the crazy “end-times” theology of the Wahhabis reflects a notable phenomenon: many professionally and scientifically educated individuals in the Muslim umma are attracted to extremism. This is, to emphasize, a symptom of intellectual instability, not of the impact of one’s technical schooling.

In a 2003 e-mail, al-Timimi described the U.S. space shuttle disaster as "a good omen: promising that "Western supremacy (especially that of America) that began 500 years ago is coming to and end, God willing." Exultation at the shuttle disaster would hardly seem normal in a man of science no less that religion.

With the inflated ego typical of Wahhabis, al-Timimi claims to be “one of the few Muslim experts in the U.S. in the field of Islamic Theology and Philosophy.” This assertion reflects the Wahhabi claim that they alone are Muslims, to say nothing of the cult’s contempt for non-Muslim experts and scholars.

Those of us who were victims of harassment by the chief activist in al-Timimi’s group, Randall “Ismail” Royer, now serving a 20-year federal prison sentence, knew extremely well that something was going on, but we could not know the extent of their activities, notwithstanding their meager numbers.

But, most important, there are hundreds more al-Timimis, possibly thousands, in America and Canada. Al-Timimi embodies Wahhabism at its worst, as a systematic organizer and agitator for violence and extremism. Islam teaches that the first responsibility of the Muslim is to protect the security and prosperity of the believer’s own family and other members of the community. Al-Tamimi’s actions – recruiting from U.S. soil for armed defense of the Taliban regime in Afghanistan and terror in Kashmir; teaching that the space shuttle explosion was a sign of divine disfavor to the republic of which he was a born citizen; preaching the imminence of the “end times” – do not secure the safety of American Muslims. These actions greatly endanger American Islam, as they put all Americans at risk.

Royer, for his part, already told his hometown paper, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, in 2003, that while he was employed by the Wahhabi lobby’s direct-action arm, the Council for American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), he followed the counsel of al-Timimi and fled the U.S. for Bosnia after September 11th. But the Balkan republic was not to his liking; its Islam is too Western, something Wahhabis cannot abide. Royer was soon back in Washington, dedicated full-time to schmoozing on the Hill, recruitment for terror in the Indian subcontinent and the harassment of peaceful and loyal citizens and residents. Bosnia was well rid of him.

Adventurist elements such as al-Timimi, with their community and religious influence over Islam in North America, have turned the faith into a seditious conspiracy, inciting war on the country that has nurtured and protected them: the United States. But the religion of Muhammad, especially in its Sunni form, has always hated sedition. Muslims living in America are required to obey the laws of the United States and to avoid and denounce terrorist incitement and activism whether it is found in the mosque, school, or community bureaucracy. This is a matter of the security of themselves and their loved ones, and of Islamic law.

Bosnian Muslims survived the horror of the Balkan wars of the 1990s, with hundreds of thousands of dead, tens of thousands of rape victims, and thousands of destroyed mosques, but with their Islamic spirituality and conscience intact. They did this because they were firm in their commitment to civility with their non-Muslim neighbors and acceptance of the legal norms of the West. Their Islamic leaders do not brand non-Muslims “unbelievers” (much less “infidels,” a term the Christian origin of which is revealed by its Latin roots.) They were tested by atrocities and horrors, and were forced to fight for their lives. But these Muslim teachers accept peace and preach peace. In all my time with them I have never heard the term “jihad” pass their lips.

By contrast, Wahhabis like al-Timimi are not religious leaders, any more than the Atlanta “Christian” terrorist Eric Rudolph is a religious apostle, and their activities cannot and will not be shielded by the U.S. Constitution.

Until American Muslims organize to strike down the Wahhabi domination of their schools and mosques, the antireligious program of indoctrination by the Saudi-backed fanatics will threaten the safety of all Americans, but especially of Muslims. Time is running out, and the illness requires an emergency cure.

American Islam must be as American as any other faith, or it is doomed. Let al-Timimi be sentenced, and let him use his imprisonment to ponder how he has betrayed his fellow-Muslims by luring them into the trap of extremism, lawlessness, and crime. Better that he had studied the ailments within Islam than a computer model of cancer. Islam is a religion of laws, and by its authentic and traditional laws al-Timimi must be punished to the maximum by the government of his country of birth, the United States.

[Note: Stephen Schwartz’s Two Faces of Islam has just been published in Bosnian, with the support of that country’s leading Islamic scholars.]

Isham is a political ideology in addition to a religion. Would we tolerate a "defanged" Nazism if the Germans' had called it their native religion?

After all the Aryans were supposed to be "God's" master race by birthright (whether they actually invoked god or not).

Has the author done any research?

He's spent a lot of time actually LIVING there.

Large areas of Bosnia were ethnically cleansed of infidels.

And the reverse is also true.
4/244/01 Bosnian Serbs blocked a takeover of their part of Serajevo after an int’l. judge gave it to the Muslim-Croat federation.
(WSJ, 4/25/01, p.A1)

4/30/99 Serbian forces began a forced evacuation of Prizren and 10,000 people crossed the border to Albania.
(SFC, 5/1/99, p.A6)

5/2/99 Serbian police ambushed a convoy of ethnic Albanians near Studime and 109 people were killed.
(SFC, 6/19/99, p.A12)(SFC, 3/8/02, p.A14)

3/31/99 Dzakovo, Kosovo, a witness reported the Serbian paramilitary forces invade a mosque during morning prayers and killed some 80 people.
(SFC, 4/6/99, p.A8)

Just a couple of quick examples

Some televangelists are the "professional wrestlers" of religion. Con artists pushing their stage show for a willing audience.

I am unfamiliar with any born again Christians murdering those Christians who have left the church. The closest comparison that could be drawn are parents who have their kids kidnapped from a cult so that they could be deprogrammed.

You will find more paranoid secrecy and thought control under a religion like Scientology. They DO seek to silence their critics.

As to Jack Chick, there are a lot of atheists that buy his packets of comics to get a cheap laugh. An underground comix publisher even did an overview of the tracts that were published.

Islam is a sham. It is the only specifically antiChristian faith (apart from Satanism which doesn't even believe there is a God).

Islam is specifically antiChristian because it is the only faith outside of Christianity to recognize the existence of Jesus yet it denies His divinity, His crucifixion, and His resurrection. Other than that, they follow the same texts as us < /sarcasm >

The koran is a corruption of the Judeo-Christian Bible and the only "reformation" for muslims is to return to the original text, not the rantings of a child-fornicating, enslaving, warrior.

If Nazism had taken hold in Argentina after WWII, would we have tolerated it as "merely a nuisance"?

Keep saying it!
So you 'cure' a cancer within a monster. You still have the monster.
There is no place in this world for the monster-for it will forever be what it is: a cesspool that breeds evil.

I believe "wideawake" is correct---Schwartz is a practitioner of Sufi Islam. I believe he also writes fairly regularly for "The Weekly Standard".

Just refer back to my comment in post number 9: Schwartz' affiliation with the cult of death, Sufi or otherwise, indicates that he isn't thinking straight, and Weekly Standard or otherwise, he should be politely dismissed. Islime is by its nature intolerant, and that derives from its foundational words (Koran, Hadiths, Sunnah). Intolerance that is systemic and built in BY DEFINITION is not possible to be removed, nor moderated. As much as I enjoy Schwartz' writings, as well as those of Daniel Pipes, their constant exhortations to support islime-ic "moderates" are starting to ring hollow. In islime, those who deviate from the ravings of the pedophile phalse prophet are viewed as apostate, and as subject to death as a Christian or Jew who refuses dhimma....and so-called "moderate" muslimes are viewed as apostate.

So again I ask, why should we pay any attention to Schwartz beyond his periodic statements of the obvious?

The piquant twist is that Stephen Schwartz is a convert to Islam. He is a self-avowed "Jew-for-Allah" who has taken to calling himself Suleyman Ahmad, but he keeps this significant fact concealed from his readers. Why? He provides the answer, too:

"Since accepting Islam, I have proceeded carefully in informing my friends, neighbours, co-workers, and others . . . I want to proceed in a way that will do the most for the welfare of the Ummah and for better relations between all believers in la ilaha illallah."

Since "the welfare of the Ummah" is his main motive, everything is allowed, including lies and slanders.

Please keep in mind that the Serbian "paramilitary forces" are nothing more than Communist thugs who cut their teeth repressing the Serbian Orthodox Church. I know you weren't attempting to lump the Serbian Christians in with that group, but there are some on Free Republic whose anti-Serb hatreds run so deep that they find it easy to ignore that distinction.

They're usually the ones who run in circles squawking "Milosevic! Srebrenica! Milosevic! Srebrenica! Milosevic! Srebrenica!"

Neither of which had anything to do with the Serbian Christians whose ancient churches in Kosovo are being lost to the world at the hands of the Soros-supported Islamofascists.

About the Balkens has always been, there more than enough blame to go around to tar everyone there.
My problem is with those that portray ALL Serbs as pure as the driven snow and ALL Muslims as evil incarnate.

While certain folks certainly accuse anyone who would dare post anything in support of any Serb on the face of the planet of taking that sort of stance, the truth is that most of the pro-Serb posters on FR simply challenge the concept that all Serbs are "evil incarnate" and do not deserve justice in any form. These are the folks who just can't bring themselves to condemn the burning of the Serbian Churches in Kosovo, for instance.

You'll also find those same folks going to great lengths to avoid accusing any Muhammedans of any wrongdoing in the Balkans regardless of the evidence.

I guess you don't understand Wahhabism. It IS the Syphilis of Islam. Christians, Jews and Muslims HAVE coexisted peacefully in the past, but Wahhabism and the other fanatic cults which preceeded and accompanied it, have changed the face of contemporary Islam.

Not all Muslims are haters of the west and non-Muslims, but all Wahhabists are. Wahhabism is anti-American, anti-western, anti-Christian, ant-Jewish. Its totally evil and those who practise it are either totally evil or they are superficial Wahhabists, cynically covering their feelings with a thin veneer to maintain status.

And the WORST thing about Wahhabism is the fact we feed it with our petro dollars. The reason that Saudi Sheiks walk hand in hand with American presidents is because they need American money to fund their terror machine.

Sufism and other moderate forms of Islam are just as proscribed in Saudi Arabia as Christianity and Judaism. The seizure of power in Saudi Arabia by the Wahhabist Saud clan was accompanied by the massacre of thousands of non-Wahhabist Muslims.
