What steps should Western border agencies take to defend their homelands from harm by Islamists?
In the case of non-citizens, the answer is simple: Don't let Islamists in. Exclude not just potential terrorists but also anyone who supports the totalitarian goals of radical Islam. Just as civilized countries did not welcome fascists in the early 1940s (or communists a decade later), they need not welcome Islamists today.
But what about one's own citizens who cross the border? They could be leaving to fight for the Taliban or returning from a course on terrorism techniques. Or perhaps they studied with enemies of the West who incited them to sabotage or sedition. Clearly, the authorities should take steps to find out more about their activities, especially given the dangerous jihadi culture already in place in many Western countries, including Canada.

The countries run by Islamic theocracies have the worst record for religious tolerance (or human rights for that matter) on the planet; in view of this I find your pious statements about religious persecution a little ironic.
I would like to see the islamic peoples abandon the ancient and more barbaric precepts of their religion that have no place in a civilized world. I would rejoice if they would throw aside theocratic rule and embrace democracy, complete with representative elections. I do and will continue to condemn the silence from the islamic world over the atrocities committed in the name of Islam. This, however, is a far cry from calling for the slaughter of muslims.

It reminds me of my satirical analysis of Randall Jarrell's Death of the Ball Turret Gunner, where I wrote that the first letters of each line spelled "FASIW", which represented the sounds of the cannons on the fighter planes attacking the bomber...and some people (including the teacher) bought it!

Not just restricted to West Papua...Papua New Guinea's Islamic population is growing, too.
I had a friend who was there during WWII (originally at Port Moresby, but spent much of the war out "with the people"--I imagine he was also an observer to watch for Japanese attacks coming from Rabaul or over the ridge). He said the people were some of the nicest he met throughout his time in the Pacific...and his photos sure showed the beauty of it, even if they were black and white.

Oh yes..a "need" for "drastic" action. Give me a break...more CDC nonsense (or bad reporting), while the CDC hide the fact that half of sexually active American women are infected with HPV, which results in thousands of cervical cancer deaths each year--and they refuse to publicize that condoms don't prevent HPV transmission (though they admit it on their website, at least).
Maybe it would be nice to publicize the extra risks from kreteks, but to ban them...sheesh.
So...is it good news that Indonesians are smoking so much? If 45 percent are under 20, does that mean lots are quitting as they age?
