DRUDGE: Publisher Fight Over 'Hillary In The Raw'
Drudge Report ^ | SUN APRIL 10, 2005 | Matt Drudge

Posted on 04/10/2005 5:32:04 PM PDT by West Coast Conservative

**Exclusive**

A book battle has broken out on Publisher's Row over the ultimate Hillary-attack!

The project being billed as "Hillary in the Raw", like you've never seen her before, is set to drop in September by liberal Ed Klein, former NYT MAGAZINE editor, VANITY FAIR, PARADE contributor and author of multiple works on the Kennedys.

"The revelations in it should sink her candidacy," a source close to Klein warns the DRUDGE REPORT.

MORE

Last week, Clinton stalwart Ann Lewis fired off an email to supporters warning of the 'Swift Boat' tactics coming against the former first lady turned senator.

Now the coming sales pitch for ' THE TRUTH ABOUT HILLARY What She Knew, When She Knew It, and How Far She’ll Go to Become President' reads: 'Just as the swift boat veterans convinced millions of voters that John Kerry lacked the character to be president, Klein’s book will influence everyone who is sizing up the character of Hillary Clinton...

'Despite more than a dozen years in the national spotlight and more than a dozen unauthorized books about her, she has managed to keep many secrets from the public -- especially about her turbulent marriage and its impact on her career. There have been plenty of rumors about what Hillary and Bill Clinton did behind closed doors, but never a definitive book that exposes the truth. Bestselling author Edward Klein draws on rare access to inside sources to reveal what Hillary knew and when she knew it during her years as first lady. Klein’s book, embargoed until publication, will break news about the choices and calculations she has made over the years.'

MORE

A fight has developed over the book inside the giant publishing house PENGUIN, sources tell DRUDGE.

A publishing source attending the PENGUIN sales conference last week in Connecticut describes high emotions surrounding the coming publication of 'THE TRUTH ABOUT HILLARY.'

There has been a bitter and hostile reaction to the book among top PENGUIN editors -- editors who last year published John Kerry's official campaign book.

One top Hillary source claims the book is nothing more than "sex and trash" from a desperate author.

Argh, it's too bad you don't have any pictures,
but then if you did you would have died in a car
crash years ago.

There are a lot of dems that do not want Hillary running in 2008 after the 2004 disaster.

There are a lot of dems who do not want to lose again, particularly not as humilatingly and thoroughly badly as the Gore and Kerry candidacies were crushed. The chance that a Hillary try could go down in flames for a third Republican victory would be as bad for them as was the Reagan landslide victory that gave us two terms of Reagan and one of Bush I. A twelve-year absence of Democratic Party success at the executive level could get voters into the habit of thinking of them as losers.

And that was why Howard Dean very wisely stepped aside and let Kerry take the door that slammed shut in his face after Dean's third-place primary finish in Iowa. And so now Dean is DNC chairman; neat.

I kind of disagree with that. If this little tome does indeed rake some new muck, Hillary could just decide to "retire to care for Bill," lest her continued presence in the limelight reveal something even more sinister. I actually could see that happening.

I dont think so. Clinton has a thick hide and there is nothing that will scare her off. She has no shame and thinks she is invincible and absolutly correct.

There's nothing in this book to wipe her out.

Don't bet your egg money on that. I know a couple of his researchers.

Was it Ann Lewis about a year ago that suffered the loss of her daughter through domestic violence? Until then I thought she was gay like Barney.

I think also that there are even more dems that are sick and tired of the Clintons. They feel like we conservatives have for a very long time. "Just get the hell off the stage you money grubbing trailer trash so we can lysol all of Washington".

If I recall correctly .. back when Hellary ran for the Senate .. the NYT did a hit piece on her ..

Wish you could find just ONE to cite here. Nothing spoke volumes as much as the NY Slimes headline (when reporting on one of the debates between Congressman Lazio and Hillary) "Former First Lady Hillary Rodham Clinton" debates "Lazio".....

The moderate 'rats in the south don't want her --she's poison for their chances. The DUngeon rats don't want her, either. The soccer moms might like her, but the Party activists don't want her, so the only way she can get the nomination is by convincing them that only she can win in 2008 (you know, like Kerry).

Just so. They've also been most unhappy about the recent has-beens raiding favoured sources of campaign finance, many of whom have been long-term backers but who will not continue dumping their money into a losing proposition indefinately. Thatr's seen as a very real danger.

LibertarianInExile: it's intended to give her time to immunize herself
zarf: BING-GO
KJC1: we never know if it could be some reverse-tactic
proud American in Canada: Good point.
Wormwood: this may be an innoculation
Excuse_My_Bellicosity: What's published right now should have been enough to sink her
mlmr: Too early in the election cycle for this book to do major damage.
CyberAnt: she'll be protected like the rest of the disgusting democrats
mrsmith: I don't believe it. It'll be a puff-piece.
ChildOfThe60s: credit to A)her allies in the MSM & B)the severely limited attention span and memory of the average voter
IGOTMINE: This is an innoculation.
RoseofTexas: this book will NOT see the light in Sept.
Recovering_Democrat: could be trying to just "get the stink out" early
clintonh8r: Americans have a very short memory.
longshadow: this has all the hallmarks of a puff-piece masquarading as an "in-depth" expose
AlGone2001: There's nothing in this book to wipe her out.
Americanexpat: they always come out smelling like a rose
GretchenM: I am deeply suspicious of the timing
nickcarraway: This is going to help Hillary
ArmyBratproud: Drudge has been played
WorkingClassFilth: This is pre-emptive damage control
Mo1: This book smells IMO

Ed Klein said,  "My publisher is Sentinel, a Viking imprint. See, there'll be lots of books about her between now and 2008 when she's hot on the campaign trail, and that's why I'm coming out now. I've been at this well over a year, and my pub date's six months away. It's to be published in the fall and it's all fresh. Ninety percent of the information is absolutely new." -- from http://tinyurl.com/4jtdu

You guys may all be right anyway, but you sound so negative it makes me wonder if you even talk to/write to/email thousands of people YOURSELVES during election campaigns, or at least, have confidence when you do it. I hope I'm wrong, but that's my impression.

No, NO ONE will change a dyed-in-the-wool DemocRAT/dhimmi/DUhmmie/moonbat's mind.  BUT THE ELECTION IS WON WITH THE SWING VOTERS -- THAT's who we all have to get around the MSM to get to, AND EVERY EMAIL COUNTS.

Some of the guys above who "get it" include:
sine_nomine: The vets turned the tide and the bloggers helped a lot.
BenLurkin: Things were so much better when the MSM helped the democrat hacks re-write history on the fly.

ATTITUDE!  ATTITUDE!  ATTITUDE!  Pull that stomach in!  Stick that chest out!  Now that we have THE INTERNET it's a whole new ballgame, and YOU are the media now.  Get ready to RUMBLE!

Well, if he doesn't get into this, then I'll be disappointed...

Hillary, I ask you: Why did one of your best friends attempt to befriend Linda Tripp some 6 months before the Monica scandal was thrust upon an unsuspecting world?

What? You say you’ve never heard of this? Well, all the evidence has been right here on the best conservative site on the web, Free Republic.

Way back in November of 1998, the Knight Ridder wire ran a piece entitled Starr report indicates Hillary Clinton confidante befriended Tripp about 15 minutes before Newt announced he was stepping down as Speaker of the House, following the lackluster showing in the elections earlier that week. As a result, this story was buried and never again saw the light of day…except for right here.

The story, as other freepers and myself have uncovered goes something like this: Some of you may remember that Monica went to the White House in early July of 97 and threw a fit...Clinton said to her "You can't threaten the POTUS..."blah blah blah.... then he became all kissy kissy with her. According to the Starr Report, the topic of Linda Tripp knowing about their oral sessions came up for the first time. When Monica returned a few weeks later, Bill wanted to know more:

"Swifty Tactics" are EXACTLY what we should be doing leading up to 2008. What are "Swifty Tactics"?

1.) Speaking the Truth

2.) Backing it up with Documentation

3.) Using un-impeachable sources.

4.) Harness the power of the average American who really cares.

5.) Use grass-roots support to make our voices heard over the din of the MSM

6.) Be polite.

7.) Be reasonable

8.) Don't take the bait

9.) Don't get hysterical

10.) Don't get discouraged

We, as Americans, owe the Swift Boat Vets and POW's who spoke out, a debt. In my opinion, they singlehandely kept Kerry out of the White House. Try as they might, the Left could not effectively attack them. People understand the ring of truth. What these men said about Kerry was the truth, and people who took the time to watch and listen understood that.

We need to do the same thing with Clinton. We do not have to make anything up. There is more than enough truth to hang her on her own petard. We should use the Swift Boat Vets example to do this.

I have every attention on getting the news out about Hellary to the public

But I also recognize a set up when I see one

Hence the reason for her latest "Radical Republican" speeches she has been giving
