DUBAI The deputy to Al Qaedas frontman in Iraq, Abu Musab Al Zarqawi, has asked for orders to attack the White House and the Vatican, according to an audiotape posted on the Internet yesterday.
To our emir (leader) Abu Musab Al Zarqawi ... we say: We are ready for your orders. We are determined to fight the infidels, said Sheikh Abdulrahman Al Iraqi in the tape, whose authenticity could not be verified.
If you point at the White House or the Vatican, we would make every effort so that you reach your target, he added, in the online statement broadcast a day after a call by Zarqawi to his followers to intensify their fight against the Americans in Iraq.
This is the first time that Al Qaeda, the terror group led by Osama bin Laden, mentions the Vatican as a possible target.

I sent an email to the White House and the FBI to Zarqeeri on the FBI's most wanted list. Bin Laden was places on the list for blowing up our embassies; Zarqawi should be placed on it as well minimally for killing one of our diplomats in Jordan and plotting to attack our embassies in Jordan. The press would eat it up for a few days and I think it would help the war effort for the public to get doused again with the fact Iraq is part of the War on Terror. So if you have any extra time, you might want to drop a email to the White House or FBI asking that his name be included.
Please tell me that this piece of camel crap is targetted for execution on sight.
If not, why not?
The Vatican is one soft target.
Well, the Vatican said it wanted to reach out to the Muslims, I guess the Muslims are reaching back.
That's a sure way of getting their hands bitten.
The likes of Zarqawi are killing their fellow Muslims in dizzying numbers. Muslims that are not like Zarqawi. So, no, those Muslims that are not like Zarqawi and that he is killing certainly are not "reaching back" to attack the Vatican or WH.
I cannot believe that they would be so stupid as to attack the Vatican. It's not as soft a target as you might think, and even a failed attack would start a true crusade the likes the world has never seen.
The single fastest way to get Mecca and just about every other Islamic holy site turned into a glass plain would be to attack the Vatican.
Swineherder Zarqawri, the young Modoks each have a broomstraw for you if they find you and they will take their time.
Benedict the XVI should outfit the Swiss Guards with some Stingers and Ma Deuces and post them atop the Colonnade.
This sounds like saber rattling to me.
I am just hoping Pope Benedict comes out and supports are continued presence in Iraq after this.
I see it more of a statement of intent, they may not have the ability to hit the White House or the Vatican right now, but when they do they will be their first targets.
I agree. Like the Islamofascists need an OK to strike against either of the targets.
Exactly. And on the internet.
Exactly, they have no military.
It would be like them deciding to attack a pre-school.
Don't be so sure that the Vatican is a soft target; for every condottiere you see in hose with a halberd, there are five behind the scenes with fine German submachine guns and the best training the Vatican can afford.
Even if this is just sabre rattling on Zarqawi's part, an attack on the Vatican is still something to be mindful of. These terrorist networks are so decentralized that one group can decide to make an attempt without the cooperation or knowledge of Bin Laden or Zarqawi.
"It would be like them deciding to attack a pre-school."
OPINION: The jihadis have clearly demonstrated that they do not value life. A child or an adult -- holding them hostage, killing them -- it's just another day in the life of jihad.
Take Beslan the school children who were murdered there; the bus bombings in Israel; the train bombing in Madrid --- jihad.
"The Vatican is one soft target."
There have been 3 well protected persons, the Swiss guard for the Pope, the SS for our President, and the Morman crew for Howard Hughes!
