Bill Clinton Bashes Man Behind 'Stop Hillary' Push
Mon Apr 11, 2005 04:35 PM ET

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Former President Bill Clinton took aim on Monday at a powerful political opponent of his wife Sen. Hillary Clinton, saying a surge of "Stop Hillary" efforts "can't stop her."

Clinton called one of the leaders of the movement, New York powerbroker Arthur Finkelstein "sad," after reports over the weekend that the Republican consultant married his gay lover.

"Either this guy believes his party is not serious and is totally Machiavellian in his position or there's some sort of self-loathing there," Clinton said. "I was more sad for him.

The New York Times reported on Saturday that Finkelstein, who has worked to elect strongly conservative Republican politicians, married his male partner in a civil ceremony in Massachusetts in December. The Republican Party opposes same-sex marriages.

Hillary Clinton, a Democrat from New York, faces re-election next year, and many believe she will make a run for the U.S. presidency in 2008.

Clinton added that he wasn't worried about the "Stop Hillary" campaign, which includes direct mail and Internet-based fund-raising efforts.

Republicans say Finkelstein, a long-time ally of New York's Republican Gov. George Pataki, is a key force behind the "Stop Her Now" anti-Clinton campaign and moving behind the scenes to help raise money. Finkelstein rarely speaks to the press.

The former president said his wife has worked hard as senator, especially in strongly Republican areas in upstate and western New York.

"She's been great and he can't stop her," Clinton said.

Clinton made his remarks at his New York office where he announced his foundation was donating $10 million toward treating children with AIDS in rural Africa.

His palling around with Bush I and II will do her in.
Of all the people that voted for Bill, how many will vote for Hillary after seeing Bill hanging with the Bushes?
All all the people that voted for Bush, how many will vote for Hillary after seeing her husband hang out with Bush?

The real issue is how many Bush-hating Lefties will vote for Hillary after seeing her hubby pal with the Bushes? That's the number being crushed, and Billy doesn't even know it.

"Don't be coy."

Actually I wasn't trying to be coy, I didn't even read your name on that one, just your comment. But I do recognize your name from somewhere else, and I was trying to figure out what thread that was from.

I realize your post was a sarcastic jab, as was mine. Point being, the man opens himself for critique on so many front, donating 10 million to fight the spread of AIDS seems like a strange one to pick for attack.

"This is the 21st century. And your interrogatory should end with one of these....?"

Nice taking out of context, and the question was "why do only Muslims go crazy" and my answer was it's not just them every group has crazies.

The man managed to put 10 mil together for a good cause, if I had done that damn straight I would have given myself a plug or two.

Unlike some of the others here, I see your point, ndt, BUT the thing is, a truly generous, gracious man doesn't plug his own generosity. People who do charity and then seek recognition for it, make me wrinkle my nose. "Do your alms in secret."

. . . donating 10 million to fight the spread of AIDS seems like a strange one to pick for attack.

I picked it because it was in the article.

You forgot who posted to you? Right. You're being coy or you need to switch to decaf.

"Did you know I'm given 10 million dollars to fight aids?"

"People who do charity and then seek recognition for it, make me wrinkle my nose. "Do your alms in secret.""

No argument there, but we are talking about politicians after all.

HILLARY CLINTON 'LED SECRET POLICE' (post from the past)

Posted on 07/16/2003 1:03:50 AM EDT by InvisibleChurch

HILLARY CLINTON 'LED SECRET POLICE'
BBC Saturday, October 3, 1998

President Clinton's friend and former adviser Dick Morris told the Grand Jury that Hillary Clinton was behind a "secret police operation" to intimidate women who may have been involved with the president.

Mr Morris's evidence to the Grand Jury was among the testimonies and transcripts in 4,600 pages of evidence from the Starr investigation which were made public on Friday. In his testimony, Mr Morris said: "I believe there's been a pattern of attacking people who are witnesses who in some way have implicated the president and I think that it's Nixonian and counterproductive," he said.

"I believe it stems more from Hillary Clinton than from Bill ," Mr Morris told the Grand Jury.

Asked why he felt Hillary Clinton was responsible, he said: "Because I know both of them and I don't think Bill does that sort of thing. Hillary often does.

"It's a pattern that I feel can consume the administration, just as it consumed Nixon's administration."

Mr Morris told the Grand Jury that the release of the Pentagon file on Linda Tripp and the release of documents relating to Kathleen Willey, a White House volunteer who accused the president of groping her, illustrated his point.

But in an interview before the latest testimony was released, Mr Morris is reported to have said that his statements were not based on first-hand information, but instead on his reading of affidavits and published accounts.

At least one Republican cautioned reading too much into the testimony of Mr Morris, who was forced to resign after his involvement with a prostitute surfaced.

When news of the Monica Lewinsky affair first broke, Hillary Clinton accused the Independent Counsel, Kenneth Starr, of being part of a right-wing conspiracy.

Recovering Ex-hippie: "I'm waiting for Karl Rove to set up an interview with Diane Sawyer and Monica on discussing Monica's feelings about Hillary running for the White House. ha."

Good strategy and possibly very entertaining.

Nothing Troll about it, everyone has gotten so caught up in the hating that they have lost the ability to give credit where credit is due.

You had my complete agreement up until your use of the word "hating." Me thinks you gave yourself away, friend.

I absolutely despise that corrupt, draft-dodging, dope-smoking, disbarred, pathologically lying, impeached rapist. But I have no problems with him giving money to help a charitable cause. And I don't hate him.

"I absolutely despise that ..... I don't hate him."

Would you prefer I use the word despise? I might recommend the investment in a good thesaurus.

The only definition not shared by both words is this one for despise.

"To regard as unworthy of one's interest or concern"

And that is most assuredly not the case around here. If you have a novel definition for either word, I would love to hear it.

Who needs a thesaurus? I have a Webster's 9th Collegiate Dicctionary. Listed synonyms for hate (v.) - detest, abhor, abominate, loathe.

No sign of despise anywhere. Hmmmm.

despise - to look down on with contempt or aversion

hate - to feel extreme enmity toward [a subject]

Sorry, Charlie, but they are different. Hate does seem to be a notch higher, a bit more all encompassing perhaps. So it would appear I used them correctly.

But that's really irrelevant. Your use of the word "hate" where it really was a bit out of place told me quite a bit about you.
