Clearly, we disagree. I believe that most (not all) on both the left and the right care deeply about the future of our country. "Half-witted yokels" is exactly the kind of demonization I was objecting to, but then, so is 'hell-bound idol-worshippers.' I think that viewing those with whom we disagree as evil or somehow less-than-human seriously undermines our political process. If we view our opponents only through a lens of hatred, then communicating becomes impossible.
