From what I have learned since, I am glad that Bork was not approved, but I am sure that Specter didn't 'bork' Bork because he thought that he was doing the right thing by us. He took him down for his pro life views.
And what does his 'silly looks' have to do with judicial qualifications? You're better than that and only weakened your argument by mentioning it.
Indeed. Stripping him of the committee chairmanship would make him much more likely to vote with the party leadership.
I live in Toomey's district, and it was frustrating to see Bush, Cheney, and Santorum go around campaigning for Specter. What a bad move.
At least they are not here proclaiming that we need him. If they are too embarrassed to show up, I understand.
ping
Two things:
1. As I read Specter's comments about "party loyalty", they could just as easily be addressed to the Democrat minority. Like you, there's nothing in them that leads me to conclude that he's a "no" vote.
2. If Frist allowed Specter to accede to the Judiciary chairmanship without first extracting a promise that he would support the "nuclear option", he doesn't deserve to be Majority Leader.
Agreed.
The difficulty with Spectre is whether he will acknowledge he is in the debt of Bush, Santorum, the constituents full of doubt that tepidly supported him over Toomey because of this very issue, and the Republicans that staked their reputations on his Chairmanship. Will he honor that debt, or betray it?
No one knows for certain.
The only thing I'll give Spectre is that he hasn't yet said or done anything in the manner of McCain to suggest he won't do the right thing. He has floated an idiotic porposal Byrd that doesn't stand a chance in hell of being passed if we have anything to say of it, but that I expect from Spectre. Compromise to point of absurdity. But will we vote no? That I don't know.
Your sarcasm falls on deaf ears. First only God and GWB know why the President endorsed Specter in Pennsylvania to begin with, Second we need a strong suppoter of the GOP in leadership positions. Specter is a RINO. Thirdly stripping him of the Chair would have sent a message to the rest of the RINO's/
No problem, and I agree with everything you said.
Good. Now if we can convince a few million more.
