Cop Accused Of Raping Daughter Released

A 42-year-old police officer arrested on charges he raped his teenage daughter has been released without bail, prosecutors said Wednesday.

Prosecutors in Queens had requested $25,000 bail for the officer, whose name has been withheld by authorities. Queens Criminal Court Judge William Harrington ruled the defendant could go free after issuing an order barring him from having any contact with his 15-year-old daughter.

The officer has been charged with rape, incest, endangering the welfare of a child and sexual abuse based on allegations by the girl that he raped and molested her several times since 2001, court papers said.

The man's 20-year-old daughter also told investigators he fondled her when she was a minor, but the statute of limitations prevented any further charges, police said.

The officer, who worked in Manhattan, was arrested on Monday and suspended from the force. Authorities said they were withholding the officer's name to protect the identities of the victims.

The officer was represented by a union lawyer at his arraignment, but was expected to have a private attorney at his next appearance on April 18. The new attorney's name was not immediately available.

Wow... a cop who (allegedly) raped his own daughter? There's a guy who will have a fun time in prison, when the general population learns what he did for a living and what his (alleged) crime was.

Almost makes you feel sorry for him, when you think what's in store for him. Then you remember what he is accused of, and lose any and all pity - if he is, indeed, guilty.

There's a guy who will have a fun time in prison,...

Ah, dude, that presumes a judge would actually sentence him to prison!

Might as well give the guy a sign that says, "f*** me." That'll be the reaction of the general prison population.

Boo-freakin'-hoo. Unless he is, in fact, innocent.

This guy isn't going to do any time. The judge let him out ROR. I think that the key line in the story is this: "based on allegations by the girl that he raped and molested her several times since 2001.... I'll bet that his defense will be some sort of PTSD. He might have to do some time in a psych hosp but no jail time.

After Judge Greer ordering the death of a disabled citizen without
apparent consequence, nothing surprises me.
Just this minute got off the phone with a Republican caller who wanted to survey me about "Howard Dean's new agenda" I told him I did not give a durn about Dean, that I am concerned with the
Republican party allowing the Dems to fiibuster and judges to get by with breaking the law. He was going to ask me for a donation, but I told him I had spent the afternoon calling Republicans and was too disgusted with Repub leadship to discuss sending money.
Grrrrr!!! I wish I had time, space, and words to tell you ow I really feel.

laws and rules are only for the little people. Public officials are above all that.

Unfortunately, I think you may be right. Sometimes I think our judicial system needs a major overhaul.

He may get ROR, and spared the wrath of the inmates, but how about facing the wife/mother of the girls.....

I want to know what the evidence is first.

Lots of wierd accusations come after someone leaves the family or reaches adult age.

Sometimes the accusations are true, sometimes not.

I thought the clock didn't start on the statute of limitations until minors became adults. Then it runs x amount of years ? So the question is, at what age does a minor reach his/her majority ?

Yeah. Another thing, why is it that there's NO statute of limitations when it comes to priests?

The statute of limitations may be extended for some years after a minor reaches 18, but usually no more than two(well, that's NJ law for PI cases). It does apply to priests, but I think you are confusing "criminal" law with "civil" law, and in many of these cases the plaintiffs haven't sued the priests (who in any case can't be tried criminally since the S/L is run) but they are suing the Church. It would be interesting to look at some of those cases and see how cleverly they've gotten around the S/L date, but obviously they have.
