What steps should Western border agencies take to defend their homelands from harm by Islamists?
In the case of non-citizens, the answer is simple: Don't let Islamists in. Exclude not just potential terrorists but also anyone who supports the totalitarian goals of radical Islam. Just as civilized countries did not welcome fascists in the early 1940s (or communists a decade later), they need not welcome Islamists today.
But what about one's own citizens who cross the border? They could be leaving to fight for the Taliban or returning from a course on terrorism techniques. Or perhaps they studied with enemies of the West who incited them to sabotage or sedition. Clearly, the authorities should take steps to find out more about their activities, especially given the dangerous jihadi culture already in place in many Western countries, including Canada.

I agree with the Lamb quote, but caution is paramount in how it is used. Note that your later comments were applied to Catholics within 50 years of our founding. Even with Little Italy and the word of The Pope meaning more than The President, how many would consider Catholics a huge danger to America?
After all, with that type of behaviour we might be mistaken for a free country, instead of a regime where the police are not answerable to the citizenry. Can't let that happen--the Big Government types might find themselves without their power fix.

Well, gee, y'know....ever since the leader of CAIR stated unequivocally and without repentence or retraction that the goal of Islam in America was not to coexist with other religions, but to dominate them, eliminate them and become preeminent...I have had no problem with giving Satan's own Phony Religion Of Peace "special treatment". In fact, I do not think Islam has yet been treated "special" enough in these United States. Notice I specifically, scrupulously, do NOT say "every muslim practitioner" - but instead aim my indictment at Islam itself, and my identifying remarks at its vocal leadership.
See - the huge problem is that most of us here in America do not speak, read, or write Arabic, whereas all of them do one or more of the above. Sure Catholics used to speak only Latin - in the Liturgy at Mass. But there were lots of Latin speaking non-Catholics around to interpret, reassuring us that there were no nefarious plots afoot to undermine the Constitution of the U.S.
Taking advantage of that fact, these slimy paedophile prophet proteges and moon-god sycophants talk out of more sides of their mouths than I knew a human being could have! They say one thing in public squares when pleading for tolerance, community values, blah-blah-blah another when addressing the news media, yet another thing within the shelter of their own armories - errr I mean mosques, and still another at religious leadership "symposiums" like the one held last year in Texas.
They preach tolerance out of whichever side of their mouths they must for long enough to win sympathy, and engender alliances with the deluded, dazed and confused - like you - but once they have the protection sufficient to allow their numbers to grow unchecked,twelve hundred years of history has shown an unending and unchanging pattern of their leaders rallying them around the flag of Islam and casting aside these relationships of convenience in favor of open, brutal, and merciless all-out war.
It's not okay with me for them to, on the one hand, protest being made the victims of stereotyping, class distinctions and religious hatred, while on the other hand they do precisely all of the above to us while living comfortably among us. It is not okay with me for their leaders to sit in their mosques and home groups and by their arrogant and hateful preaching, draw targets on my back, and that of my friend or neighbor, so whether you mind or not, I will continue to support, and voice discrimination like this myself. It very well may save your life some day.
Remember two things: 1)the Nazi's were once a small disenfranchised minority party of malcontent crackpots, that most people either tolerated indulgently, or dismissed altogether as posing any real threat to civilised society in Germany, and 2) today's Islamist movement (though muhammadism predates Nazi Socialism) owes much of its strength, vitriol, and organisational facility to alliances forged directly with Adolf Hitler (read about the muslim Nazi hussar regiment if you are not educated about those ties), and even a few months ago, Arabic language copies of Mein Kampf were found in PLO (Islamist terrorists) hands in the middle east.
If you think that represents a unique or isolated incident or point of view among the Islamists, then it is truly time to pull your head out...of the sand. The Islamists hate all Jews, period. I love the Jews and support Israel, period. Therefore the Islamists will hate and want to kill me and all of mine, and I will kill them to prevent that!

It doesn't take so much to be condemned by Islamists. I am not Muslim, so I am likewise condemned.
That being said, do you know of any *true* Christians who do NOT want to spread Christianity to everyone? It's *methods* that are the problem, not the goal.
I don't want to weaken our Constitution, which is what I see as the strongest defense against our country being taken over by any group, whether they work internally or externally. You point out that the Nazis worked their way up from a minority. That's exactly the threat--we must protect our Constitution and not stop our vigilance. The Constitution is designed to protect minorities' rights, while at the same time protecting against a minority or majority from grabbing control.
Come on now. You left out American Indians...how can you be so insensitive? Their spokesman, Ward Churchill, wants an apology. ;-)
I wouldn't use muslims in the military as a talking point. Not with the islamic slime who fragged his officers so recently making the news with his conviction. And it's about time Jews stopped tolerating people who would gladly see them dead.
