FreeRepublic Pledges (Vanity)
TheHound

Posted on 04/06/2005 6:50:29 PM PDT by TheHound

Why do these pledge periods have to take so long? For a measly $66,000, I would think the pledge period would only last about a week. If everyone who used this cite for longer, in a year, than they do reading a magazine subsciption, pledged the price of a magazine subscription, I believe the pledge amount would be met in about two days. I certainly hope the day never comes when I have to see "Cialis" ads blinking on the right side of the FR page so they can pay for bandwidth!

Difference is I don't get letters from other subscribers to the same magazine labeling me anti-Christian and part of a deathcult if I buy the magazine.

This site is truly in trouble.

LOL. Oh, really?

Pardon my pointing this out, but aren't you a bit new here to be stating the eminent demise of FR so resolutely?

Do you have any idea how many times in the history of FR that someone has opined that "these are the dark and final days of FR, while stating that all the "really important" people have left, and aren't coming back!".

I guess such predictors don't realize (or care about) the slur they have just put upon those FReepers who remain (you know, the "little people" who are just too darn dumb to know when to abandon ship when they obviously have been told that the "elite" FReepers have boarded the life boats.}

And yet, every time, they forget that the Captain (JR) owns the boat, all others are just passengers (some paying, some not), and the ship will continue to sail along fine, even if it only has the little people on board.

Why do you think that OPUS posts get such ridicule around here? The only OPUS that would ever count would be when JR decides, and posts, a permanent shutdown date for FR. If that ever occurs, then there is reason to believe that this site is in trouble.

Many times the fall of Rome (FR) has been predicted, and yet, FR just keeps on drumming', like the Energizer Bunny.

It's kind of nice in here without so many of those not-so-pro-life posters, who would condone the premeditated murder of a disabled woman, IMHO. It's like stepping out to the country and taking a good deep breath of fresh air. As for the FReepathon: not to worry. The donations will come more slowly, but they will reach the goal.

Well, how did you vote in the latest FR poll "Was it wrong to kill Terri Shiavo"?

Wow, and you're an "old-timer" saying that! (No offense intended--it's just nice to hear such from at least one of FR's venerated "old-timers.")

This may have been the case in the past. As for opus threads being ridiculed... that has not been the case with recent 1000-2000 post opus threads getting tons of support from unhappy posters. btw- check the profile... I am not new here.

Dont forget that there were long time freepers who were called nutjobs, moonbats, fringe extremists, and holey rollers and snake handling morons. The knife cuts both ways. One of those groups just haven't run an opus a day about it and demand that every play pit party games.

Yes, it was true in the past, a number of times. And it is true today, i.e., your previous post.

All of the previous cycles of OPUS posts contained support and ridicule, as do current OPUS posts.

I read your profile. The only comment I can make concerning your history on FR is: "If you say so."

But of course, since you have been here for so long, you know there have been posts by folks swearing that they were really JR (hopefully in jest, but considering some of the weirdos that haunted FR in the past -- maybe not all were jesting.)

BTW, after reading your profile, it appears you are pretty unsatisfied with FR, so I guess FReepers will either see an OPUS from you soon, or you will just fade into the sunset, never to look back.

You're not exactly a newbie yourself, though! I'm glad you enjoyed my post. In my opinion, if we start executing people who have the mentalities of puppies, but are fundamentally physically healthy, we are on a very slippery slope akin to what most folks thought was the right to have an abortion in the first trimester of pregnancy. Now a just-about-to be-born-child can be legally killed without any anesthesia, no less! Let's keep the genie in the bottle this time. Well, it's already too late.

But if by 'come together', you mean contribute to FR...?

That was NOT the intent of my post, no.

I think you are right about that as well. Pouters usually try to do the most damage they can with their tantrums.
