Gov. Bush: I can't help Terri Schiavo
CNN ^ | March 27, 2005

Posted on 03/27/2005 11:39:47 AM PST by El_Doctor

Rick Barnard of Morris, Illinois, wass arrested Sunday after trying to bring Terri Schiavo Easter communion. per cnn... ALLAHASSEE, Florida (CNN) -- Florida Gov. Jeb Bush said on Sunday there is nothing else he can do to save Terri Schiavo's life. "I cannot violate a court order," Bush said after returning to the Governor's Mansion from Easter Sunday church services. "I don't have powers from the United States Constitution or -- for that matter from the Florida Constitution -- that would allow me to intervene after a decision has been made." To Terri Schiavo's parents -- who have said Bush should do more to help their daughter -- the governor said: "I can't. I'd love to, but I can't." The governor has been under public pressure from Bob and Mary Schindler, parents of the 41-year-old brain-damaged woman, and many religious groups to intervene further in the case. On Thursday, a Florida state judge denied a petition by Gov. Bush and the state Department of Children and Families to take Schiavo into state custody. (Full story) The Florida Supreme Court dismissed on Saturday -- for the second time in a week -- an emergency petition by the Schindlers to have their daughter's feeding tube reconnected. "I'm sad that she's in the situation that she's in," Bush said, commenting publicly on the case for the first time since Thursday. "I feel bad for her family. My heart goes out to the Schindlers and, for that matter, to [her husband] Michael [Schiavo]," Bush said. "This has not been an easy thing for any, any member of the family. But most particularly for Terri Schiavo."

As a matter of fact, he can do something.

As Governor, Jeb Bush is Commander-In-Chief of the Florida National Guard. He can activate the Guard, declare martial law, take custody of Terri, and resume her sustenance.

Heaven help us if he does. The failure here is the judiciary's alone. It has come close to plunging us into a Constitutional crises. The executive and legislative branches of both state and federal government have done their level best stop this crises and save Terri. The arrogance of the liberal judges is revealed to only be exceeded by their hatred of America.

And please note, the liberals are also at last revealing their power structure by using both the judiciary and law enforcement in this. They use the judiciary to enact their agenda without benefit of legislation by "We, the People". And they use law enforcement as their "armed forces" to impose these travesties. Is it any wonder they fear an armed citizenry?!

Terri is being placed in God's hands by monsters in black robes. Now it is time to pray for the Republic.

It is probably best we know this now before he had any aspirations of running for President.I feel for him that he too got caught up in the web of evil.

Yep. "Do not make yolk with unbelievers, for they tend to defile."

Yesterday if you had listened to Felo's news conference, he stated that Jeb Bush could not do anything and if he did at that point Jeb would become a private citizen, be held in contempt and arrested. Sounds to me the judges are in control of Florida and interpret the laws which ever way they want.

Jeb running around extinguishing every life-threatening fire would be more than an inconvenience. It would be an impossibility.

The President is going to suffer as well. I don't, for the life of me, understand why they didn't anticipate this. They have had three years to prepare for this- everyone, who was paying attention the last time we went thru this with Terri, knew where this case was headed and the time frame.

Jeb Bush is supposed to uphold the LAWS of Florida. As BonneBlue said, the judges themselves are not obeying the law. Even the overturning of Terri's Law was unconstitutional. Judges can be unconstitutional, too. The law isn't in their hands to do whatever they darn well please with it - including ignoring and vetoing it, as they have done in the Terri Schiavo case.

You shudder in fear of the executive branch acting "without the consent of the people"? So do I. I also shudder in fear of the judicial branch acting the same way. The judicial branch has overstepped its lawful authority, and it's high time another branch put them in their place. Checks and balances is a wonderful principle - the courts have gone unchecked too long.

Tyranny to preserve the inalienable right to live?

No!

Measures taken outside of the law by a government official can be just as tyrannical as a judge changing law instead of interpreting the laws that are existing.

We need to change the law not break it.

Sadly enough for Terri, there is no time for such a revelation in her case, however for a Governor with a respect for life and a respect for the law cannot and should not defy the oath he/she has taken when entering such a position of power.

Don't take my pragmatic conveyances wrong, I would love to see action taken to change this misdirected carriage of justice with Terri, but heaven help all of us if the breaking of law and changing of the 200 years of "free government" be taken further away from it's roots of freedom and government by the people.

Sorry...I don't want a governor calling out the national guard every single time a life if threatened. I would rather the community, the courts, the civic groups, the schools, etc. handled some of the burden. One man can't do it all. You may call that fatalism. I call it a fact.

I don't think Felos can cite any legal authority for a court to arrest the chief executvie for disobeying an unenforceable court order.

The governor does not become a private citizen because a judge says he is. The governor can only be removed from office by impeachment, trial and conviction in the legislature.

Felos and Greer are on a power trip.

Unfortunately, Gov. Bush let them get away with it.

"The failure here is the judiciary's alone. It has come close to plunging us into a Constitutional crises."

Just like in a mirror: "Objects are much closer than they appear."

We are already in a Constitutional crisis. Good thing Jeb Bush can declare a 'state of emergency' and diffuse it. He can either drive all true Christians out of his state, or he can get her some dad-gummed water.

He isn't helpless.
