KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Tennessee offensive tackle Michael Munoz decided to quit football after he was not chosen in the NFL draft over the weekend, his father, NFL Hall of Famer Anthony Munoz said Monday.
The All-American started 46 games in his career despite injuries, including a torn rotator cuff that ended his senior year before the Southeastern Conference championship game in December.

Geeez, I'm getting old.
I went to college with this guy's dad (Anthony Munoz). Now his son has graduated college... ugh.
What a team that was, though... Munoz, Brad Budde, Ronnie Lott, Riki (Gray) Ellison, Dennis Smith, Charles White, Paul McDonald, Marcus Allen, Keith Van Horne, Jeff Fisher, Chip Banks, Hoby Brenner, Calvin Sweeney, Pat Howell... the list goes on... I think there were a total of 37 players from that team that went on to play NFL football
Boy was I wrong. Al Clark.
Read the article. He doesn't sound all that upset about it. He graduated last year and is now pursuing a Master in Public Administration. Wonder if he's into politics. Stereotyping big dumb jocks will get you nowwhere.
Boston College wide reciever Ivan Boyd was one of the best in school history. After the 1983 Notre Dame game (the field goal game), Boyd blew out his knee and never played again. He had stayed a fifth year at BC to get his Masters in Finance and is now a VP at a major Boston Bank. Sometimes taking your free education seriously is a good career move.
Surprised at that considering teams took a chance with Andrew Walter of ASU and Peterson of Oregon who both suck.
Not to mention that Matt Cassell got drafted, the second string QB from USC, who threw a total of 35 passes his entire college career. Of course, he was second string to Carson Palmer and Matt Leinart - both Heisman Trophy winners.
Anthony Munoz may have been the best offensive lineman ever to play the game -- and it sounds like his son has a good head on his shoulders and a great attitude about sports.
If Matt Cassell was drafted, I'm surprised Texas' Chance Mock (who had at least some starting experience) wasn't...
After all the garbage from some of these athletes, I thank you much for a happy ending.
He ... graduated early from Tennessee with a bachelor's degree in political science and started working on a master's in public administration last season. He was awarded the Draddy Trophy as the nation's top scholar-athlete in December and received $25,000 in scholarship money.
I loved watching him play--this is heartwarming.
who gives a darn? I certainly don't. You think this Munoz kid would care if I didn't get a job in the IT market?

Hey, if my Dad was a multi-millionaire celebrity with a ton of contacts, I would have majored in Public Admin myself. Hell, he could end up in the White House, given the current occupant.
The Cleveland Browns drafted a great linebacker named Trey Bauer back in the late 1980s -- I think he played on a couple of their national championship teams. He could have had a great career in the NFL, but he walked away from the game during his first training camp and decided to go to business school instead.
The Munoz family is greatly respected here in Cincinnati for many things that have nothing to do with football. As others have noted, the father was President Bush's campaign manager for SW Ohio (where I saw them both last Halloween at a rally here). The son went to an excellent, demanding Catholic High School (Moeller) and did well in the classroom at college. Next time educate yourself about somebody before you blast them with an inappropriate mindless stereotypical comment -- otherwise, people might think you are living representation of the symbol of the Democratic Party.
Read the article -- he's actually working on his master's degree.
Well said.
Football is not the most important thing in the world to everybody.
