I don't care much for Specter's politics, but I think he's posturing (speaking to both Repubs and dems), trying to find a compromise solution that will prevent the necessity for a vote on eliminating the filibuster. The Repubs (RINO'S) trying to forge a compromise are Specter, McCain, Collins, Snowe, and Hagel.
Are you that optimistic or that naive?
Specter is out for Specter and his worldview and his worldview doesn't match ours and he couldn't care less about the judges we want on the bench. He will do what he can to obstruct.
If I'm not mistaken, the gov appoints someone to fill the term until the next election. With reps, a special election is held, but not senators. This goes back to the fact that the STATE was represented by senators and the PEOPLE were represented by the representatives. We have no say in the replacement senator.
No, I'm not optimistic, and I'm also not naive, I'm only giving you my small opinion of what I think is going on inside Specter's office. Like I said in the post, I don't care for his politics, which obviously means I don't trust him, especially as Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee. I support the Constitutional option, and I also hope the dems will cave in the end, but I'm not holding my breath.
I think you should ping ALL THE PEOPLE who argued with you about Specter. I want to hear from them.
It's Bush's fault...........Literally.
Wouldn't it be easier to ping "ALL", except you and a few others? LOL
It would be interesting to see though. I think that I'll put a link on the PA page.
I apologize for my misjudging your comment.
I am just a bit fast on the trigger finger with anyone who is still willing to give him any benefit of the doubt. He deserves no quarter, but the GOP leadership lacks what it takes to resolve this and it's frustrating.
"Specter can redeem himself for Bork by supporting this."
No redeeming necessary. Bork was the opportunist at the heart of Nixon's "Saturday Night Massacre" firings of Archibald Cox and Eliot Richardson, and thus became involved in the coverup of the Watergate crimes.
He was a bad nominee, a silly looking man and corrupt. Specter stood with an overwhelming majority of Americans in opposing Bork.
Ed "The Big Deal" Rendell has to be bored out of his mind in that backwater, Harrisburg. He's a big-city, out on the town kinda guy and you can walk across Harrisburg in 15 minutes and meet nobody he wants to hang out with.
Rendell will resign and name himself Senator to replace Specter.
"The World's Greatest Deliberative Body"
What a joke! You have an entire democrat body who marches in lockstep whose open can change on a dime when ordered by their leadership, and a few pseudo intellectuals like Spector, McCain, Chaffee et al who just like to be ornery. Yeah, that's deliberative!
"whose open can change "
OOPS!! Make that opinion....speaking of pseudo intellectuals, maybe a proofreading class is in order!!
This morning, Senator Arlen Specter announced on Michael Smerconish's Philadelphia radio show (1210AM WPHT) that he will oppose a GOP plan to prevent Senate Democrats from filibustering President Bush's high court nominees.
I think he as seen it from you before, "ROY" ;-)
AH, Goddess! I am glad you are not as mean-spirited as Badray! ;-)
Hmm...Interesting theory. He has also mentioned that he has Presidential aspirations. History says that Guv's are more likely to be elected Prez than Senators....
LOL......Badray is a pussycat next to me!
I'd show him mean spirited--squared, cubed......
Throw the bum out on his ear!
From what I can see, Specter's apologists from the PA page are not here yet to tell you how right you were. I got so sick of them back during the campaign that I stopped checking out the page.
