VANITY NOTICE: I've just learned that I am an "EXTREMIST!" WOO HOO!!

Nicest compliment I've received in a long time.

"Extremism in the defense of liberty is no vice; moderation in the pursuit of justice is no virtue."

Y'all might want to be careful who you hang out with. If you are pro-God, pro-life, pro-family, pro-constitution, pro-Liberty, pro-America and post to FreeRepublic.com, you risk being labeled as an "extremist."

That puts you in the company of extremist folks like George Washington, John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, Ben Franklin, & Co.

As extremists, "We must all hang together, or assuredly we shall all hang separately."

Speaking of quotes from our extremist forefathers, someone sent me these this morning:

George Washington - "..And let us indulge with caution the supposition that morality can be maintained without religion... Reason and experience both forbid us to expect that national morality can prevail to the exclusion of religious principle."

John Adams - "Our constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other."

James Madison - "We've staked the whole future of American civilization not on the power of government, far from it. We have staked the future ...upon the capacity of each and all of us to govern ourselves, to control ourselves, to sustain ourselves according to the Ten Commandments of God. The future and success of America is not in this Constitution, but in the laws of God upon which this Constitution is founded."

Noah Webster - "No truth is more evident to any mind than that the Christian religion must be the basis of any government intended to secure the rights and privileges of a free people."

I see it as a civil dispute between family members to determine whether the legal guardian has the power to take a certain action.

And as a result, an innocent American was put to a slow death by dehydration and starvation.

Jim, I take issue with some of the things you have said on this tragic case. I say this not as a malcontent but rather as a proud freeper who continues to enjoy myself and post regularly on Free Republic (I post at several other places but FR is my home and the preponderance of my online activity is here). And I will continue to post here as long as I can.

Also, in the Schiavo case, I was against the removal of the feeding tube and I supported the actions of Bush and Congress. I don't believe that they were pandering to a bunch of holy roller theocrats and frankly I get tired of hearing that.

However, I feel that it is wrong to advocate that either of the Bushes should have taken executive action in defiance of a court order. Now, I don't believe that the court orders were wrong and I don't believe that judicial activism took place. I believe that there are two possibilities: (a) The judges followed the law but interpreted it incorrectly, in other words, they simply screwed up. (b) The judges followed the law and interpreted it correctly but the law itself was faulty and needs to be fixed. But even if the law had been illegal I feel that executive action by the Bushes would have still been wrong. It would have violated the separation of powers principle.

Checks and balances = separation of powers. The hands of the Bushes were legally tied. Only a higher court can rule the decision of a lower court.

Also, if a judge screws up, he can be removed from office. If a law is bad, the legislature can fix it.

We must have faith in our system of government. It's why we are free.

If that was true, schools would still be segregated. And what gave Greer the power to thumb his nose at a Federal Supoena for Terri? Or ignore Terri's right to legal representation? Our judges are out of control and need to be reigned in and Congress has the power and the right to do so.
