April 22, 2005
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- St. Petersburg police officers handcuffed an unruly 5-year-old girl after she acted up in her kindergarten class.

Actually it probably started On May 17, 1954, it just didn't get bad all at once. The methods used to force integration in schools in places where neighborhoods were not integrated, started the decline of the schools. Particularly for the poorer areas, the parents were no longer involved in the schools, they were too far away from the home and workplaces of the parents. Now that wouldn't have been so bad for the high schoolers, but for the elementary, especially the lower elementary, grades it's a disaster. Of course the "Great Society" had more than a little to do with it as well, as did, surprisingly, the Space Race. Why do I say that? Well the supposed falling behind of US students in science and math, was the excuse used for the early federal intervention in education.
Exactly.
They could have paddled her behind until she was too busy crying to hurt anybody. Or if they wanted to be politically correct they could have walked out of the room and left her alone until she settled down. Then they could suspended her from school until her parents pay for the damages the girl caused. If the parents want to sue let them. The brat's actions were caught on tape.
The present social welfare state embodies the biggest lie of all. That is the institution can adjust to each individual. When our public education system works, it was understood that the individual will submit to authority and adjust to the institution. But what was not so special about special education is that it promoted the idea that each child could have an individualized education plan. The social welfare state is about the political accommodation of the growing masses who refuse to take responsibility for submitting to authority and adjusting to our institutional systems. In the nanny state there is no one to kick a**, just of bunch of liberal caretakers looking for new ways to kiss a**.
I am not sure what people expect the police to do in this situation, in a real country effective systems would be in place where 5 year olds could be controlled without wasting the police's time. As Hillary said it takes a village to raise a village idiot. And when institutions have no teeth, everyone looks like a village idiot when confronted by a five year old who needs her a** kicked.
Or they could have called in someone with a tranquilizer gun, using a child size dose, of course. When people act like animals they should expect to be treated like an animal.
Yeah okay... Shux, let's do it your way...
Hey Gomer...
That little girl behaved like an animal.
Watch the videos.

I wouldn't send my dog to a public school.
5 Year olds should be home with their mother. When the state takes over raising children, conformity becomes the objective. This is the inevitable result.
I'm assuming you haven't seen the video. The girl was behaving poorly. If it was my child she would have been immediately spanked and disciplined. But, I'm assuming a teacher isn't allowed to discipline by physical means anymore. Thus, I think it was entirely reasonable to call the cops. If we hamstring teachers what alternatives have they left? The police were gentle, and I hope the girl was traumatized enough to learn to behave decently in public.
What a rotten child.
A society that cannot control a five year old except by police action is doomed.
Ahhh, FINALLY! I typically do not comment on these types of threads because this is my take on a great deal of the "problem" child situations.
I have seen and been part of the subduing of out of control small children. I knew for fact that 1 parent, if not both, had and continued to do various drugs. One was before crack, but her father did coke. No one wants to deal with this possibility. It is cigarette smoke or growth hormones injected into our food supply or air pollution or...fill in your pet cause, but it is NEVER about the drug culture & it's effect on the pregnant woman.
That is not correct. Perhaps you were thinking of Real Player.
Sean needs help and has not passed muster as a good American.
Sadly, some of my fellow Freepers seem to think this is the way to go:
I agree. There is nothing left for the schools to do to discipline kids that refuse to act human. If kids aren't taught to act like they have some sense at home then the schools should do it with their hands tied behind their backs??? I say Barbara Streisand
I see that the parents are suing. Trying to cash in on their payday from the looks of it. Well, I want to know when it's my turn to sue the parents of kids that cause chaos in my daughters class and take away her right to actually learn in school. Maybe the Anti-American Communist Liberties Union can help me out with that one.
One thing though you haven't considered is how are the teachers supposed to handle kids like this?
Teachers these days aren't allowed to touch these kids. In my days at school, a teacher could have at least rapped my knuckles with a ruler. Happened to me in kindergarten even. It gets your attention, and it stopped my behavior. A few other times along my path through junior high and high school my tail was reacquainted with the "board of education" (Most of them had holes drilled in them for more aerodynamics and speed. I can honestly say though that every time I got a swat I deserved it because I was acting like an idiot or not following rules. Every time it served as an effective behavior modification tool.
I wish they would bring it back. If my kids ever got swatted in school, my first question to them would be "Why was your behavior so bad they had to do that?" and #2 would be "You're not going to do that again are you?" ..probably my next question would be "I guess you really didn't want to go outside, talk to your friends on the phone, watch TV or play on the computer for the next few days right?"
That is the "something wrong" that I mentioned in my previous post or at least part of it. The other part is the deteriation of the family and society in general. Lets blame it on Spock, Dr. not Mr.
