I’m Sick of All This Prince Bashing
opinion | 4-9-2005 | brianbaldwin

Posted on 04/09/2005 11:14:41 AM PDT by Brian_Baldwin

I love Prince Charles. My wife hates him, which is why I’m expressing my point of view while she is out taking my daughter to Karate lessons and I am suppose to be mowing the lawn.

I suppose Charles has not mowed any lawns of late, and I hold no grudge for that. Personally, I love mowing and gardening (I’ve heard tell the Prince also loves to get into the garden), but this was my chance to take a peek at some of the CNN coverage of the wedding. I think I should get right to the point, for those who try to poke fun at “the looks” of Camilla Parker Bowles, I say it’s envy and I say she is one fine looking lady for any woman of her same age, and she is personable and I don’t care what her “background” is or was, she carries a royal decorum of a mannered and elegant female – I congratulate the Prince on such a fine choice. For those of my conservative brothers who criticize the Prince in such vulgar manner to point out his ears, I should only point out President Bush’s ears, or face for that manner, in conjunction with “What Me Worry?” and remind those that as many and much more say the Prince is a handsome man and I would agree. By the way, I am a conservative, a nationalist, but not a Bushie, yet I want to assure that I find my President is also a handsome man and a moral man.

The royalty is in a sense also the head of the church, and the medieval moralists have warned us against envy as one of the seven deadly sins. We hear a lot of sins lately, and of the need to confess sins to consummate this marriage – but let me speak on one of the seven deadly sins called envy.

For those of you who are envious of the Prince, of this wedding, and his Lady, I say that your envy is sin, and it is not enough to avoid envy but you must learn to appreciate other’s achievements and rejoice in their success and good fortune. I rejoice in the achievements of this Prince, and in his good fortune, I feel this marriage of love will bring him good times to the end.

Opps! My wife is back! I’ve got to go …

So, the end to all this Prince bashing.

The wedding is Swan Lake, not only as theatre but in goodness and elegance. Prince Charles, I wish you good joy on this day, congratulations on your marriage to such a Lady, and best wishes from America! I know you’re actually of French blood, but I don’t hold that against you, and I always admired a good Norman.

It makes you wonder how miserable some people are in their lives and marriages. I think when you really are in a loving beautiful marriage, you wish everyone could have what you have. That's what I wish for all who marry. Like the Pope said, when you marry, you create your own Church and that a beautiful, magical thing.

The other night Jay Leno kept making snipes about Camilla's looks. I e-mailed his show and asked if Leno thought he looked like Mel Gibson. I can not imagine how horrible it would feel to be publicly humiliated and likened to a horse or cow. Princess Diana had her own private demons BEFORE she married Prince Charles and I can't think being involved with her could have been a picnic. Very, very needy.

Hear Hear! Anyone wonder why we dumped "Great" Britain in 1776?!

Ah, someone else who doesn't seem to know what the 'Great' bit actually means.

Oh well.

I feel sorry for her that Charles didn't return her love. Anyone who has ever been in that situtaion knows how she felt. I include myself in that area. But you can't make someone love you. Either they do or they don't. I believe she knew from the git go, that he loved Camilla. She knew what she was getting into.

You're blaming Charles for her death? Please don't forget that she threw herself down a flight of stairs in hopes of killing her unborn child. The girl had major psychological problems. It's hard to love someone who thinks so little of themselves.

I am too! He may be kinda weird with the "symbol" name change and all the purple and whatnot but he is a smokin' hot guitar player! Possibly one of the most underrated guitarists around.

just trying to add a little levity to this thread...

I don't have the affection for the Prince you do but I am sick of the bashing and the snipes at Camilla's looks.

I think they're just two old soul mates and should be left alone to make a life for themselves or to fail at it, but let them have the chance.

The biggest problem the Royals have is Monarchy has long since moved on in England and these people are kept by the public in a sort of human zoo. They serve very little purpose other then to fill tabloids and sate the publics lust for salaciousness.

The smartest Royal in England's history was the one who abdicated the throne. If all the Royals had the fortitude to do this both they and the public would be freed, though I suspect bear bating would make a comeback.

I agree with you about wishing them happiness. I don't have feelings about him as a person one way or the other but I never thought that Diane was this great person that some seem to think. I think they both did things wrong and he certainly wasn't responsible for her death.

I think Diana loved Charles in the beginning, and I feel sorry for her

Diana played Charles like a fiddle to get him to the altar. Let's not forget she claimed to love the country life in Scotland, hunting and trudging through the marshes, and quiet evenings at home....until the ring was on her finger.

Diana was no "innocent". She wanted to marry the crowned prince of England; and she made it happen...learning well from her sister's mistakes.

I'm not THAT fond of Charles, but I do feel bad for him sometimes. And for a prince of his time, he could have turned out a lot worse. Seems a basically decent fellow to me, though he ought to have married Camilla sooner. Much sooner.
I would ask his detractors: with the hand he was dealt, are you sure you'd have done any better?

I don't think much of the royal family one way or the other, except that they are occupants of a perhaps quaint, but colorful ceremonial institution with very old roots and traditions.

In my mind, this constant bashing of them has a lot in common with the class warfare rhetoric of the Left.

You're blaming Charles for her death?

Indirectly, yes.

Please don't forget that she threw herself down a flight of stairs in hopes of killing her unborn child.

I never saw it as hoping to kill her child, but rather an impulsive act of desperation.

The girl had major psychological problems

And mature, responsible husbands don't aggravate them, but are supportive and try to get them proper, competent help.

It's hard to love someone who thinks so little of themselves.

Maybe in your world. I've seen a lot of ordinary men do extraordinary things for their wives who have run into psychological difficulties. She wasn't that far gone, or she wouldn't have been able to do the things she did.

I agree with all you said.

To be in love with your husband or wife makes this life much easier to traverse when you are doing it with the one you love.

Aww, I think most folks just like to poke a little fun every now and again. No harm done!
I hope the two live happily ever after. Their love has endured a lot of trials. I think they belong together!
