Governor Jeb Bush, R-Florida, was pained to say he had done all he could do legally. Bush said he wouldn't 'break the law' to save Terry Schiavo. Bush wouldn't, couldn't, shouldn't because he is just obeying orders. The Governor of Florida follows orders from a Pinellas County Circuit judge. In matters of life and death. In issues of cruel and unusual punishment. When due process is denied.
The Constitution of Florida says The People are sovereign like kings. The People of Florida vest the supreme executive authority in a governor in their constitution. Unless, apparently, a judge orders otherwise. In fact a Circuit Judge, whose limited jurisdiction is listed in the Florida constitution can order every administrative and police official across the state of Florida to 'freeze, boy. Do as I order, hear?' So, when a child takes water to a starving, dehydrated disabled woman, the kid is arrested by deputies. They're just following orders.
Good Germans followed judges and other officials in obeying the law of the land 60 years ago. Good Americans today, it appears, also obey the law of the land. The law of the land is whatever a black robed priest-king, called judge, says it is. Ask Gov. Bush where in the Florida Code a Circuit judge can deny a woman food and water unto death. Yet, clearly, it's a violation of Chapter 825 of the Florida Criminal Code to abuse and neglect a disabled person, Terry Schiavo, by starvation.
The Florida Constitution states The People have the God-given right to life for all individuals regardless of disability. Unless an elected lawyer in costume, a judge, says the law of the land is to kill a brain-damaged woman slowly. The abuse of a disabled person by failing to provide nutrition is a felony in Florida. Unless, of course, a judge says 'follow my orders' and won't permit her family to take a picture of her suffering.
Lawful Germans just followed the orders of Nazi Human Secularists. Loyal Russian, Chinese, North Korean, Eastern European, Cambodian, and Vietnamese carried out the orders of Communist Human Secularists. Americans serve Liberal Human Secularism if a judge orders. If a judge ordered a black man lynched, it would be the law of the land.
Why not? Gov. Bush would be so sorry, really, but couldn't do anything if a judge gave an order. But, a judge would never do such a thing, right? The difference between lynching and abortion is proportion and status. One black man dies or 40 million babies die (so far) on the word and writ of robed masters. No one in the executive or legislature used their constitutional powers. Everyone just followed orders.
Abortion was a state medical-legal issue, but five judges out of nine on the U.S. Supreme Court made up a right to privacy. It's written in the U.S. Constitution like the requirement to starve Terry Schiavo to death is in the Florida Constitution and Code. Look and see.
March 28th, 2005 we will see if the U.S. Congress which ordered a subpoena for Terry Schiavo and a new Federal judicial review of her case will follow the orders of Pinellas County Circuit judge. George Greer dismissed the subpoena, backed by the U.S. Code it's the law, with a wave of his hand. Just as he denied Terry Schiavo her freedom of religion to receive communion, until her adulterous husband and Greer's campaign contributor relented for Easter. The Federal judges ignored the law the U.S. Congress passed and the President of the U.S. signed for new look at the case. They rule.
The elected Federal Legislature and Executive is having their bluff called. Attorney General Janet Reno sent in armed men against a Florida court order to take Elian Gonzales from his dead mother's wishes and loving family to return the child to communist slavery in Cuba. Perhaps, Republicans in power just posture.
Reasonable people and unreasonable people, sometimes known as lawyers, disagree on Gov. Bush using his executive power. They fear a Constitutional crisis. Too late. Judge Greer started the crisis, this Dred Scot, with his judicial tyranny. The judge would hold the Governor in contempt. It would take an Andrew Jackson or Abraham Lincoln to be so bold. But, Jeb Bush, nice guy that he is, well-meaning man, and good Catholic, is no 'Old Hickory' and no "Honest Abe'. Jeb, like every defendant at Nuremburg save one, pleads 'not guilty' because he is just following orders.
I believe he does.
Sorry. I agree with the whole thing.
These two situations are NOT the same. Jeb has constitutional protection from court sanctions. Ethrane dpes not. Ethrane does not have the "defy and throw yourself on the mercy of the legislature" option.
I also support President Bush because he is fighting the war on terror with courage and intelligence, and defeating the enemy abroad, rather than letting them attack us here. He has been a magnificent Commander in Chief, and the world is safer and freer because of his leadership.
And I support President Bush because he is a Christian who asks God daily for wisdom, and has asked us to pray for him..........which I do, daily.
You are clearly jaded about the whole family, so I'm sure you won't be convinced by any of that. But in my heart of hearts as a born again Christian who values LIFE, I thank God for giving us a pro-Life President who is actually DOING something to save lives.
And I frankly resent the garbage being spewed on this thread by trolls and 'loyal freepers' that he is anything else.
Don't say "Judge Greer" say "El Presidente Greer of the Banana Republik of Clearwater"
Yep.
Thanks for your response. I am optimistic, but in many cases we still don't have the right people in the right places, and unfortunately an innocent woman is being put to death as a consequence. I have little tolerance for talk not backed up by action. Remember, All that is necessary for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing. There are times when talking or requesting a court ruling is inadequate...and this was one of them.
That can't be counted on. The one sympathetic vote in the 11th was a Clinton judge.
By the way, be careful pointing out that Jeb has come up puny - - some noobs have been calling me a troll lately, lol.
That's not at all what it is. You show your ignorance of this case. This is a momentous case for our system of justice and checks and balances and the Constitutional Republic stands in the balance over it. You do yourself and everyone a great disservice by dismissing it so callously.
And if you don't recognize that the President has led the entire world through his courage, your eyes are sealed shut.
My son served in Iraq for over a year, and he is PROUD to have served under such a strong Commander in Chief. He knows that the entire Middle East is freer and safer because of what the great U.S. military has done..........and they LOVE their CinC because of his respect and love for the troops.
"I'm sorry, Bub, but anyone who equates Jeb Bush to a Nazi does not have my respect, and I don't care how many Purple Hearts he has.
On the other hand, I understand that all this is stuff going on has a tendency to get you hot. Heck, I'm pretty hot as well. It's easy to say stuff you don't mean without thinking them thru."
anyone that maligns people angry about the travesty going on right now does not have my respect. i'll grant that Jeb has done a lot - but the end result is the same. it seems very much like pontius washing his hands... politically taking the easy road out.
unlike "hero skerry" i didn't receive purple hearts for getting my butt disabled in service, nor do i care too. however, this particular action most definitively reminds me of the bay of pigs.
First, if you read my multiple posts on this thread, I have stated regularly that I do not think that Jeb should have gone in after TS...just that he was able to do so if he wanted to.
However, he never should have made intimations to the fact that he was contemplating doing so, UNLESS HE WAS GOING TO DO IT. To do this, he severely injured his standing as a 'co-equal' branch of the FL government.
To make matters worse, he apparently backed down with news reporting that the Pinellas County Sheriff 'was siding with Judge Greer' and intended to enforce the court order, even though the Sheriff's superior in the FL COC is Bush.
My point is that Bush looks like a fool here. Either he should have gone in and got her or not...but to make a motion to and then 'stand down' after initiating action to this extent based on the actions of Judge Greer and the local Sheriff has effectively rendered himself impotent in future state affairs.
Which is it??
And here we have a county judge defying a legislative subpoena and preemptively shackling the governor's authority. IKE made a good decision. I know it's not a perfect analogy. That's why I come to Freerepublic, to hear from the experts in so many fields. Mostly not in this case however.
No problem...this is a heated topic to say the least.
Terri shouldn't be in the hospice with the lovely gardens...we can start there. But you won't. You always look right past her.
I'm not understanding how you are equating the drive to save Terri with harming the pro life movement. Are you just talking about abortion? To me, pro life means any life. Unborn and born.
We don't know what Terri wanted. That's the whole problem. And it's big. And it's important.
Some of us feel starving a person to death is murder. It's very emotional. So forgive those of us who are horrified about what is being done to Terri.
The peaceful hospice will soon be back to the tranquil place you describe. And Terri will be dead and Jeb will go on and do whatever he does and President Bush will have poll numbers rise and fall. And those of us that value life will still fight for life and we will remember Terri and her fight.
Do you propose bringing to a stop the operation of the national government - in fact, the nation - and the defense of this nation including prosecuting the war in Iraq?
I can think of nothing more delightful to our enemies around the world.
And while you're at it, let us know what you have done
