I heard Judge Bork say that the judiciary was rotten. He said that they had no authority to ignore Congress' Bill or their subpoena. He said the whole thing is out of control. He never said the Executive didn't have the power to act.

nice to hear from you again too, but you might not like me in this tread, I am very much on the life side of this fight.

Now that you are here I will have to use the damn spell checker that always slows me down. ;)

They remain undeterred because their hormones have taken over their brains (at least in some cases).

Machismo at its finest.........all the while, safely sitting in their cozy little living rooms at their computer keyboards. I really admire them for their bravery, don't you? ;o)

"This is one battle lost in a long, long war against the evil that is trying to take over this country...........and you and others on this thread are asking that we shoot our own because they lost this battle."

you are angry because
1. people do not think the Bushes are following through.
2. you talk about not "shooting our own" but trash talk people upset about TS being murdered - called them trolls earlier.
what kind of blatant hypocrisy is that?
3. you assert that i judge people by what is successful? no, a lot of evil endeavors are successful - e.g. hitler was successful in murdering millions of jews. you judge things by the fruit that they bear.
i judge yours to be sycophantic and blind loyalty, enough to "shoot your own" in the back when they get angry about a "bay of pigs" taking place.

4. it is not a "shooting of our own" to ask people in power to do the "right thing" when someone's life is at stake! you exhibit the precise kind of blind party fealty that democrats are proud to claim. and then slime people who would like to see something right done for a change by our elected executive...

two attorneys on this very thread who disagree

What a surprise, now what profession turned our legal system into such a mess that only they can figure it out and even then only sometimes.

Well, I heard him say that Jeb Bush had no authority to act more than he has.

That doesn't conflict with saying the whole thing is out of control, however. It clearly is.

But he did say that Jeb couldn't do any more legally..........and that's not a snow job.

Peach, when it all is hashed out, you and I probably agree more than we disagree.

We all have personal stories that shape our opinions. I have a sister with spina bifada. We've loved and cared for her for 40 plus years. I think I probably look at Lisa and what she has meant to our family and then think of Terri and am so sad her family didn't have the chance to love her that way. It's incredibly emotional.

I've lashed out in anger and frustration at Jeb, George, DeLay, Frist, congress, the media and.....my cats.

I don't think you are pro death. I know you're not. And I'm sorry that this sad situation has caused such bad feelings among regular members that have been through so many ups and downs together.

I'm sorry

You have a right to your opinion and I respect that, still it doesn't serve Jeb any political gain not to save her if he could so I am inclined to believe him when he says he cannot. If he could he would be a hero to so many, why would he pass up such an opportunity, no no he really has been put in a no win situation and some of us want to crucify him for it, I will not do that to him or the party.

That's not at all what it is. You show your ignorance of this case. This is a momentous case for our system of justice and checks and balances and the Constitutional Republic stands in the balance over it. You do yourself and everyone a great disservice by dismissing it so callously.

With all due respect, I do not misunderstand the case. The checks and balances are working just fine--1) Judge Greer interpreted the law as it was written, 2) the FL legislature did not change the law in order to change the outcome of that decision, and 3) the Governor respected the will of the other 2 branches.

The federal government took extraordinary action to get the case to a federal court, which it did. It faired no better there. They did not have the necessary votes to insert the feeding tube by fiat; they did the best they could.

I did not dismiss this case. There is still the issue of what is to be done. This case has shown us 1) the need for a living will and 2) the overbroad definition of life support to include a feeding tube. Those things can be repaired. Unfortunately, Terri's life had to (likely) be lost in order for those things to happen.

And I am not callous. I feel for the pain of the family, and of those on all sides of the issue. What I refuse to do is demonize everyone who disagrees with me. I also refuse to descend into hyperbole.

As I've learned more about this case, I have had to reconsider earlier positions. I learned many things that have changed my intuitive stance. I still feel the decision is wrong, as there was no de novo review as I think could have affected the outcome, but I no longer see the case as a crisis for our system, nor as a herald of nightmare. It remains a personal tragedy that all the nation is witness to.

Well, they don't respond well to the notion of putting up or shutting up, but I hope that in their hearts they will ask themselves why they expect more of another American than they would ask of themselves. Risk is for everyone else, it seems.

I would also hope they would forsee the dangers of an executive branch that defies the law when they disagree with it.

Call me an optimist.

Well fine. If it's all good enough for you and Judge Bork who am I to argue? Just some macho computer cowboy sitting comfortably at home. Not a great American hero like you. I'm sure everything will be great. Don't let your heart be troubled. Terri's euphoric about now.

The Constitution of Florida says The People are sovereign — like kings. The People of Florida vest the supreme executive authority in a governor in their constitution.

Well, heck, why don't they just rename the governorshop of Florida the ReichsChancellorship and be done with all the legal niceties?

Some people need to realize that its not always going to be a Republican holding that "supreme executive authority", so you may want to be careful how broadly you define that power.

"One man with courage is a majority" - Jefferson.

I suppose more than one Nazi reference in a post is bad form, but this just begs for a ReichsChancellor reset.

For some reason, I suspect Mr. Jefferson was talking about the courage of a private citizen, not the "courage" of an Chief Executive who wills himself to be a "majority".

Political Deathwish vs. Actual Deathwish
Pubbies better make up their minds. I have voted straight Republican ticket for the last 8 yrs because I thought with enough support they would then have the power to prevent the forward march of liberalism. BUT...I guess the death lobby includes a good number of conservatives as well! Who woulda thunk it! NOW I am confused as to where they really stand. Even when they are majority power they cower in the face of the MSM and DemoRATS. This is not just about Terri... this will affect us all. This is a precedent for EUTHANASIA pure and simple. The offspring of the Hemlock Society has it's bony fingers all over this.

LOL. I never dislike posters simply because they disagree with me. Indeed, sometimes, that makes me like them more. That is just the way I am. Cheers.

As much as you. The distinction, of course, being that I'm not whining all day and night that the President of the United States and the Governor of Florida won't break the law for me.

No.

1. I am angry because people are BLAMING the Bushes for what is not their doing.
2. Those people were trolls. LOTS of people are signing on just to join the Bush bashing parties. Unless you are terribly naive, you are aware of that fact. I am FURIOUS that Terri is being murdered.......more angry than I have ever been in my life.
3. You have completely inverted the point on this one. You are blaming Jeb because he did not succeed (or has not thus far). It has nothing to do with Hitler's 'success' in murdering innocents. You only diminish your argument by twisting the essence of what I said.
(And cut out the stupid, stupid 'sycophant' stuff, OK? Look up the word, and never use it again as wrongly as you just did).
4. It IS shooting our own to blame Jeb for this. And to blame the President is utterly foolish.

What is the goal here? Is it LIFE?? Is it??

Do we want to save lives, or do we want to have Bush bashing parties on FR?

Let's DO something about this, OK? Stop being counterproductive, if you really care about LIFE.

Shout it from the mountain tops that LIFE matters. That every life is precious. Call your Senators and Reps, EVERY DAY if necessary. Support your pro-LIFE President's efforts to return a culture of life to this country. Tell everyone you know about what really happened in Florida, about the judge, about the death sentence of an innocent woman.

Try to solve this problem!! Our future depends on it!
