WASHINGTON (AP)-U.S. military guards discovered a 600-foot tunnel-dug with makeshift tools-leading out of the main prison facility for detainees in Iraq before anyone had the opportunity to escape, officials said Friday.

That fact that they managed to dug a
600 ft tunnel, two football fields, is pretty darn amazing and points out some serious flaws in oversight of the prison.
Me thinks someone was sleeping on the job or being very well paid to turn the other cheek.

Or they found the tunnel earlier, waited until it was almost finished (thanks, seismic sensors!) and the escape attempt was about to be made, then collected all the responsible parties.
