OREGON CITY -- Students and parents will discuss a controversial cartoon later today at Oregon City High School. It appeared in the school's newspaper.
The student-drawn cartoon shows two men wearing Minutemen volunteer T-shirts... Depicting the recent volunteer border patrol enacted in Arizona. One cartoon says, "let's go get us some Mexicans." The other says, "remember, women and children are only worth two points."
Several students took the paper home and complained to their parents. A teacher advisor and two student editors approved the cartoon for the paper.
School administrators have apologized to the students saying "it was not meant to encourage racism or discrimination in any way. As a staff, we are working to correct and heal the damage that has occurred."
Ah, yes. The often wildly successful "you're an idiot, no offense meant" approach.
I personally take offense to that cartoon. Those little highschool ninnies haven't a clue. Let them have illegals trespassing across their backyard, pissing on their porches, or raping their mothers and see how fast they wise up. This isn't about race. This isn't about jobs. This is about obeying the law of the U.S. This is about the safety of the American citizen. This is about securing the borders.
If I read this right, they are actually apologizing to Mexicans, and not the people in Arizona who are actually the butt of this "joke".
Kind of, "We are sorry for offending Mexicans by depicting Arizonans in our comic strip as racist hicks."
WTF?
Sounds like a doctors clinic, not a school.
Protect all of our borders and coastlines from foreign invaders ~ NOW!
Be Ever Vigilant!
Stop the attacks on Patriotic Americans by the lunatic left!
Minutemen Patriots ~ Bump!
Did I see a gun in the cartoon? Expel the students for depicting a gun! Zero tolerance!
When we finally take out North Korea we should also save a few warheads for Oregon.
The absolutely incredible thing here is the cartoonists are being criticized for allegedly being rascist by publishing a cartoon which apparently encourages hunting of illegal aliens, when the cartoon was actually a sarcastic attack on the Minutemen. Go to the linked video and see what some of the parents and students who're interviewed say. They are so ignorant and uneducated that they don't even understand and appreciate a sarcastic cartoon that takes their side. PC thinking has gone so far in that school that obvious humor has to be explained literally to a bunch of morons.
Yes, one of five residents in Oregon moved here in the last five years. I recently attended a dinner party, with 18 people. Only 4 were Oregon born.
Unfortunately those that are slamming the Minutemen have a LOT of room to talk. THIS coming from a state that actually has a sign posted at the Oregon/California border that says "Please Don't Californicate Oregon"...GIMME a damn break. Pathetically hypocritical doesn't even BEGIN to touch the tip of that iceburg.
Your interpretation requires a lot of nuance, but a more obvious interpretation makes illegals the butt of the joke. Olde Media's meltdown probably makes it hazardous for jokers to assume that everyone shares a monolithic cultural perspective.
Hardly, they are belittling the minutemen. That is the way the instructor saw it too, else it would not have been published.
what the hell???
unless I am grossly misreading this, the people who should be apologized to are the Minutemen, as this cartoon implies that they are out to KILL Mexicans - an utterly contrary-to-fact assertion which at least borders on slander and defamation.
you are mistaken.
see post#12.
the content clearly is a slam against the Minutemen, implying they are slovenly rednecks out to kill some "mudpeople".
this is anti-Minutemen defamation, plain and simple, and undeniably so.
You can also argue that it looks like a redneck cartoon drawn by a redneck cartoonist with the approval of a redneck instructor to amuse slovenly rednecks. To heal the school we ought to send the cartoonist, the editor, and the instructor to a few weeks of Diversity Training.
