Shortly before the plane touched down at 9 p.m. in Atlanta, a flight attendant handed out a written statement from the Wilbanks family to the media that said: "She has spoken to her fiance. He cannot wait to see her. She says the wedding is not called off, just postponed."

Nice isn't it. It gives a satisfaction quotient to life that is only rivaled by having children who marry well and having nice grandchildren with bright eyes and minds and hearts.

There will have to be some forgiveness on the man's part.
I don't see why people here count this couple out. In marriages all over the nation, spouses cheat, lie and have addication problems. They are praised for "getting through it," so why not forgive the lady if she apologizes and makes it up to her fiance?

If he forgives and doesn't use it against her, they have a good chance to have a happy marriage. If he uses it against her, then their marriage is doomed. It is supposed to be about trust, love and partnership, not one upsmanship and emotional blackmail.
If the man intends to hold this against her, then they shouldn't marry. I suspect that the trust has been broken and HE will now by the one that has cold feet.
But we really don't know what her reasons were. For all we know, he could have cheated on her at the bachelor party or exhibited behavior (such as alcoholism or jealousy) that threw up red flags in her mind.

How do we know she didn't have a legitimate reason for taking off? We are assuming this man is without fault. For all we know, he could have slapped her around, drinks too much or had too much fun at the bachelor party. I have a friend in San Diego who didn't show up for her wedding after learning her fiance received oral sex at his bachelor party.
a good southern wife keeps a well-tended oleannder for this reason.....

Maybe a loon for lying and saying she was abducted, but not for having doubts and running away. I suspect she changed her mind after having thought about it and made up the story so her fiance would still want to marry her. For all we know she could have thought "Why am I marrying this man after what he did?" Haven't you thought about the possibility that he did something that raised red flags?

Saying she's a "psycho" without knowing why she ran out is silly. Maybe he cheated on her at his bachelor party.

If they were married and she took off, people would wonder what he did. But not in this case. Why is it worse to leave before the wedding rather than after it when the "issue" (whatever it is) surfaces?

Um, yes this does happen, frequently. I once spied, with my bride-to-be friend, on her fiance at his bachelor party. He got a lap dance and her fiance was grabbing her boobs. The father in law to be was there, and took part also. The best man paid her for sex, we later learned, and he was married. My friend did marry him, and he did cheat on her while away on business trips.
You are naive if you think most bachelor parties are innocent fun.

Anything is possible and I am not saying she isn't a flake or is wife material. Only that we don't know all the facts so we can't make a clear judgement. I hope it isn't a situation where he's a total wimp and she is a controlling meglomaniac.
This is the stupidest thing I can imagine.
I was just saying the same thing to my wife. Great minds think alike.
Given the wedding and reception plans, I figure her parents are quite well-to-do. That may have played a role in the prosecuter's decision.
We had a similar incident happen not far from here last year. But she was ordered to pay restitution.
Whatever happens, the money that was to be spent on the big wedding and reception should be paid back to law enforcement entities as reimbursement for their expenses incurred in looking for her.
