I have a weakness for giving her a free pass re: anything she says or does that I don't agree with.

A big one...(click)

I don't think much of the royal family one way or the other, except that they are occupants of a perhaps quaint, but colorful ceremonial institution with very old roots and traditions.

I agree. I didn't watch their wedding...but then, they didn't watch mine either. People need to back off and let them love one another. It is very sad that when two people who love each other finally get married, they are trounced for it. I wish them love and happiness.

Diana was no "innocent". She wanted to marry the crowned prince of England

I never saw it that way. She passed the virgin test. Too bad she didn't screw somebody sooner and disqualify herself. Charles probably did.

Why blame Diana for trapping Charles into the marriage anyway? He didn't have to marry her.

You're belief system is based on our typical American lifestyle. I'm sure Charles had no capacity to help this woman, it was so out of his realm of knowledge. They were too far apart in age and life experience. He offered her a lifestyle which included everything you could possibly want...except love. That's the interesting part. Many women would have made the best of her situation. She was not mature enough to do that. What I don't like is how she brought everyone down with her, that was the most immature thing, IMHO. And don't for one minute think that her dalliance with Dodi Fayed wasn't still a ploy to get back at the Royal family. But it backfired on her, didn't it?

"I know you’re actually of French blood..."

Actually, he's primarily Greek/German -- so it's good that you don't hold his french heritage against him.

The royal family started out as a bunch of German kinglets, who agreed to come over and sit on the throne of England and let the Whig magnates run the country.

All I want to know is, did Jerry Vale sing? Did he sing "After all is said and done,You're the only one,
Girl of My Dreams, It's you "?
Frankly I thought Camilla would have looked far better had she wore a veil.

Please pardon my intrusion to your dialog with someone else but, I think Charles married Diana to have heirs, and that was all. I may be wrong, but that's just my opinion.

Charles had no capacity to help this woman, it was so out of his realm of knowledge.

That's no excuse. He seemed pretty well read up on architecture.

I don't like your "he offered her a lifestyle". Who wants a lifestyle where your husband loves someone else but is stuck with you?

Maybe he's the one who should have made the best of the situation.

Your lack of compassion is chilling. Backfired on her? It did that.

Maybe there will be more backfiring down the line.

I don't believe anyone has mentioned what kind of example Charles has given his children. He married Diana and promised to be faithful. He knew he loved another woman and planned to cheat on his wife with her. And did! He also planned to have children while being unfaithful to their mother. So much for family values.

So...can you explain the significance of Charles having a tyre pressure gauge in the top of his sock....?

I would have thought that the Royal Land-Rover comes complete with driver and the requisite tyre pressure gauge....?

You're right. He was in his early 30's and was getting pressure to produce an heir. It ain't easy to find a virgin nowadays. I think she had unrealistic expectations.

Thank you for saying it so eloquently. They were totally unsuited for each other, and instead of going out with grace, she's the one who made it ugly. That's how I feel. She was immature up to the end.

I don't know for sure why he married her. Sounds like another king who messed up things royally. Granted, marrying for love has been an alien concept for centuries.

I still think Diana loved him in the beginning. Under the circumstances, she was a wonderful mother to her children. I will never forget that picture of her on the roller coaster with one of her sons. She wanted to show them what normal life was like. She loved those children.

I don't like to see her memory besmirched by some of the chauvinistic attitudes on this thread. Charles good old boy adulterer gets a pass while Diana is trashed, bless her memory, imperfect creature though she was, like most of the rest of us.

It's funny you should mention Leno. Last night he had that Gilbert Godfried dressed up as Camilla and although it was mortifying, I was literally crying with laughter. It was so funny, but mean-spirited! (but still funny)

Virgins nowadays are nearly as scarce as hens teeth. :-)
