A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day
Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997.   Over 100,000 people have registered for posting privileges on Free Republic, and the forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.
A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day was introduced on June 24, 2002. It's only a small room in JimRob's house where we can get to know one another a little better; salute and support our military and our leaders; pray for those in need; and congratulate those deserving. We strive to keep our threads entertaining, fun, and pleasing to look at, and often have guest writers contribute an essay, or a profile of another FReeper.
On Mondays please visit us to see photos of A FEW OF FR'S VETERANS AND ACTIVE MILITARY
If you have a suggestion, or an idea, or if there's a FReeper you would like to see featured, please drop one of us a note in FR mail.
We're having fun and hope you are!

Some of the words of Pope John Paul II

by JohnHuang2

With the death of Pope John Paul II, I'm giving politics a breather this somber week. I'm well aware that, on matters of faith and politics, not everyone saw eye-to-eye with him, or with any pope for that matter. Yet, on keynote Culture of Life issues, and on matters of family across the board, we shared much in common, Catholic and non-Catholic alike. In his teachings there was, on balance, much more that united than divided us. Evangelist Pat Robertson, founder of the Christian Broadcasting Network, called him "the most beloved religious leader of our age -- far surpassing in popular admiration the leader of any faith." Wanda Franz, president of the National Right to Life Committee, put it this way: "Pope John Paul II was an unfaltering voice for the unborn, the disabled and the elderly and was a strong defender of the right to life. His stalwart opposition to the evils of abortion, infanticide and euthanasia was grounded in compassion and love and he will be deeply missed."

President Bush, who led the nation in mourning Saturday in a televised address, said this: "The Catholic Church has lost its Shepard, the world has lost a champion of human freedom, and a good and faithful servant of God has been called home . . . Throughout the West, John Paul's witness reminded us of our obligation to build a culture of life in which the strong protect the weak. And during the pope's final years, his witness was made even more powerful by his daily courage in the face of illness and great suffering."
On this solemn week, I thought I'd put together some of John Paul's most memorable quotes, as posted at WikiQuote.org:

The cemetery of the victims of human cruelty in our century is extended to include yet another vast cemetery, that of the unborn.

~~~~~~~~~~
Man always travels along precipices. His truest obligation is to keep his balance.
~~~~~~~~~~
The truth is not always the same as the majority decision.
~~~~~~~~~~
Science can purify religion from error and superstition. Religion can purify science from idolatry and false absolutes.
~~~~~~~~~~
The worst prison would be a closed heart.
~~~~~~~~~~
Marriage is an act of will that signifies and involves a mutual gift, which unites the spouses and binds them in their eventual souls, with whom they make up a sole family -- the domestic church.
~~~~~~~~~~
An excuse is worse and more terrible than a lie, for an excuse is a lie guarded.

~~~~~~~~~~
When freedom does not have a purpose, when it does not wish to know anything about the rule of law engraved in the hearts of men and women, when it does not listen to the voice of conscience, it turns against humanity and society.
~~~~~~~~~~

When you wonder about the mystery of yourself, look to Christ, who gives you the meaning of life. When you wonder what it means to be a mature person, look to Christ, who is the fulfillness of humanity. And when you wonder about your role in the future of the world, look to Christ
.

As you know, President Bush, who met with the pope three times during his first term, will be in Rome Friday to attend the funeral. He becomes the first U.S. president to do so. It is "my great honor, on behalf of our country, to express our gratitude to the Almighty for such a man," the President said Monday.
As a Bush supporter and a Catholic, I've never been prouder. Thank you, Mr. President.
And may the Holy Father rest in peace.

And that's...
My two cents

We're always glad when you visit the halls of The Finest, Issaquahking..:))

While I'm not a Roman Catholic, Pope John Paul II had an extraordinary life, rising out of the horrors and oppression in Poland to - by the grace of God - mortal greatness.

As part of the reason for the thawing of the "Cold War," we are indebted to him for his devotion to the plight of ordinary men and women, helping us all reach a higher level of humanity.

"FRiends of Slick Willie"
(To be sung to the Grateful Dead's "Friend of the Devil")

We abhor Butch Reno...and we'll take Slick Willie down.
Honor 'tis to FReep fer Right till Big Guv'ment's not around.
Ya think I'm funnin' as I make my rhymes...
But friends of Slick Willie ain't no FRiends of mine!!
Leftist HO's defend Slick's Blight...
TREASON's why we FReep tonigh-ight!!

Clinton is Pure Evil, knaves...Slick snowed Dem-Medyuh shills!!
Cowed the Right from action...let's be Brave and DETHRONE Bill!!
Future's Sunny, but we'll first smite Slime...
No friend of Bill Clinton is a FRiend of mine!!
Leftists know Clinton's not Right...
Justice's why we FReep...tonigh-ight!!

I drove on up to DeeCee...brain-dead Lib'rals fought me there.
Took my hard-earned dollar bill but I vanquished their PUNK, Terry.
Think I'm funnin' but I know what's Right...
DemFriends of Bill Clinton shall be Doin' Time!!
I set goals...ain't 'fraid ta Fight...
Justice's why I FReep tonigh-ight!!!

Got two reasons why I stay awake each lonely night.
The first one's named Sweet Liberty and she's my heart's delight.
Second one is Justice, Willie, Ol' Mudboy's on yer tail!!
And when MUD catches up with you, you'll spend yer life in jail!!

Gotta wife and children, Slick, but yer thugs shan't cow me!!!
Broaddrick says Slick raped her, Tom, but Brokaw said, "BITE ME!!!"
Lib'rals' Love Him, but I think Slick's SLIME!!
No friend of Slick Willie shall be FRiends o' mine.
I set goals, ain't 'fraid ta fight...Justice's why MUD FReeps tonight!!!

(BigMan on guitar, Fireman John on mandolin...justa cookin'!!)

Got two reasons why I FReep away each doggone night.
The first one's named Sweet Liberty, my God, I know I'm Right!!
Second one is Justice, Terry, MUD knows yer Sordid Tale...
And when Truth catches up with you, you'll spend yer life in jail!!

Gotta wife and children, Bill, and you got Hillary...
Chelsea knows she's not yer child, Webb Hubbell's genes flow free.
Think I'm funnin' but Slick's arse is mine!!
No friend of Bill Clinton, boy, Justice Be Thine!!
Bill can roam...but Slick can't hide!!
Justice makes MUD FReep fer Righ-ight!!

Faithful Ambition

Read:
Galatians 6:12-18

God forbid that I should boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ. -Galatians 6:14

Bible In One Year: 2 Samuel 16-18

cover In the late 19th century, a former student of Oxford University became the Lord Chancellor of England. One of his classmates became Britain's Foreign Secretary. A third gained an international reputation as an author. A fourth, Temple Gairdner, was perhaps the most gifted of his classmates but did not achieve fame and influence. Why? He accepted Jesus as his Savior and lived as a missionary in obscure and dangerous places.

Gairdner could have become as well-known as his fellow students. But when he decided to become a missionary, he wrote to his sister, "I have found ambition dreadfully difficult to cope with. It seems so natural, especially with one's upbringing and education, to look forward to making a mark and a name, and so awfully hard to resign oneself to living and dying tucked away in some corner."

We probably will not be called upon to make that kind of sacrifice. But are we willing to serve our Savior in radical obedience? To serve Him faithfully we must put aside our own interests, as Paul did: "God forbid that I should boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ" (Galatians 6:14).

We don't need to be famous. But we do need to be faithful wherever God calls us. -Vernon Grounds

Let us then be true and faithful,
Trusting, serving, every day;
Just one glimpse of Him in glory
Will the toils of life repay. -Hewitt

The world rewards quick success; God rewards long-term faithfulness.
