WASHINGTON (AP) -- First lady Laura Bush stole the show with a surprise comedy routine that ripped President Bush and brought an audience that included much of official Washington and a dash of Hollywood to a standing ovation at a dinner honoring award-winning journalists.

The president began a speech late Saturday at the 91st annual White House Correspondents' Association dinner, but was quickly "interrupted" by his wife in an obviously planned ploy.

"Not that old joke, not again," she said to the delight of the audience. "I've been attending these dinners for years and just quietly sitting there. I've got a few things I want to say for a change."

That's very funny! I'll bet he got the silent treatment pretty often from his wife! I'd also bet she made sure she had money when she went into a store with him after that.

I liked that line about Texas Chain Saw Massacre and GW, Dick Cheney and Rummy.

The line about Condi asking the president to hold her purse and the one where the guy asked the president what his middle name was and he said. "W" was pretty funny too.

Hubby and I went out to eat after Church this morning.

A large group of 70+ types were at the next table over, and one woman carried on for a good 5 minutes about how cute and funny Laura was.

She was quoting one joke after another!

Did she quote the one about "milking a male horse"? That one was just so "classy".

I'm sorry my handle offends you. If you've been following this thread, my handle came from one of those "blow dry" moments.

I have never had a colonoscopy, nor am I in a field that would make the product known to me. My name is Holly & "Holly" was already taken, so I borrowed a name from a character in a pretty well known novel & movie, "Breakfast at Tiffany's". But then I messed up on the capitalization of the key character's last name. After discovering my error, I never bothered to correct it, cuz that would have required applying for another new handle here. This one is already my 2nd. I lost the password to the previous one "Tada" or "TaDa", when the hard drive on my computer went out & *that* was after I lost my old e-mail account to some computer cracker that changed a bunch of my passwords.

Now that you know more about the history of my handle than you ever wanted to know, consider it payback for "sharing" more about yourself than I was interested in knowing about you.

:)

I think of Audrey Hepburn & "Breakfast At Tiffany's" whenever I see your screenname. A great movie.

My son & his girlfriend rented the video a little while back...........apparently there is a rock video or something that has a line that says something like "We both liked "Breakfast At Tiffany's"............have no idea who or what it is........anyway.........

They wanted to see the movie because of that.:)

LMAO. That clinches it!! Their paths crossed somewhere back there, they had to! I can't tell you how many times my mom embarassed the hell out of me. But looking back on it, I no doubt needed deflating a little.

Have you seen this man?

Asks for the cash value of a prize set of football tickets to report on his income tax

Has a 230-channel satellite dish, with every channel locked out

Prays for "the middle men who jacked up the price"

Considers insurance a form of gambling

Thinks dice are wicked

Thinks Laura Bush's performance at the Correspondant's Dinner was "Degrading"

The notion of the Bush family huddled around the TV set watching Hollywood pop culture just doesn't seem very comforting to me.

As if.....

It is a good movie. I've heard at least one song reference the movie, but couldn't name a song if my life depended on it & none of my sons are around to ask.

I'm glad that at least someone understands where my handle came from, because if I ever discovered that the majority had taken it the way that previous poster had taken it, I might be mortified. Still, I might not be mortified, cuz getting all flustered about something like that seems to be one of those things I just kind of outgrew in middle age.

Get a life, buddy. Laura Bush is the classiest First Lady that we have had. She is a first class First Lady.

Hmmmm. You must have been in the humor transplant queue for a while now.

Perhaps your handle is appropriate after all.

A sense of humor is solely held by humans. It is what sets us apart from all animals; no dog, pig, or chicken ever told a joke.

And you're wrong about questionable topics being unpresidential. Many historical scholars have made note of Abraham Licoln's penchant for telling jokes, and some of them were quite bawdy for their time. Humor and the theater were Lincoln's main means of temporarily escaping from the horror he was living. That attempt to escape ultimately got him killed. In seeking humor, Lincoln was attempting to blow off steam. That's what the correspondent's dinner is about. All American's need to laugh on a regular basis, including the President. If what Laura Bush did was wrong, why was her husband, a good and moral man, busting a gut at her remarks?

Warren G. Harding once stated that it was a good thing he wasn't born a girl, "because I never could say no."

I agree with your premise that there is a line of dignity which an administration should never cross.

Laura Bush didn't cross it.

"She says, full volume, 'This looks like somebody's d*ck!'. Yeah, I ran for the doors. Never looked at grandpa the same again."

Would you please STOP IT ALREADY!!!

I just spit a mouthful of Dago Red Wine onto my carpet!
