Kansas voters gave a resounding yes Tuesday to a constitutional amendment prohibiting same-sex marriage, providing what supporters hope is momentum for more bans nationwide.
With 133 of 210 precincts reporting statewide, the measure was leading with 70 percent of the vote. In Johnson County, with all precincts counted, the measure passed with 60.14 percent of the vote.
The Rev. Jerry Johnston of Overland Park, who pushed for the ban, said the amendment was not about discrimination, as opponents claimed.
This was about being pro-family, he said, as he monitored results with a small group at his First Family Church.
Archbishop Joseph Naumann of the Archdiocese of Kansas City in Kansas, another supporter, said he believed opponents would have been highly motivated to vote.
That's why I think these numbers are very good, Naumann said. Marriage has always been understood as between a man and a woman and I think people understand that today and feel strongly about it.
Opponents who gathered near the state Capitol in Topeka were disappointed but not surprised by the outcome.
The vote is not reflective of the typical Kansan, said Steve Brown of Prairie Village, a member of Kansans for Fairness, a group that worked to defeat the amendment.
Eventually, moderate Kansans are going to stand up and say they've had enough, Brown said.
With the victory, Kansas becomes the 18th state to incorporate such a ban in its constitution. Thirteen of those states, including Missouri, passed similar amendments just last year. Alabama, South Dakota and Tennessee have votes scheduled for 2006, and legislation has been introduced in 14 other states to put such a measure on the ballot, according to the National Conference of State Legislatures.

Was this the original headline? If so, you've got to love how the MSM tries whenever they can to subtly affect public opinion and spin things their way. Look at how the headline is phrased. If someone glances quickly, what's the first thing they see?
Kansans Approve Gay Marriage Amendment
And I'm pleading ignorance here, but was this actually a "Gay Marriage Amendment"? Or was it a "Let's define what marriage was, is, and always should be: One Man, One Woman" amendment?

Can partially answer #1.
In KS it only requires 51%. The percentage will vary by state based upon the individual constitutions.

Have you notice the MSM/LIBS/GAYS propaganda when ever something like this takes place ?
For example ?
Remember last year after the horrible ratings, showing, movie flopping ( I am sorry, I am at a loss for betters words to use here for that movie ) of the movie Alexander ?
And the liberals, the Gay media and the propagandist said that the reason that the movie did not do well is because the average American is not " intellectual ready " for the movie, or not artistically astute for the movie ( this is such arrogance, and condescending attitude of the lib/gays ).
And, how they never except the fact that it is their failed and perverted sick agenda that is failing.
That their lifestyle is what is the problem, and the average American just does not want it or accept it.
And in this article, it was said that the vote and the passing of the amendment " is not reflective on the typical Kansasonain ( please forgive me for not being able to come up with a better term )" from this Gay Propagandist.
This sounds so much of the leftist, MSM, GAY agenda lies and deception.
This is the same BS lies and deception that we heard from the Liberals and the MSM about how 60 % of the average Americans believe that Terry's feeding tube should be pulled.
Have you noticed ? that ? that is what the MSM and the Liberals have been saying about the average American opinions and beliefs, that most of Americans come in line in what the liberals believe ?
To the contrary !!
Most Americans DO NOT ! believe or accept what the liberals, the gays, feminist believe.
Did you read in this article, that Mr. Brown said that eventually, the moderates will stand up and oppose this amendment. ?
This is nothing more than the liberals, MSM, Gays propaganda machine spreading their lies and deceit, and brainwashing the SHEEPLE into believing that this is what the American public wants.
I don't know, maybe someone can articulate in better words and meaning than I can in what I am trying to say here, in other words, the left, libs, gays, all say that " This is what most Americans want " ,, when in reality ? this is not true, and it is even to the contrary.
One can see the depravity in their gross DELUSIONS that they believe that is what the typical American wants.
However, their gross delusions, will keep on winning us elections for years to come.

The web page has changed since I first posted this thread. They snipped off the last three words "by wide margin," but that's just a superficial change.
The title made me do a double-take, too.

Hey, Petronski. I forgot to send you my condolences about Laura's engagement. Sorry. Tough break, that.
You can always hope that one of them backs out!

They will just try to find a tyrannical judge to over rule that amendment, and trow out the elections of the people.

States with constitutional bans: Arkansas, Georgia, Hawaii, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nevada, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Utah
That is so far...that will likely grow to 50 soon...

Yeah, because if you live in Kansas and you don't pay much attention to the news or to politics, you could easily think, by looking at the headline only, that Kansans just approved an amendment that ALLOWS gay marriages.
I don't know if it was intentional or not, but I'm paranoid enough that I wouldn't put it past them.

The headline came for the Kansas City "Red" Star.
I doubt it was unintentional

208 out of 210 reporting in. Looks like 207 have said YES!
Stevens just reported in and passed it
Logan still has a precinct out, but is leaning towards it
Douglas (KU and liberal nirvana) still has a precinct out, but is leaning against.

You mean, it's never been " controversial " until now, until the GAY AGENDA made it a controversy.

That's because my hometown paper, the Kansas City Star, is good only as a birdcage liner.
The editorial staff of that paper is nothing but a bunch of screaming squirrels.
