Jeb Bush said on Sunday there is nothing else he can do to save Terri Schiavo's life. "I cannot violate a court order," Bush said after returning to the Governor's Mansion from Easter Sunday church services. "I don't have powers from the United States Constitution or -- for that matter from the Florida Constitution -- that would allow me to intervene after a decision has been made." To Terri Schiavo's parents -- who have said Bush should do more to help their daughter -- the governor said: "I can't. I'd love to, but I can't." The governor has been under public pressure from Bob and Mary Schindler, parents of the 41-year-old brain-damaged woman, and many religious groups to intervene further in the case. On Thursday, a Florida state judge denied a petition by Gov. Bush and the state Department of Children and Families to take Schiavo into state custody. (Full story) The Florida Supreme Court dismissed on Saturday -- for the second time in a week -- an emergency petition by the Schindlers to have their daughter's feeding tube reconnected. "I'm sad that she's in the situation that she's in," Bush said, commenting publicly on the case for the first time since Thursday. "I feel bad for her family. My heart goes out to the Schindlers and, for that matter, to [her husband] Michael [Schiavo]," Bush said. "This has not been an easy thing for any, any member of the family. But most particularly for Terri Schiavo."

What a tangled web we weave when first we practice to deceive.
How applicable to the Terri Schiavo case.
Virtually as soon as Michael Schiavo received the monies from the medical malpractice claim involving his wife, Terri Schindler-Schiavo, he withheld all therapy and rehabilitation services from her.
Terri Schiavo had sustained a serious brain injury as the result of a suspicious incident in their home in 1990 and in 1992, her husband had filed claims against several of her former doctors, claiming her “collapse” was caused by a misdiagnosis. He received over $1.5 million in 1993 including $750,000 which had been specifically earmarked by the trial jury for Terri’s rehabilitation based on a life expectancy of 50 years.
Mary and Bob Schindler Sr., her parents, consulted a St. Petersburg attorney about removing Michael Schiavo as their daughter’s guardian and discussed the case at length with him.
Unfortunately, the Schindlers did not have the amount of money the attorney demanded as a retainer to take the case.
That attorney became the judge in the case-----a totally prohibited conflict of interest.
Thereafter, the attorney-judge approved the hiring of George Felos as the attorney for Schiavo to be paid from the trust fund and the stage was set for her judicial homicide..
The judge wasn’t George W. Greer.
It was Mark I. Shames.
His eyes have first to be opened.
What a fall.
But he's still Gov. Bush.
I guess that is what is important...to him.
Do I believe what I just typed? Sadly, yes.
And that is what makes his fall so terrible.
"Sorry...I don't want a governor calling out the national guard every single time a life if threatened. I would rather the community, the courts, the civic groups, the schools, etc. handled some of the burden. One man can't do it all. You may call that fatalism. I call it a fact."
So you think we should do it ourselves then? Community? I'd rather he declare a state of emergency, before real men take action. No need for the national guard either. He just tells the local police to get out of the way. Surgical, limited executive order.

And in the meantime a woman is dying. Pretty sick, sad and frustrating. This will always haunt the Governors political career.
It floored me.
I felt there was a connection and told my husband so, yet it still horrified me to see the dots connected.
Changed my belief in him as a leader.
Well said and to perform a wrong to correct a wrong is not the way for one to rule in our free society.
Jeb's hand ARE tied for he IS bound to his oath of office. This doesn't make him a proponent of this debacle brought about by others.
Gov. Bush is done politically, not that this is all that important, given that a disabled person's life is being snuffed out in barbaric fashion.
If a little baby crawled out into a busy highway and sat in
the middle of the road, I'm quite sure that Governor Bush
would risk a jaywalking ticket to rush into the street and
save the child even if the Don't Walk sign was flashing !!!
Terri is an innocent and helpless child right now. Therefore, she
desperately needs someone to bravely risk arrest for jaywalking
to save her life from that evil mob of monsters who are blatantly
attempting to murder her ... in plain view of the entire world !!!

Yes, it would be. Laugh all you want. Just don't fall into a coma doing so, or your life may be snuffed out by the government.
A governor has the authority to declare a state of emergency; this places all police under his control and voids all judicial rulings for the duration of the emergency. (Usually this is reserved for the aftermath of a hurricane, flood, riot, etc.) In effect, he rules by martial law.

"After the battle of New Orleans, and while the fact that the peace treaty had been concluded was well known in the city, but before official knowledge of it had arrived, General Jackson still maintained military law. . .
"Among other things, a Mr. Louiallier published a denunciatory newspaper article. General Jackson arrested him.
"A lawyer by the name of Morel procured the United States Judge Hall to order a writ of habeas corpus to release Mr. Louiallier. General Jackson arrested both the lawyer and the judge.

It would be up to the people, then, not the judges, after such a declaration, to decide if Bush exceeded his powers or wisdom in declaring a state of emergency, in order to prevent an innocent woman from being starved to death.
You are correct, of course. Where were all these people when the laws Jeb Bush is following were passed?? Sitting on their thumbs, no doubt.

This is more than one life threatening fire. The bigger picture here is forced euthanasia.
The state appointed 'judges' in Nazi Germany also issued sentences condemning millions to die, and engaged in their monstrous crimes against humanity saying it was 'legal'. The same feeble excuse was used when these ruthless 'judges' were finally brought to justice in Allied court rooms.
That would be great, but it's a fantasy. It would present a precedent for every single life-threatening case, as I said before. Jeb would be expected to ride to the rescue. And the result would be tyranny.
Florida needs to fix their system. That's the bottom line. They showed us how lousy their system was in 2000. Here it is again. The Governor's actions are a bandaid. It's up to the people to change things long term.
If Gov. Bush's family were indangered by Greer and is ilk, I think Gov. Bush would most DEFINITELY have found a LEGAL way to rescue them.
Oh. I also think he would have 'found' a LEGAL way to put Geer out in some little hellhole of a job. ONE WAY OR THE OTHER.
But then, again, when it's a person's own family, amazing how much harder they fight.
The difference is between those like Gov Bush and those who are truly want to fight/change/protect other people who are NOT their family.
Such a monumental difference.
