(Letter to Boston Globe) A cautionary note to Democrats
The Boston Globe ^ | 4/03/05 | John Ranta

Posted on 04/03/2005 2:19:30 PM PDT by raccoonradio

THERE'S NO need for me to add to the many critiques pointing out the hypocrisy, narrow-mindedness and self-imposed ignorance of fundamentalist Christian voters like the Wilkersons (''For family, religion shapes politics," Page A1, March 29). I'm writing for a different reason, which is to caution Democratic Party leaders against pandering to these fundamentalist red staters. As the Wilkerson article pointed out, some in the Democratic Party feel it is necessary to appeal to the religious right in order to win national elections. Such a shift would lose as many voters for the Democrats as it might gain. We've already got one party that talks the Jesus talk but walks the walk of bigotry and ignorance. We don't need another. Howard Dean should know that many progressive voters will cease to be Democrats if the party becomes another GOP. JOHN RANTA Peterborough, N.H.

This letter shows again why they STILL don't get it. Written by someone in southern NH (no doubt a Mass. expatriate--the state is turning more and more blue and did go for Lurch this time around). Actually, Democrats, keep doing as you have been: demeaning religious Americans...and losing.

>> but walks the walk of bigotry and ignorance

DUH!!

>>many progressive voters will cease to be Democrats if the party becomes another GOP.

What will they become then...Communists? or are they already...

Heh, heh. When you're right, you're right, Mr. Ranta.

Have another drink of Kool-Aid. You've earned it.

"...because a liberal is a socialist, and a socialist is a Communist"--Jay Severin

Why is it that DUmmies keep comparing Bush and the Republicans to Hitler, when the very name of the Nazi party was short for National SOCIALIST! The swastika guys are on their side, not ours.

No doubt a Mass. expatriate who now lives in the quaint community that inspired the play "Our Town", Peterborough, N.H. Nice scenery in the Granite State (as there is next door in VT and ME, too) but more and more blue-state voters. Sad that NH didn't go our way this time. Only 3 EVs but clearly the libs down in the southern tier of the state are starting to outnumber the conservatives elsewhere.

I have long believed that the Boston Globe falsifies many letters to the editor. For years that was my favorite page in that paper, and I always went there first after the front page, but things changed some time ago.

I pick up the Globe usually once a week or so and the pattern is always the same.

Occasionally the Globe will print a dissenting and rational letter, but mostly they publish mindless (and I do mean mindless) liberalism.

NH isn't really turning "more and more blue". We've always had a modest-sized union, dependent, and commie crowd, and W's Texas schtick probably plays less well here than anywhere in the Union.

Effin' had a marvellous ground game-the state was flooded with Volvos and Subarus from MA and VT Monday night.

Next time, the GOP candidate won't be a cowboy and the RAT won't be from Mass-we'll be red again.

"Howard Dean should know that many progressive voters will cease to be Democrats if the party becomes another GOP. JOHN RANTA"

It's been my experience that the little kiddies who threaten to quit playing your game have the least input on who wins.

Oh, and what's all this "progressive" talk about? Have the Democrats even had a new idea since the 3 decade old Roe v Wade nonsense?! Surely their idea of "progress" isn't 32 years old...

The Boston Globe became a standing joke to me after they published a picture of 2 kook morons who mistook porn actors dressed up in dark camouflage sans insignia, blue do-rags, and tennis shoes for American soldiers.

You got THAT right. As a lifelong New Hampshireman from a family who has lived here 350+ years, I have seen the Massachusetts Expats fleeing their fouled nest only to do the same here. I was terribly embarassed and a bit suprised that my state went for Lurch, even my seventy year old Uncle - a lifelong and very active Dem in Portsmouth NH - voted for Bush because he knew Kerry was (as he put it) "A hypocritical piece of shit."

"We've already got one party that talks the Jesus talk but walks the walk of bigotry and ignorance. "

And that would be the Democrat Party, which,

wanted Terri Schiavo to die ASAP,

wants no compassion for suffering chiildren in childbirth,

wants African-Americans to continue to get a bad deal from Social Security, with no seed money passed on to the next generation,

wants to force minorities and economically disadvantaged into crappy sub-standard schools,

wants slavery and tyranny to continue in the middle east (after all they're Arabs and it's their culture, and it wouldn't be right to cram life and liberty down their throats),

This article is pretty funny since the democrats were founded by a bunch of Christians who evolved into being concerned about helping others and leaving nobody behind. His new democrat party has evolved into a totally new anti-Christian animal in the last 30 years. These people have no clue of the history of the US....without fundamentalist Christianity there would not be a US today.
