The Whole Town's Talking: Rattlesnake bites Lander man on lip, tongue
Jackson Hole Star-Tribune ^ | April 03, 2005 | JOHN MORGAN

Posted on 04/03/2005 3:57:39 AM PDT by SLB

A pet rattlesnake bit its extremely drunk owner once on the finger while the man was playfully flicking its head, then bit him again on the lip and tongue after he attempted to kiss it, reports the Lander Journal.

According to Sgt. Gene Galitz's popular column "CopsCorner," the Lander man, identified as Rattlesnake Bob, was driven to the emergency room at the Lander Valley Medical Center on March 23 by his girlfriend. When he saw a patrol car at the hospital, he refused to get out, saying he hadn't had much luck with cops.

Galitz tried to persuade the man to seek medical attention, but the man refused. Luckily, the snake's bites did not inject venom.

"I'd bet the next morning the snake woke up with a hangover and Rattlesnake Bob woke up wondering who pierced his tongue and forgot to put in the decoration," Galitz wrote.

We get lots of calls about bites while picking berries or beans.

Snake thinks its a nice sheltered area to lurk in while the mousies come buy for bean or berry lunch.

Had to look it up:
Two cowboys are sleeping out on the range, when one of them wakes the other with a scream. "What is it, Tex?"

"I just got bit on my privates by a rattlesnake, Jeb." Jeb replies, "I'll go for help, Tex." and, jumping on his horse, blazes into town. Waking up the doctor, Jeb asks him how to treat rattlesnake bites.

The doctor says, "You have to suck out the poison, or your friend will die." Upon returning back to camp, Tex asks, "What did the doc say?"

Jeb replies, "Doc says you gonna die."

If this guy can kiss rattlesnakes, we need him as Senate Majority Leader.

That's the only way to "play" with them (rattler at business end of the rifle!).

Rifle, huh?

Either you're a very good shot or extremely sporting.

Back when I was a kid, we used to use modified 410s.

The snake actually had some discretion. He seriously provoked it, but both bites were dry. Seems like the snake was smarter than he was.

A while back I was browsing snake books in a pet store and came across an article on the care and feeding of boas. They're tropical snakes and need a tropical environment. They can also get to be quite large, about 12 feet. According to this article proper boa care required a cage about four feet on a side that could be kept at about 80% humidity and 80 degrees farenheit. Also, since snakes can't be housebroken, somebody (probably mama) has to go into the cage at least once a week to clean out snake waste. Then there's the little problem of keeping the mildew down in the snake's very moist and humid environment. The bottom line is that, if I were you, I'd be more inclided to get a less care intensive snake, like a North American Corn Snake, which is likely to grow to about 6 feet.

HEHEHE Patience and some pointers from more experienced dad helped alot. I like the sound the tail makes, only when it's cut off. How did u modify your 410? sounds interesting.

Reminds me of my crazy Aussie drinking buddy in Singapore.

After drinking enough booze to float an aircraft carrier, we walked staggered past a snake charmer doing his thing with a king cobra, about three feet of it's body standing up out of it's basket.
Without a word, Jack nonchalantly slapped the snake down, picked it up and bit it in the top of the head, killing it instantly.

That cost my buddy a lot of booze money to get out of that one!

Thai's used to play a game with the big king cobras....they'd find one in the tall grass at the edge of the runway and encircle it. While others distracted it one would step up an slap it on the back of the noggin........after a half hour of this game the King Cobra would just stroke out from stress and die.
