Rick Barnard of Morris, Illinois, wass arrested Sunday after trying to bring Terri Schiavo Easter communion. per cnn... ALLAHASSEE, Florida (CNN) -- Florida Gov. Jeb Bush said on Sunday there is nothing else he can do to save Terri Schiavo's life. "I cannot violate a court order," Bush said after returning to the Governor's Mansion from Easter Sunday church services. "I don't have powers from the United States Constitution or -- for that matter from the Florida Constitution -- that would allow me to intervene after a decision has been made." To Terri Schiavo's parents -- who have said Bush should do more to help their daughter -- the governor said: "I can't. I'd love to, but I can't." The governor has been under public pressure from Bob and Mary Schindler, parents of the 41-year-old brain-damaged woman, and many religious groups to intervene further in the case. On Thursday, a Florida state judge denied a petition by Gov. Bush and the state Department of Children and Families to take Schiavo into state custody. (Full story) The Florida Supreme Court dismissed on Saturday -- for the second time in a week -- an emergency petition by the Schindlers to have their daughter's feeding tube reconnected. "I'm sad that she's in the situation that she's in," Bush said, commenting publicly on the case for the first time since Thursday. "I feel bad for her family. My heart goes out to the Schindlers and, for that matter, to [her husband] Michael [Schiavo]," Bush said. "This has not been an easy thing for any, any member of the family. But most particularly for Terri Schiavo."

I'm so glad that Jeb Bush has filled the vacuum created by Tommy Daschle's departure from the political scene.
But next time, Jeb, it's "DEEPLY SADDENED," ok?
So, Terri is in a "situation," huh? Gee willikers, how ever did she just find herself there?
/sarcasm
THANK YOU for saying that!! If this was a democrat gov. and we were on the side of the scumbag husband, if the gov. did step in with police or nat'l guard or whatever, we'd be ALL OVER him for it. I hope Michael, Felos, Greer and the rest of those POS's rot in the fires of hell for what they have done. But for crying out loud knock off blaming Bush... George, Jeb or any of the others for that matter!!
My main reason for the respect and admiration I hold toward George and Jeb Bush is with every fiber of my being I truly believe these are GOOD men... Not just in the "he's a good guy" sense.. TRULY GOOD men!!! I believe that George H.W. and Barbara are wonderful people and parents who instilled certain qualities and values in the two of them. If they were able to do something to STOP this I believe they would have. They can't... When things like this happen, people look to find people to blame who they feel can prevent it from happening. George and Jeb Bush are not those people... LOOK TO THE HUSBAND, FOLKS!! He's the one, no one else... and sadly, he's not going to do it. Terri's leaving this earth is very sad, however, she will be with the Lord very soon and Michael's ability to "call the shots" will be over...
There, she will be dancing with angels.... While Michael's sad, pathetic life on this earth will pale in comparison to that which he will face after.... (if he in fact, is a contributing cause to Terri's earthly life over the past 15 years...)
This is what a girl says when she is turning down a date.
BINGO:
You echoed my sentiments exactly. As sad as it may be, I fear that Jeb caved to political pressures and advice--all the while playing the CYA game.
Now, he can legitimately say he did everything humanly possible and simply cannot defy judge Judy's (oops, sorry, Greer's) mandate. Now he can have it both ways--I tried, but failed and don't blame me.
He had NO legitimate reason whatsoever to hold that news conference and provide the opposition with advanced notice, then worse, with hat in hand, grovel before the(apparently) High Commissioner and Florida Exalted Ruler, Greer, "asking" for permission to take custody of Terri.
What did he expect as a ruling? "Oh, yes, Governor, by all means, go ahead." NOT!!!!
Anyone care to challenge this hypothesis with any degree of logic? Please show me wrong?
Jeb Bush has been trying to help Terri for years now. Longer than most of us have even known of the situation. He is a good man and needs our prayers and encouragement and not our condemnation.
If you didnt know it, he is not perfect but he does try to do the right thing. This is more than we can say about many of our political figures.
Maybe he can't do more like he says or maybe he's wrong. But I am not willing to throw away what little hope we have in decent people governing our country.
To those who wish to compare Jeb to Pontius Pilot remember who Jesus said had the greater sin.
We need to concentrate our efforts on those people who truly deserve our disdain.
Bump!
Sounds like a pretty busy man...having to figure out which is forced and which is unforced and which case to call the Guard out on and which case not to call the Guard out on.
No one wants to see the National Guard a regular presence on the streets. (Well, I guess some people do.)
"Wanting to satisfy the crowd, Pilate released Barabbas to them. He had Jesus flogged, and handed him over to be crucified."
Just asking here, but are we actually at the point of comparing Jeb Bush to Pontius Pilate??? Are we comparing Theresa Shiavo to Jesus Christ??? I'm just asking because if we are, I think we've gone a bit overboard...
There are plenty of people who disagree with Jeb and President Bush. Ann Coulter, Rush and Robert Bork are three for starters.
Excellent observations!
.....of course they are, the Governor and the President just cow-towed to them!
Hmm, welcome to FR Magilla... Here for a day and you make pretty good sense to me... :)
So true, Jeb is a victom too, too bad he is a good man, but when history offer him a chance for greatness he was found wanting. Sad for him tragic for Terry.
Nope. Jeb proved himself to be the perfect politician. Considering his family's legacy, I can't think of a greater insult.
There's actually " a rock" for that??? :-) Happy Easter, Clara Lou!
Yep. His prospects for a possible Presidential run are gone forever. People will not elect someone who they perceive as weak, and when Jeb got backed down by a freakin' probate judge, that's the message people got.
Puleeeeeze...give me a break.
