Feral cat nuisance plan under attack By Robert Imrie, Associated Press Writer

WAUSAU, Wis. — A La Crosse firefighter who as a youngster cared for a cat named Fluffy ignited a firestorm by proposing that free-roaming wild cats be declared an unprotected species in Wisconsin — just like skunks. People could shoot them, drown them or kill them by any means without being charged with a crime.

I have two Huskies so the cats would never survive in our house. I built a cat house on my front porch and have three neighborhood cats who I feed and take care of.

Feral sounds soo Democrat!

I was waiting for this. Posting a dead run over cat picture that has caption "Free Cat" Think your funny. You are a SICK person!!! Taking pleasure out of this is how mass murderers start. Why don't you get a job with the police keeping people for feeding Terri.

Spraying pesticides is a good thing---when they also admit they are killing off birds and fish. Development is a good thing ---if they also take blame for the disappearance of birds.
Admit some responsiblity.....be an adult.

I'd be willing to bet he would be even more demonized if he had called for open season on feral dogs.

In Texas feral dogs are a menace as they quickly turn into coy-dog packs. Shoot them on sight.

Hey JD, lighten up!

After it gets run over a few more times and flattens out and then dries up, the kids can play frizbee with it!

Recycling is a good thing!

My sister-in-law lives on a farm where many a cat was dumped by stoopid pet owners over the years.

She always fed them, when needed, as they rid the barns of rodents, insects (nothin' like a good, crunchy grasshopper), etc. .

The problem was in-breeding until she found a feral cat org that spayed/neutered them for free: here

Most places have volunteers that can help....before anyone shoots, check out the volunteers in your area.

No, that recipe would be cat, onions, mushrooms and broccolli stir fried and served over rice.

dogs runnig lose (feral or not) cause problems. If unchecked they can completely run deer out of an area. Have had two occassions to shoot dogs running deer-but could not do it.

Lighten up. People taken pleasure of an animal being run over is not funny. To me it shows cruelty. How would you like to be run over. I saw a cat run over & its not funny. That poor cat how he screamed. That poor cat was in such agony before he died.

Woo Hoo,

Pile them up and let's have a good look at them.

The only thing bizarre here is folks who don't want to take responsibility for their cats.

And you seem to be tops on that list!

Actually you will see people using poison bait to kill them off if this law is passed. Poison kills all cats, not just feral ones.

Here in South Carolina it is legal to kill all feral (formally domesticated) animals, whether they be cats, dogs, goats, hogs, etc. It is expressly forbidden to poison any of these.

I live in the country near a major city. There is a bridge down the road where all of the good city folk come to dump their unwanted pets. Literally hundreds of pets a year. Most die quickly of starvation, not having the skills to hunt.

I will and do shoot any feral that comes on my property. I have few neighbors and am well acquainted with their pets so that is never a problem. Every year I have to shoot about 15 feral animals. Believe me when I say it is an unpleasant duty but a necessary one. I did not ask for this problem, but I will not shirk from my responsibility like those that are dumping these animals.

By the way, I have two cats that were both formally feral. Best mousers you have ever seen.

Yo! JonDavid!

My swipe at cat-cooking was a JOKE!! I don't eat ANY meat...and particularly not cats! I just don't care for them, especially in the house. They jump on the cabinets, table, etc., and I'm no clean freak, but an animal jumping up where food is prepared or served is NASTY!

And China is not someplace where I EVER plan to visit or live!
