On Fox News Channel, Martha McCallum just announced that Florida governor Jeb Bush will make a statement on the Terri Schiavo case at 3 PM EST.
It's okay. I figured it out. Been on the FR site (Page?) for a while and I'm still getting used to going back and forth!
It's like a marathon talking session and everyone's going at one time!
In most long term care facilities, or nursing homes, the doctors DEPEND on the observations of the nurses and aids as to the condition of the residents. I worked as a nurse for several years in nursing homes in Indiana. For the most part the doctors saw each resident ONCE per month, unless something unusual happened. Many times the doctors could come in for their monthly visits and not even see the patient. They would sit at the nurse's station and read the charting on the particular resident and write any order changes based upon what I charted of my observations. This, of course, was for routine care. During a crisis, the doctor MIGHT visit, or have us transport the resident to the ER.
All the above is just to point out that the doctors would learn about how a resident was progressing based upon the observations of nurses who spent many, many hours with them each week. So yes, I would trust the observations of the nurses and aides who cared for Terri far, far, far more than a doctor or a court appointed guardian.

LOL!! I'm following threads up to my wahoo.
Goodness I hope so. It's like playing chess.
My beloved wasn't surprised. He says Gov Bush (and DCF) have to make sure EVERYTHING is covered or it could destroy the Gov Bush's administration and STILL not help Terri.
He said the same as some others. If they don't do it just right, the first time anyone's back is turned, Terri would pay the ultimate price to ensure no more stuff came out.
You go girl!!! Tell the doubters who earns the big bucks only to see them go to make that Jag payment for even the best of doctors.
So DCF trumps the judge?
"Yes. Greer is in contempt of Congress last I heard."
So why isn't he arrested?
That is why I commented to Hildy the way I did. I never worked in nursing but I have been in the hospital.
The nurses are there around the clock to observe and treat patience, not the doctors.
If you were in a pvs state when you were in your early 20's, you would expect your husband to sit there by your side until you died from "natural" causes? Even if it took 20-30 years? I think that is the most selfish, self-centered thing I have ever heard in my life. I love my husband enough to want him to live a happy and fulfilling life. Not waste it with some misguided sense of loyalty. For God's sake. You cannot possibly mean that.
The hair on the back of my neck rises.
No kidding.
And the trouble with that is, I seem to spot them before anyone in my family/friend circles.
All I can do then, is wait and hope and help, later.
And it's not just men that are like that... I used to believe in my feminazi days that only men were like that...
Have I learned different! Women just to it below the radar screen....
That could be used to describe the Schindlers as well.
Hildy,
You asked Mo1 a question.
You gave your own answer to your question.
You then called Mo1 (and others, myself included) some very descriptive names - all negative, mind you, but indeed very descriptive.
And then you said she couldn't mean that.
When I was growing up, if I did that in those steps, do you know what I was told by my mother?
You don't of course, because you were not blessed with knowing my mother.
If I did what you just did...
Poopy.
I HAVE DONE WHAT YOU JUST DID.
My mother sat accross the table from me (I was about 15, maybe 16) and said the following:
"....(my name, thank you), you just called her a liar."
No yelling. No grounding.
Just a disappointed look.
Was enough - taught me.
Of course there are exceptions...I worked with a few of them.
It is one thing I do wonder about. Given the neglect of the past few years have the licensing boards ever been involved?
If a family memeber of a patient told me not to do ROM, normal nursing care, I'd smile, say "Thank you very much" and do it anyway. And if I was fired for doing my job--I would not go quietly.
I take my marriage vows before God very seriously
If it was my husband that was going through this .. I would be by his side and not with another man
What on Earth are you talking about? Sorry, you lost me at
Hildy,
Bitter, are you?
