OK..here's what we know..Senate is in recess for the weekly party caucus luncheons. Supposed to resume at 2:15. on C-span 2.. The Foreign Relations committee is supposed to meet at 2:45 to vote on the Bolton nomination. Lugar has refused requests for a delay. Just before the Senate recessed, Reid objected to Frist's UC request for the Froeign Relations committee to meet today. Frist withdrew his request..
He lost them a long time ago, it is the inevitable byproduct of fence straddling, honorary membership in RINO Eunuchs of America.
Maggie--
Ethics? Voinovich is on Ethics?
Oh, the irony!
Well, we can rule out FR and Ethics..........LOL.
Because they belong to the same country club?
Dodd--Like father like son--Ditto Ted Kennedy.
Bush isn't and never will be a lame duck.
The reason they are voting this way is because they believe WE will vote for them because the Dems are so extreme. The only way to disillusion them of their opinion of US is to take them out in their primaries or on election day if need be.
We are the ones they don't respect.
Fox, meet henhouse.
I don't doubt that it was coordinated by the Ds, and probably with some RINO help, at least on the staff level, but the Rs should have been ready for this kind of nonsense. All I'm saying is that if the R. Senate and committee leadership can't prevent such machinations from succeeding then they might as well close up shop. I know that Senators pride themselves on their vaunted sagacity and independence, and I certainly don't know what's going on behind the scenes, but I would think this is a nomination for which all committee Rs should have been worked very thoroughly -- for Voinovich to claim he just isn't up to speed on the hearings and the nominee is a huge indictment of someone - Voinovich himself, certainly, but also R. leadership who should have had their votes confirmed ahead of time.....
YES!!! I was waiting for someone to say that.
I was just thinking about Specter. He has cover now, too.
Anything they can make up, he'll have to "investigate," you know?
They must have a what do you call it, not a think tank, but war room somewhere, working hard to make stuff up.
Yes. The electorate will pay attention to a SCOTUS nominee. Even I couldn't care less about ambassador to the UN.
I don't know what it is with the Ohio Republicans.
This is probably Voinovich's last term. He won re-election last year, winning all 88 counties. He has always rankled feathers in the conservative camp. This is probably one of the big ranklings however.
This is just another example that will be used here in 2006 for why changes need to be made in the Ohio Republican Party. The change being going from a liberal-to-moderate (RINO) leadership to a much more conservative leadership. Conservatives in this state have become fed up with Voinovich, DeWine, and Taft. Ken Blackwell, a true conservative running for governor of Ohio in 2006 has said that next year "will be a fight for the heart and soul of the Ohio Republican Party." (paraphrasing)
I feel sorry for the person handling the phones in Voinovich's office right now. It probably ain't pretty.
They do have a DEM warroom..
yeah?? YEAH???? that should have been done today , anything can happen between now and when they've manufactured a truckload of false charges["its the seriousness of the charge"] THEY'RE SLOW-WALKING THIS ON THE LONG WALK TO NOWHERE
I do not consider him a lame duck, but, believe me, THEY do think of him that way; all their thinking about now is 2006 and 2008, which, as far as they are concerned, doesn't not involve him.
No doubt, voinivich was "busy" at an ethics comittee meeting stabbing Delay in the back before he rushed off to do the same thing here.
Of course they hurt us, but my point is that Lugar was publically humiliated. His face is the one that will be shown and mocked. That is a special sign of disrespect he alone will bear and if I were Lugar, unfortunately I'm not, I would make Voinivich pay.
Agreed.
I sent him a check from Florida.
