Boy describes sexual assault by mentor (Big Brother-Big sister pedophile)

Comments detailed in grand jury transcripts in former Las Vegas medical resident's case

Newly released court documents detail the case against a Las Vegas pediatric resident accused of sexually assaulting a 10-year-old boy he met through Big Brothers Big Sisters.

David Glenn Evans, 32, was indicted by a grand jury earlier this month on 50 felonies.

During the grand jury proceedings that led to the indictment, the victim testified that a counselor referred him to Big Brothers Big Sisters because he was having trouble with his parents' divorce.

"I was seeing a counselor and they said it would be a good thing to get me in a program called Big Brothers Big Sisters," the child testified. "So then I did. So my mom got me into Big Brothers Big Sisters. So then, one day we went there and met Mr. David Evans, and so then he got me my birthday present, which is (a trip to) Shark Reef (at Mandalay Bay) and this remote-control car."

The child said Evans eventually took him camping in California. While getting ready to go swimming, he noticed Evans was taking photos of him.

"I was getting undressed to go swimming and he picked his camera up and I saw a flash," the child said. "I said, `Did you just take a picture of me?' And he's like, `Yeah.' "

Subsequently, the child spent several nights at Evans' house, and during those encounters, he said he was photographed during acts that included oral sex and anal intercourse.

"Now, when you would go and spend the night at Mr. Evans' house, where would you sleep?" Clark County prosecutor Thomas Moreo asked the boy.

"On the bed next to him," the child replied.

"What did you think of that?" Moreo asked.

"I really didn't like it," the child said.

The boy confirmed that he was photographed in numerous sexually explicit photos found on Evans' computer.

"He told me one time not to tell my mom," the child said.

"I didn't like it," the child said.

"Why did you allow him to do it?" the prosecutor asked.

"Because I was scared," he replied.

Authorities announced the arrest of Evans late last year on sexual assault and child pornography charges after Evans' roommate found child pornography on Evans' computer.

Las Vegas police Detective Michael Castaneda told the grand jury that an inspection of Evans' computer revealed a large cache of photos of Evans with the 10-year-old and also with another boy. The second boy is pictured naked and masturbating during a camping trip Evans took with the child in California, as well.

California authorities have filed similar charges against Evans there.

Evans' attorney, Gabriel Grasso, declined comment.

Evans was a resident in the pediatric medicine program at the University of Nevada School of Medicine and had been performing his residency for six months at Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center and at University Medical Center.

There is no evidence that he committed crimes against children in his capacity as a doctor at those hospitals.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Nevada is an award-winning charity that pairs adults with children in need of guidance. The agency has about 500 different mentorships in the Las Vegas Valley.

In a statement issued shortly after Evans' arrest, the organization expressed disappointment and sadness about the allegations against Evans.

"We are shocked and deeply saddened by the news that he has been identified in connection with allegations of child pornography and sexual assault," the organization said.

"Big Brothers Big Sisters has zero tolerance for abuse and we will continue to refine our practices to ensure the safety of all the children we serve."

The Big Brothers Big Sisters Program has become a magnet for perverts. In my opinion, they are more concerned with being politically correct than serving the children the program was originally designed to help. Since the program actively recruits homosexuals to be mentors, and it is the policy of the organization to pair same sex mentors with the children being mentored, it is not surprising that children are becoming molestation victims. Although homosexuals make up only 1-3% of the population, they are way over represented in the population of molesters, committing approximately 1/3 of the molestations. The organization says that they have "zero" tolerance for sexual abuse, but the question is, what will they do differently in the future?

Great.

This is sad...a close friend of mine has been heavily involved in BB/BS locally for a lot of years. All of his kids turned out well. It's a shame that many of these good organizations and those involved in them are being ruined by a few of these (expletives deleted).

Of course, this wouldn't be a problem if pediatricians were allowed to marry....

More depravity. Organizations such as this and others, along with the ACLU enablers, willingly - and gladly - sacrifice our children to the ravages of homosexuals.

It is sheer lunacy that we allow this out of fear of being labled a homophobe! Nuts to that!

Wanna bet? Why did he choose pediatric medicine in the first place?

This pervert should be put away for life. However, I am sure he will not be.

This may sound harsh, but that boy's parents should have provided him with a stable, loving, two-parent home and this would probably not have happened. I am not blaming the parents, only the pervert did this, however, the child wound have never needed an organization like BBBS if it weren't for the parents. Perverts prey on children who come from broken homes, unstable homes, etc....

"homophobe"

Is that fear of sameness? Conformity?

Oh, sorry, that's right; it's fear of humans.... ;-)

First, I've been involved in the efforts of the Boy Scouts to defend their constitutional rights (so said the US Supreme Court) against continuing ACLU attempts to push them to accept homosexual adult leaders. So I agree with the condemnation of Big Brothers / Big Sisters for allowing homosexual men and women to be adult leaders.

The puzzling aspect of this article is it calls this pervert "Mr." rather than "Dr." If he is in a residency program, he is already a doctor. He should be unfrocked as a doctor, but there hasn't been time for that to occur as yet.

And the idea that this occurred "outside his activities as a doctor" is total bullsh*t. Someone who is a "baby-raper" as the cons say, should have no contact with any patients, most especially children.

He probably figured not only is he more likely to get in trouble as a "doctor" (gives new meaning to the phrase, "playing doctor"), but that he'd get more pleasure time thru a sucker organization like this.

Think about it - 10-min feel-ups in the doc's office, vs a whole vacation weekend as a "big brother"?

I really don't understand how a grown man can have anal sex with a ten year old boy and the boy has no physical signs for other adults to pick up on. I mean, there is a lot of pain and trauma involved in inserting even an average sized adult penis into the small rectum of a ten year old.

Am I behind the times and there are new and improved methods of this type of rape that makes the process more palatable for the one being raped? I, personally, don't think at age ten I would have been able to hide such a trauma.

I've had clinical rectal exams as an adult and walked funny for three days.

The Pro-Criminal lobby will probably seek protection for this guy in prison.

They will probably ask that he be housed separately.

We conservatives and republicans should fight harder against this powerful, leftist, pro-criminal, godless Lobby. It is an ideology of freedom with no responsibility and void of truth. A space filled with chaos, non-truth, lies.

Just look and see the state in which it left Russia.

Now those Russian, remorse-less and morally relativistic thugs are attacking me with Internet scams. They seek to steal my identity.

In fact, there is a Pro-Criminal Lobby.

And you should not have cordial conversation with your liberal friends on this subject matter. Victims of crime are often twice victims.

Big Brothers Allow Gay Mentors

Local Board Members Seem Not to Know

By Robert Kumpel

Big Brothers Big Sisters of America announced in July that they had changed their policy and would allow homosexuals to mentor children of the same gender: "Volunteer Big Brothers, Big Sisters, and Board Members are not excluded on the basis of race, color, religion, national origin, gender, marital status, sexual orientation, veteran status, or disability."

Noreen Shanfelter, Big Brothers' national media spokesperson in Philadelphia, referred me to a press release that attempts to convince readers that there has been no change in policy: "For the past 25 years, Big Brothers Big Sisters of America has followed a non-discrimination policy that prohibits exclusion of potential volunteers, staff, youth or parents on the basis of race, color, religion, national original, gender, marital status, sexual orientation, veteran status or disability. Our volunteer selection policy is to honor the preference of the parents or guardians who bring their children to us for services. Parents approve the proposed match."

If sexual orientation has never been a factor in selecting mentors, why did they need to make a new statement?

Paul Palmer, a former general manager at KFMB radio, has been the executive director of San Diego's Big Brothers affiliate for two years. "I don't know why they keep digging that story up. Nothing has changed. We don't discriminate. The parent has full disclosure and it is up to them to determine whether a gay or lesbian mentor is acceptable to them. There really hasn't been any change. Locally, that's always been the policy. During the interview process, we learn that information, but we don't discriminate, and there are lesbian and gay big brothers and big sisters. We do disclose it to the parents, in case there is an issue with it."

When asked how they reconcile the policy of males forbidden to mentor girls, yet allowing homosexual males to mentor young teenagers who they might be attracted to, Palmer says the policy is not based on sexual attraction. "It's really because of brothers and sisters. The two organizations merged and the basic premise was that a male would be able to bond with an adult male mainly because of our kids come from single-parent families where there wouldn't be a male in that boys' life, and it's somewhat similar for the girls. It's really a same-sex role modeling. It's completely different from the issue regarding sexual attraction. In fact, you can take a situation where you may have a gay big brother who certainly cares about the welfare of the child and could be a really good role model. It's up to the parent to determine if that's acceptable or not. It's really a pretty simple policy."

Palmer says that homosexuals can be acceptable role models for young boys, and that there is no link between homosexuality and child molestation. "The premise that you're reading to me is that the homosexual or gay role model would be more likely to molest a child, which we all know isn't true. As you know, most of the people who molest children are not gay at all."

The danger of the new latitude in allowing homosexual mentors became evident in September when Big Brothers mentor Scott Wagner of Ohio was charged raping his 12-year-old charge in Newark Ohio, was investigated for inappropriate behavior with six other boys, and later indicted on 73 child child-sex related charges by a grand jury.

The clerical scandals seem to have had no impact on Big Brothers' local policy. Palmer: "The screening process that we go through is so extensive that we are obviously looking for zero issues. We have an FBI check, a DMV check, fingerprinting, a series of extensive interviews. It usually takes about four to six weeks for someone to go through the screening process. In San Diego, our case workers have had great sensitivity to making sure that these kids are safe."

The disparate demand for big brothers vs. big sisters suggests that Big Brothers may be lowering its standards for male mentors. "We have plenty of big sisters for the girls in the program, but we have about 500 boys on the waiting list, waiting for big brothers," said Palmer, "I'm trying to find more big brothers to match with the little brothers who are waiting. There probably are more boys who are what we consider 'at-risk.'"

Andrew Ratner has been the president of Big Brothers and Sisters of San Diego for almost two years. Like Palmer, Ratner holds the party line about the policy. "There has really been no change in policy. We don't discriminate based on someone's sexual orientation. We leave it up to the parent."

When asked if the question of sexual orientation comes up when screening mentor candidates, Ratner said yes. "It's one of the questions we ask. There's a whole slew of questions. The reason we match boys with men has nothing to do with the worry of any kind of sexual misconduct. It's predicated on the fact that these boys don't have any male role models in their life."

Ratner also says that the clerical scandals have not raised any concern at Big Brothers. "Because of the scandals, we haven't turned up the heat. We try to be as extremely thorough as we can."

Bruce Shepherd has been a member of San Diego's Big Brothers board of directors for 13 years and knew nothing about a change in policy and sounded surprised when it was described to him. "I can't imagine the policy says that, but I don't want to react to the policy unless I've had a chance to read it and look at it. I'm headed out of town, and I won't be able to talk about it until next week."

Bill Fanning was a member of San Diego's board of directors for eight years and has been on the advisory board for a little more than a year. He had no knowledge of the change "I'd have to read it first before I could comment on something like that."

Matthew Pavich has been an advisory board member of San Diego Big Brothers for two years. When asked about the change, Harrison was silent for several seconds and sighed. "I don't know if I'm supposed to respond to anything regarding this. You should talk to the current board and the current general manager of the organization."

Philip Harrison is a new member of the local advisory board. When asked about the change, he said he had never heard of it. After reading it to him, he was reluctant to comment. "I don't really have any input at all in terms of speaking for the board. I'd have to refer you to the local president of the organization. I don't have any personal comment."

After the new policy was issued, one affiliate in Owensboro Kentucky resigned from Big Brothers and changed its name to "Quest for Kids." A staff member from Quest for Kids who spoke to me on condition of anonymity, said that their break with Big Brothers has freed them to raise their standards and avoid the restrictions they would have as a secular organization. "We want to be a Christian organization focusing on, hopefully, showing Jesus to kids in our community and matching Christian mentors with children. We do not just want to be the controversial center of the Big Brothers scandal. It's not our mission to just stand up on that issue."

Separating from Big Brothers seems to have increased Quest for Kids' support. "We've been really blessed since we made the break from Christian support in our community, volunteers and people offering services and money. There are more volunteers now than ever before. What I would like to see from this whole thing as a revival among Christians to pour their lives into their children. If Christian agencies started up all over the country and took over the mentorship program nationally as opposed to delegating it to a secular organization with the hope of them acting in a Christian way -- that would be more ideal."

Absolutely. Celibacy is something for which doctors, especially young ones, are well-known.

It's my understanding that the actions are not damaging to the offended. Only in certain cases. What I mean is, I once saw a documentary on CNN Special Report of Romanian Pedophiles asking the molested boys to perform the act on them, the grown adult. Since, as you said, it seems impossible the other way.

Apparently, the pedophiles get pleasure that way.

So they did this rather recently? How stupid.

The truth is this: most pedophile victims are boys. Most pedophiles are men.

Guess what that means?

Most pedophiles are fags.

Oh, but we hate to admit that!
