PETA believes it may have a powerful new ally: the pope.
The star-studded animal rights group whose high-profile spokespeople include Paul McCartney and Pamela Anderson is saying that Pope Benedict XVI is an animal-rights supporter and theyre hoping he will join their cause.
PETA wasted no time in firing off a letter to the pope yesterday, congratulating him and asking, Would you please encourage people to consider the suffering of animals by lending a supportive word to our efforts?
The letter cited comments made by the pope three years ago when he was Cardinal Ratzinger: Certainly, a sort of industrial use of creatures, so that geese are fed in such a way as to produce as large a liver as possible, or hens live so packed together that they become just caricatures of birds, this degrading of living creatures to a commodity seems to me in fact to contradict the relationship of mutuality that comes across in the Bible.
Were not expecting him to appear in one of our Id rather go naked than wear fur ads, a PETA spokesman told The Scoop, but hes got a history of speaking out about animal rights and now maybe Christians will understand and support our campaign against KFC.

PETA is way out in left field..
But, that doesn't mean animals shouldn't be treated humanely.
One has to separate the wheat from the chaff..
In yesterday's NY Post, there was a picture of (then) Cardinal Ratzinger and a German brewer raising glasses of beer. If the new pope likes his German beer, then he probably likes his German food too, which includes a lot of meat. The PETA people are smoking too much of the wacky tobbacky.
If I were the Pope, I would stay away from the whacko organization....far, far away.
A very keen observation.
If Pam truely cared about animals she would let those sweater cows roam free.
I am sure the PETA pukes are high up on the list of things that the Holy Father is concerned about. < /sarcasm>
I ate a chicken for lunch and I'm gonna eat a big slab of steer for dinner.
I think that Jesus ate fish, lamb, and even fed such meals to a whole lot of people. If the Pope is sharing anything with vegans, it's to get them to drop their pagan ideas of animals'position in creation. If our Pope is smart enough to avoid the popularity of Nazism during his youth he's probably wise enough to avoid other paganism in his old age.

Yup...being part German, I know meat is a big part of the German diet...including...gasp!!!! VEAL.
The PETA types would be hurling themselves over a cliff if it turned out the Holy Father liked his weiner schnitzel.
"Would you please encourage people to consider the suffering of animals by lending a supportive word to our efforts?"
What the hell does that mean? "Consider the suffering of animals?" I think everyone is considerate when it comes to the suffering of animals. The reality is that most animals are doing just fine, thank you. PETA is inventing pseudo, phantom activism in an ongoing attempt to attain relevance.
My Y'shua ate lamb every passover

Respect for animals and your enviroment goes without saying. Your average sportsman(or woman) is so much more in tune with the ways of the natural world and do not live in a distorted 'Bambie' cartoon like these weirdos.
These nut jobs have resorted to terrorism, arson, and violence. Your values are waaay out of whack when you have no problem harming humans in support of animal rights.
These PETA types really chap my butt.
LMAO@PETA, LOL, ROTFLMAO, LOL, LMAO, BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
They don't care a whit about relevance. Like all such groups, they are after the money.
See Luke 15:22-23
I love defenseless animals, especially in a good gravy.
I agree.
