Gov. Bush: I can't help Terri Schiavo
CNN ^ | March 27, 2005

Posted on 03/27/2005 11:39:47 AM PST by El_Doctor

Rick Barnard of Morris, Illinois, wass arrested Sunday after trying to bring Terri Schiavo Easter communion. per cnn... ALLAHASSEE, Florida (CNN) -- Florida Gov. Jeb Bush said on Sunday there is nothing else he can do to save Terri Schiavo's life. "I cannot violate a court order," Bush said after returning to the Governor's Mansion from Easter Sunday church services. "I don't have powers from the United States Constitution or -- for that matter from the Florida Constitution -- that would allow me to intervene after a decision has been made." To Terri Schiavo's parents -- who have said Bush should do more to help their daughter -- the governor said: "I can't. I'd love to, but I can't." The governor has been under public pressure from Bob and Mary Schindler, parents of the 41-year-old brain-damaged woman, and many religious groups to intervene further in the case. On Thursday, a Florida state judge denied a petition by Gov. Bush and the state Department of Children and Families to take Schiavo into state custody. (Full story) The Florida Supreme Court dismissed on Saturday -- for the second time in a week -- an emergency petition by the Schindlers to have their daughter's feeding tube reconnected. "I'm sad that she's in the situation that she's in," Bush said, commenting publicly on the case for the first time since Thursday. "I feel bad for her family. My heart goes out to the Schindlers and, for that matter, to [her husband] Michael [Schiavo]," Bush said. "This has not been an easy thing for any, any member of the family. But most particularly for Terri Schiavo."

I respect Jeb's efforts. I also recall that he swore on a Bible to uphold the laws of the state of Florida. No one criticized him when he did that.

Same here. This seems to be almost a call for anarchy and it has gone beyond ridiculous. The Dims are surely delighted that it has turned so many against President Bush and Governor Bush. A certain 'Ms.' in particular just loves to watch this kind of fight amongst the Right. It was very effective against Bush 41, 'you know'.

There is complicity between Gov. Bush and the killing of Terri being ordered by the Judiciary.

I agree, Lancey.

Jeb Bush's political career is now toast. He better find a baseball team for sale.

I hate getting on Jeb's case, considering he has at least put forth an effort, but he obviously *can*.

You are CORRECT he CAN, but then again SO CAN YOU, so CAN any of us. I choose PRAYER.

What else CAN you do? Well YOU CAN do whatever you are willing to accept the RESPONSIBILITY for.

You're a streetpreacher because no one will give you a church? I can understand that if you are comparing Terri to Jesus Christ.

Yep. 2,000 years later there are still crowds demanding the death of an innocent.

There are plenty of people who disagree with Jeb and President Bush. Ann Coulter, Rush and Robert Bork are three for starters.

Actually, Robert Bork said neither Bush has the authority to act.

And here I thought it was going to be border security that was going to hand the keys of the State over to the Democrats.

Who knew it would be something like this instead.

He's trying to play both sides.

He really doesn't need to because the other side already owns him.

And those who THOUGHT he stood for justice are really seeing his true self emerge.

Can we spell JEB CLINTON BUSH?

People will not elect someone who they perceive as weak, and when Jeb got backed down by a freakin' probate judge, that's the message people got.

They also won't elect a lawbreaker.

Exactly. Its just awful how people are pounding away at him. Essentially, unless he defies the order and sends in the national gaurd, people are unhappy. Mayb ehe should have, but to villify him for doing something that had so much risk associated with it iswrong.

Bork would be the one whose opinion carried any weight with me.

Bork is on the side of the Bushes, as I understand it.

Of course we can compare Terri's suffering to that of Christ's. Of course we can compare the spinelessness of our leaders to that of Pontius Pilate. I don't see a problem with either. Nowhere did I compare Terri to Christ as if she is the divine spotless lamb of God. She is just one of his little lambs.

John 15:18-25

18 "If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first. 19 If you belonged to the world, it would love you as its own. As it is, you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world. That is why the world hates you. 20 Remember the words I spoke to you: 'No servant is greater than his master.' If they persecuted me, they will persecute you also. If they obeyed my teaching, they will obey yours also. 21 They will treat you this way because of my name, for they do not know the One who sent me. 22 If I had not come and spoken to them, they would not be guilty of sin. Now, however, they have no excuse for their sin. 23 He who hates me hates my Father as well. 24 If I had not done among them what no one else did, they would not be guilty of sin. But now they have seen these miracles, and yet they have hated both me and my Father. 25 But this is to fulfill what is written in their Law: 'They hated me without reason.'
(from New International Version)

Personally, I find it a little less than ironic that this is taking place during the Easter celebration, thus the appropriateness of my first post.

And regarding your username, I am afraid that is what conservatives may do to the Republicans come next election cycle if they continue to fail on fundamental conservative principles.  We're tired of talk.

Listen to it again. You're the only one who's gotten that impression about Bork.
