Sex Offender Kills Self Over Neighborhood Signs

OCALA, Fla. — A convicted sex offender apparently committed suicide in despair over signs posted in his neighborhood calling him a child rapist.

Clovis Claxton (search), 38, was found dead by his father with one of the signs beside his body. It was less than a day after his release from a psychiatric hospital.

His mother blames Marion County (search) Commissioner Randy Harris (search) for her son's death. Harris proposed putting up flyers in the neighborhoods of sex offenders to alert neighbors.

I always wonder why their initial crimes aren't reported. Why do these stories only say "convicted sex offender" but never the actual offense that they did. I would like to know the total list of crimes that can get a person classified as a sex offender that is registered....

Nor does it say what kind of sex offender...the neighborhood called him a child rapist...but the article doesn't say what he was convicted of.

We did not have the success that these folks had.
