My opus from FR? Not.

Some long-time valuable posters have announced their opus to leave FR today. Well I don't. This is my family, this is my home. I may have serious disagreements with other posters and may occasionally be discouraged at the direction FR is heading. But I am not a quitter. I am staying right here, right where the center of the action is, and I will never quit. So what if others post offensive comments or views? It's a free country. Anyhow, I'm not leaving, and there is no opus. I'm ready to take on the 21st century and drag it kicking and screaming over to our side. Long live the bastion of news and free speech, Free Republic!

I was a regular at alt.impeach.clinton before stumbling upon FR. Talk about uncivilized.

Non-quitters are to be respected, even if I don't always agree with them politically.

I was a regular at alt.conservative, rush-limbal (sp), and whitewater.
This place is a walk in the park on a spring day compared to the total nuclear war at usenet.

I might leave a forum, but I love FR and will never leave it! God Bless all Freepers, even those I disagree with.

Is it selfish or egotistical to publish an opus? In most cases, probably. But FR was important to most of them and it's their way of cutting the cord. If they didn't mean something, they'd be completely ignored.
I suppose - but it seems that an old timer would better serve EVERYONE (including themselves) to say, "I'm THINKING about leaving, and here's why..." If you really care about FR, why wait until you're fed up enough to leave before you pontificate?

In Poohbah's case, he did. He notified us on multiple threads several days in advance that he was leaving and why. Many, including me, tried to talk him out of it. The only warning I had about hchutch was a freepmail about 2 minutes in advance of his opus.
If I leave this forum I doubt I'd do an opus, at least not as a separate thread. I've already had one, LOL. Another Freeper wrote and posted my opus as a prank about 5 years ago. Pretty funny.

That's even MORE damning then. He was in no danger of leaving you folks with questions, so the opus was simply a play for attention.
In short, I maintain that such an opus represents a slice of the same imperviousness to discourse that the posters claim to despise. It's a last-ditch, sucker-punch-and-run to all the playground bullies.

For every Poohbah who leaves there are 10 more willing to take his place.
