Liberal Abrams Report started a piece today saying, "Is it time to give parents rights over spouse rights? I say no way."
An older and weaker looking Rev. Robert Schuller sat there via distance camera, looking very somber. "I think you've asked the wrong question."
Abrams scoffed, and smileless Schuller answered, "We have to be intelligent. We don't make an arbitarary statements [like you just did] without qualifictions. We don't just say yes this way or no that way,[as you are doing]; that's not intelligent."
Abrams changed the subject, starting about Terri's husband, and Schuller interrupted: "I can't understand why Michael Schiavo still calls himself a 'husband.' He has been with another woman since 1996 with two children. I do not think he has the love."
Abrams got miffed. Schuller sternly and quickly replied to him, "I did not ask to be on your program. You called me." Abrahms glibly agreed, claiming Schuller's opinion was important and that is why he asked him on.
Schuller continued somberly, "There are three kinds of love: Self-centered, which says 'I love you because I want you.' There is Self-serving love which says 'I love you because I need you.' And then there is self-giving love which says 'I love you because you need me.' We hope that the laws [in our country] will allow people to be receptive to self-giving love. "You can't just say that 'because this is the spouse...' I think you asked the wrong question, framing it as parents over spouse."
Schuller was calmly heated. With seeming great sincerity and anger, Schuller said, "I have never written ANYTHING more important in ALL my books than THIS chapter [about the need for self-giving love]." [Emphasis his].
At which point you hear laughs from Abrams, who attackingly says, "What you're saying now might this fall under self- serving love," gleefully insisting that nothing Schuller was saying could be true, since Schuller wrote it in book and gets money for the book.
They showed a graphic of Schuller's book, "Don't Throw Away Tomorrow," with Schuller's calling out angrily in frustration saying that with what is happening in the Schiavo case, "We are throwing away our future!" and "This is exactly what is happening!"
Abrams quickly closed with "I love my parents, but would never want them to have the final say over my spouse."
well I apologize for misspelling....but I hope that I would be judged on the law, and not on emotion. As bad as this is, with all the appeals, interventions and all, that the law in this case ruled on M.S.'s side no matter how distasteful it is
And you are always 100% your mother's and father's child.
What was the legal standard used to refuse anything by mouth?
His goodness as a person is not really the issue. He invited someone on to have his opinion, presented him with a false oversimplified choice, made fun of him. He is a terrible interviewer. I noted that on another program about this same subject. He has an opinion, is aggressively sarcastic and insulting when he presents it. He doesn't shed light, he blocks it.
He is a lawyer. I would say there is an 80% chance he is not a good person based on his occupation.
The Evangelical church I used to go to made Schuller out like he was the Anti-Christ. A lot of people from this church protested when Schuller came to our campus.
Ann Coulter is a lawyer as well as many of the FOX personnel......for instance (and no I"m not a troll by any means)....Chris Mattews AND Sean Hannity are equally as sarcastic and insulting........and even though I agree with Sean 95% of the time, I think his methods of interview and lack of intellectual discourse are alarming.........but I don't think he is a bad person.......he has our best interests at heart even though he comes off as a bully...I for one don't like Abrams all that much, but I wouldn't call him a bad man........and if you read the post I was replying to, yes, the poster made it personal and did refer to his "goodness as a person"......
I'm not an attorney, but after umpteen appeals and both Bush's saying they did everything they could, well I'll put my trust in them......as most of us have up until now
If it were only so. Abrams knows there is much more at stake. It's a matter of numbers, even in propaganda (sp?). MSM has a rough idea of how many people can influence each time they say something. That's what he's doing.
The MSM believes Terri has to die to fulfill a part in their agenda going forth. And from their view, Terri indeed MUST die.
But when our own leadership lend an active hand....
Ack. I'm getting angry all over again.
People in this country do not equate 'husband' to loving anymore because of all the extramaritial flings and pre-maritial affairs. It is indeed only 'in name,' but to they were raised where (emotionally/spiritually) that is the norm. It is not for you and I, and so many others. So to them, though they would cringe to admit it (and the femzs would die if the realized it), marriage is back to being a piece of meat for most women.
I was a VERY strong feminist backer. But only for what it gained me. And let me assure you that despite what women want to think, men had a lot to gain by woment being...free to be themselves.
When I talk to people, especially women, it's amazing how they react when things are laid out in a sequence of action/reaction. They thing it's all about helping them, and t couldn't be further from the truth. I used to be in the middle of all that stuff.... When God moved me by my Faith, he moved me from one side of the spectrum clear over to the other.
While I cannot undo my past, I am allowed to use my past in explaining things. You know how it goes... You've experienced things in life that I haven't yet you can reach me because of those very things you've experienced.
I digress.
And your posting brought to mind something: There ARE communities in this country where multiple wives are accepted and encouraged. They would frown on your observation. Though I am a firm believer in what you said. When he decided to crawl into bed with a woman not his wife, he did forfeit any right to decide her life. It's a pity more don't think that way.
Keep speaking out. The person you reach may be your next door neighbor and you don't even realize it!
He was enjoying the fact that a Christian was in distress at the thought of a person in harms way and at death's door.. because of someone's anger/greed/lust/just plain evilness.
Evil thrives on that thrill.
That's Church politics. It's been around for millenniums and will until Christ's return.
I'm just glad that Schuller and others have openly been vocal about Terri.
I am disgusted with the Bush brothers and will not support Jeb in any future endeavors. Anyone who cannot stand up for the weakest deserves no respect politically.
We've sown to the wind and will reap the whirlwind.
"Who knows which patients as a nurse he did this to."
I love this angle. Absolutely love it. Where, besides the Sherriff's office, has this piece of crap %$)#$ worked? Did anybody die there?
Good try.
"Now go back to your seat and do the assignment. And for goodness sake, young lady, quit chewing that gum!"
Law without MERCY and without HUMANITY is the worst tyranny...Emotion has nothing to do with MERCY.
would you settle for he is not a "nice" man? watch it and judge for yourself.
I agree. I just made the post because I, honestly, don't know much about Schuller. I think some consider him a theological liberal, but it's good to see he's on the right side here.
Sean Hannity.......
I was so proud of Hannity last week shouting down that House Rep from Virginia. I mean, Sean was bombastic, and, disrespectful to a certain degree, but he rescued a bit of my faltering opinion of him there in no uncertain terms.
I would say he "wrong headed" in his opinions and leave the personal stuff behind
"Don't make me scream,
Don't make me shout,
You've gotta turn them pockets......
inside out......."
- Rev. Robert Schuller
emotion has nothing to do with mercy????????>.....I think most would disagree with you on that.....and tyranny it may be, but like abortion, as abhorrent as that is, it is still legal.......
I've been thinking perhaps people should chose to have one of their parents as their health care agent.
They can always make an ordered list of other people (in case their parents die).
You don't need to assign just one person.
I am my mother's health care agent, and my brother is backup, and my sister is next .
