"Man hungers for food, and God sends the sun and rain upon the golden field of grain. The grain is made into flour, and flour into bread, and man's physical hunger is satisfied. Man hungers for love; God ignites the fire of affection in another heart, and two hearts are made complete in the bonds of holy matrimony. Man hungers for knowledge, and God raises up institutions of learning, calls men to be instructors and puts it into the hearts of the rich to endow them; men are satisfied in their thirst for knowledge. Man hungers for fellowship; God allows him to build cities where men can share their industry, their knowledge and skills. The Source of Spiritual Fullness
"Achieving spiritual fullness is in many ways parallel to satisfying physical thirst. Filling our spiritual emptiness is as essential to spiritual well-being as filling our physical emptiness is to our physical well-being. The source from which we draw our physical sustenance determines the quality of that sustenance. Water from a putrid source will fill our bodies and cause disease. Our bodies can be no stronger than what we put into them. So it is with matters of the spirit. Lives that are filled with impure thoughts and ungodly deeds are weakened and blinded to the vision of what could otherwise be. Jesus said that 'the pure in heart see God' (Cf. Matthew 5:8). It is only by coming to Jesus who is the Water of Life and drinking freely of what He teaches that we can experience life to the fullest. He said, 'I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full' (John 10:10, NIV). Only by staying close to the source can we hope to maintain spiritual fullness. Traveling through the desert with a canteen allows me to sustain my life, but not to enjoy it to the fullest. Only by staying close to the Living Spring can I completely satisfy my thirst" (John McRay).

Prayer
Lord, we thank You for meeting our spiritual hunger. Forgive us for the times that we try to satisfy our spiritual longings with entertainment, our professions, our friends or our good works. Help us to recommit ourselves to seeking You and to feeding our souls with Your Word. We pray in Jesus' name. Amen.
