PINELLAS PARK, Fla. (AP) - Their options dwindling after two failed federal court appeals, Terri Schiavo's parents and brother vowed Wednesday to take their fight to the U.S. Supreme Court and state Legislature as the brain-damaged woman was in her fifth day without a feeding tube.
Gov. Jeb Bush renewed his call for the Legislature to step in and ``spare Terri's life.''
In a 2-1 ruling early Wednesday, a panel of the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals in Atlanta said the parents, who have battled with son-in-law Michael Schiavo for years over the woman's fate, ``failed to demonstrate a substantial case on the merits of any of their claims'' that the feeding tube should be reinserted immediately.
``There is no denying the absolute tragedy that has befallen Mrs. Schiavo,'' the ruling by Judges Ed Carnes and Frank M. Hull said. ``We all have our own family, our own loved ones, and our own children. However, we are called upon to make a collective, objective decision concerning a question of law.''

Failing that, someone must act or Terri will die.
Were the founders anarchists. They resorted to illegal actions when all recourse failed and violated British laws to create this nation. I believe the issue regarding Terri and her forced killing is a watershed event that deserves serious consdieration regarding civil disobedience, just like the good we accomplished at Klamath in 2001
Just my thoughts on the matter.
Yes, was it Jessica Lunsford's time too?!?
What would you have him do? Please leave the hystrionics at home.
It is heartbreaking to see a person starved to death because her "scumbag" husband got a judge to rule that not only the feeding tube be removed but that she receive no food and water by mouth. That goes beyond anything I can imagine.
If that had happened with me, my Dad would have been busting some heads and would not have cared who -- he wouldn't have been on TV, he would have taken things into his own hands a long time ago with my brother -- have no doubt about that.
Touche, well stated.
I feel as bad as anyone and would bet that not only Jeb but the President has their lawyers looking at every possible avenue so as to not set a precedent in case we get a future scumbag like Clinton.
It is the Florida Senate we need to concentrate on -- from all accounts one vote separates Terri from Life -- pray they get that one vote and Jeb has the power to act.
All this about her husband and what he has done is hearsay and needs to be sorted out -- unfortunately the scumbag is innocent until proven guilty. But the Florida Senate CAN act and must to save her LIFE!
I didn't mean that everyone has wanted anarchy but some on here have advocated that. Our President has to make sure what he does is not only the right thing but is legal. Same with Jeb.
Even CNN says persistent vegetative state is not the same as brain death.
Terri is not brain dead.
Maybe by charging him with adultery it would at least make some people aware of the fact that he entered into another committed relationship with another woman and has fathered 2 children while being a "devoted, loving" husband to Terri. I have met people who think Michael made this decision because he was so in love with her and this is "the last gift he could give her" . When I tell these people a few facts about Michael and the things he has and hasn't done, the overwhelming response is "I never heard about that" ... the truth changes their entire perspective about what's happening to Terri
I second.
I am Christian and conservative, as is my wife. We believe that removing the tube is the right action as we both would not want to kept alive ourselves. I know this troubles you...but as a Christian, you know she is 1/2 step from God. I
hope you can take some measure of comfort in that.
Take Terri into protective custody. That's what.
Heavenly Father - Please forgive us for our wavering faith during our little sister Theresa Marie Schiavo's time of greatest need. Please strengthen our testimonies of Thy healing power and love. In the Precious Name of Jesus Christ, our Master. Amen.
There has to be one that God has touched that will change their vote for Life!
Jeb should have acted sooner. I fear it is too late for Terri now. Latest reports say her tongue is swollen, her cheeks appear caved in, and lines are appearing on her face--all signs of severe dehydration.
How can any civilized society allow this to happen to one of their most vulnerable members?
The Governor has a duty to make sure she is protected and the Judge is obstructing the very purpose of that investigation. I believe he could and should act. If there's a constitutional crisis, so be it. There already is. He can fight it better from his position than Terri, and Terri would be vouchsafed while it went on.
I also believe we must focus on the Senate, but believe this avenue worth pursuing in the mean time and at the same time.
There are allegations and apparently evidence of attempted murder.
You nailed it 100%...
Oh and our own desires is how we judge what is right. I get it. What Bible are YOU reading?
I am less worried about her (horrific as it is) as I am about the heart of this country.
We need MORE people in Siplin district to contact State Senator Siplin, and tell him to stop this murder.
