A rite of passage for parents and teenagers turned deadly in Monmouth County.
Authorities say a 16-year-old learning to parallel park accidentally hit the accelerator and struck and killed her mother yesterday.
It happened on a quiet street in Marlboro.
Authorities say the girl had a learner's permit. The mother had set up cones and was outside the vehicle trying to guide her daughter.
The 44-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene.
Sign on to start my day with FR and have to read that 1st thing. That's a sad story. Wow.
Wonder what the kid was driving?
I cannot imagine the pain this poor girl will have to bear.
God bless her and her mother.
That poor girl....very sad!
In our State the parent has to be sitting in the car with the person with a permit. That poor child will probably never drive now.
Terribly tragic and sad for all involved.
Oh, what a heartbreaking story! This poor child... I'm having one of those, Why God?, moments. I know, I know, it's not for me to question....
Unfortunalty, this kid will never be the same.....could turn suicidal. Sad....
How horrible. Not only does she lose her Mother in such an awful way, but will be scarred the rest of her life because of it. There were two lives lost here.
I was just wondering because I know a lot of kids who are taught in the darn things, and they really are too much vehicle for a lot of kids to learn on. And how long had she had her premit before Mom started with the parallel parking? That was one of the last things I learned, not one of the first. And by then I'd learned to tell the brake from the accelerator.
How tragic....
New drivers sometimes get confused between the accelerator and the brake...
A few years ago I owned a retail business, a father and his daughter (leaners permit) pulled into a space in front of the building. The Dad thought she needed to move up in the space a couple of feet further and told her to do so.
When she finally stopped, she was 6 feet into our building through a brick wall and plate glass window. Fortunately noone was hurt other than a bruised ego. The girl went crying into the bathroom and no-one could coax her out. When the cop arrived, he tried coaxing her out and finally after an hour she appeared....
NeverGore :^)
Sad. My thoughts and prayers for the girl and her family.
Yeah, but will she be able to keep her drivers road test date, or won't the car be fixed by then?
And the law is very similar here in New Jersey. A licensed driver must be in the front seat of a vehicle along with the driver on a learner's permit.
What a very tragic story.
I think God made the laws of physics and the world. I don't think he had a deliberate hand in this tragedy.
But only God will be able to heal this poor girl, though it will take a long time. Maybe even a lifetime.
Even so,... I don't recall having anyone direct me from the outside of the vehicle. Anyway, it is a sad affair.
That's what I was thinking.
You are very inappropriate.
