I don't know for sure why he married her. Sounds like another king who messed up things royally. Granted, marrying for love has been an alien concept for centuries.
I still think Diana loved him in the beginning. Under the circumstances, she was a wonderful mother to her children. I will never forget that picture of her on the roller coaster with one of her sons. She wanted to show them what normal life was like. She loved those children.
I don't like to see her memory besmirched by some of the chauvinistic attitudes on this thread. Charles good old boy adulterer gets a pass while Diana is trashed, bless her memory, imperfect creature though she was, like most of the rest of us.
She loved her children, no one can take that from her or say that she didn't.
I wonder if her little redheaded son, I forget his name, would have worn a swatiza(spel) to a party if she had been alive. I don't think so. As an after thought, doesn't he look an awful lot like that red headed soldier she was in love with? His names escapes me as well.
There has always been a double standard where philandering husbands are concerned. Some of the men on FR are no different than any other man.
Their's, Charles and Diana's life has been a tragedy almost from the very beginning.
Too bad they both couldn't have found happiness together but, I guess it just wasn't in the cards for them.
