"We know nothing really about her, but by God, Condi is our gal!" --- Anonymous Freeper
I've repeatedly asked here at FR for anyone to tell me *CONDI'S* stand on a number of issues ranging from economics to school prayer.
I have yet to receive one reply to my queries on where Miss Rice stands on a number of issues.
So can someone please tell me, especially you, Section 9, why I should be excited about a possible Condi Rice presidency run?
FYI: Miss R. in my opinion will prove to be an excellent Sec of State. But POTUS? Sorry, unlike a lot of Freepers my vote requires more than a cute smile or even worse, a fanatical appreciation of the Condi stare.
No wonder so many here can't seem to get behind Tom DeLay.
First, swheats is a black female. Second, she's not baiting. She is raising a valid issue. That's just the way it is.
She could change that "uncle tom" attitude, and besides, Cosby and conservative black FReepers have already shown that it's on its way out bigtime. I often look to black Americans for moral clarity these days.
Hillary will win the standard 90+% of the black vote, and the majority of the women's and other minorities' vote. Hillary will win all of the states won by Kerry.
Condi has never run for or held elective office. Only Hoover and Eisenhower have had that resume in the 20th century. Condi has not yet come under the same kind of scrutiny a Presidential candidate will experience. We have not heard her positions on social issues such as gay marriage, immigration, gun control, etc. Her mild pro-choice position was just one of many surprises that may come out. She has also never been married, which may or may not be a problem with the voters.
Heh! Well to be fair, I'm not sure what she did there. If you come across detailed material about her provostship, please let me know.
Where have I heard this before?
Oh yeah, the last presidential election.
The ABB philosophy was soundly rejected. Dean was dumped for Kerry because they thought he was more electable, and anyone would have been better than Bush.
Until that shot of John in the blue clean room suit...
Just the shear joy of seeing the Dem's heads explode.
True, but we still have a lot of work to do.
She's a Republican black with Conservative values. In the modern black community (over 90% of whom voted for Al Gore remember) that clearly makes her a Tom.
Cosby and conservative black FReepers are part of that less than 10%, sadly they don't get to speak for their community, the social leaders that have the black community voting largely in lockstep are hardcore welfare state liberals that have shown they're extremely skilled at belittling and marginalizing people like Rice and Cosby.
I'm all for Sen. Allen.
PhiKapMom, hypothetically speaking, how would you've reacted to a Jesse Helms Presidential candidacy?
Mudboy...PhiKapMom's givin' me the business! -
God love her.
That's ridiculous. It most certainly is not.
Pealing away as little as an additional 1-2% of the black vote would cause major problems for the Democrats.
Tell me why it's "ridiculous".
I'm more worried about issues that impact job opportunities for all American citizens than I am about the so-called plantation mentality among blacks. (We've got it among whites now, and by the numbers, even worse.) If we remember that Americans of all races are willing to do any job for fair market wages, a lot of these problems will improve. I'm sick of hearing the idea that Americans won't do this or that.
That makes absolutely no sense.
You know, you're right. But a huge part of the problem with blacks and the GOP is that the GOP has totally failed in battling the image Dems have painted them with.
President G. W. Bush is the one I point to as to why I finally joined the GOP. When campaigning last year in Detroit, he simply asked for blacks to vote for him. That shows the seriousness in valuing the black community by simply respecting them enough to ask for their vote. Who did that before him?
The Dems say that the GOP is full of kluxers, to which the GOP had remained relatively quiet. Therefore, the win by default goes to the Dems.
Hi rdb. Seems Bush 43/44 has changed or raised the bar on who would be presidential material. Many didn't believe he could do it either.
Because you are saying two totally different things are the same. That is indeed ridiculous.
That peeling away helped deliver Ohio to Bush last year.
"Miss Rice said abortion should be "as rare a circumstance as possible," although without excessive government intervention. "We should not have the federal government in a position where it is forcing its views on one side or the other."
"So, for instance, I've tended to agree with those who do not favor federal funding for abortion, because I believe that those who hold a strong moral view on the other side should not be forced to fund it."
"Describing pro-lifers as "the other side" is one of the ways Miss Rice articulates her position as a "mildly pro-choice" Republican. She explained that she is "in effect kind of libertarian on this issue," adding: "I have been concerned about a government role. "
