Happy birthday, you near-geezer.
By my vote I asked him to lead and he has done precisely that. I disagree with you in that it is not about popularity but about him doing what he views as right thing to do.
Thanks for the ping!
Congratulations!
I turned 18 last February.

(Yes, I'm kidding)
**"Q Are there any qualities that you're specifically looking for [in the next Pope]?
THE PRESIDENT: I'm not a part of the selection process."**
Right on, Mr. President!
>>>It would be nice if the media remembered this.
That really struck me too, It is so nice to see someone simply trusting in the process rather than feeling he has to interject himself.
Q Your predecessor suggested that the Pope would leave a mixed legacy, even though he was a great man. Since you differed with him on the war to such a great degree, do you also think it will be a mixed legacy?
THE PRESIDENT: I think Pope John Paul II will have a clear legacy of peace, compassion, and a strong legacy of setting a clear moral tone.
SMACK!
It was actually February, in Pisces. When you get to be my age you, too, will lose track of them pagan months.

Thanks for posting this.
As if I didn't love this man enough already! We are fortunate to have such an honorable person as president.
What an amazing, revealing interview. I can't imagine any other president in my lifetime (I was born in 55) able to combine the intelligence and humility revealed here. Time and again, GW hits just the right note. Amazing. And who are those people again who claim that he is stupid?
REPORTER: Italy is going to pull out 3,000 troops, I think, by the fall. Will you be able to absorb that?
THE PRESIDENT: I don't know why you say that. I'm not sure why you said what you just said.
REPORTER: I thought that was the number of troops Italy had in Iraq, and I --
THE PRESIDENT: They've got 3,300 now, and you said they're going to pull 3,000 out by the fall?
REPORTER Well, I guess -- I don't --
THE PRESIDENT: Okay. What I did hear was is that the Prime Minister wants to work to make sure we complete the mission. But I'm not sure where that came from.
*giggle*
Thanks for posting this! From time to time I forget what an incredible person GWB is - interviews like this remind me why I voted for him and worked on his campaign.
Thanks for the ping. I enjoyed every clear word and thought he gave. He made sure to emphasize to these reporters to write accurately about what he steadfastly believes.

Wow, what a humble man. I am so thankful for people like Bush. His answers on Faith and the Pope are a look into his heart.
This is a day I will never forget
