They should be strong enough to go against the grain for the sake of a human life.

I'm not going to judge them for doing what their job dictates. If they had not arrested the woman, their jobs could have been in jeopardy.

I don't think these poor deputies should be catching any flack. They didn't make the law, they didn't interpret the law. They are just there to enforce it.

Exactly.

Had any one of those people given Terri the bread & wate on Sunday, Terri would have choked to death.

She can not chew or swallow.

They're just doing their job.

Sure enough.
The police protect and serve.
Physicians do no harm.
Judges decide what's right...

Now I don't recommend cruelty to animals, but somebody might think about bringing a parakeet or rabbit in a cage to that site, and stay there 24/7, and publicly deny it food, even if for a week or more, and wait how long until the local Florida Humane Department comes over and breaks it up and feeds the animal, causing a ruckus. Then, news reporters could film that and the American people could be shown the amazing contrast.

This is beautiful and bears repeating.

Any cop who would thump on me for "spilling" a little water on him would deserve the lawsuit I would visit on him.

Accidents do happen, after all.

They seem to be handling her gently; which is a good thing.

I am wondering (hoping) that some good cops will say, enough of this crap and get Terri out of that Roach Motel.

(props to Mrs don-o for the naming of the place.

#109..More...you want to see more?

Go down there and get arrested....be 'more'...

It's easy to sit here cheering her on....

..but you won't be with her when she's fingerprinted, photographed, searched and everything taken away from her.

You won't be with her in the dark of night, when she's wondering whether she will get out of jail....or if they will throw the book at her.

You won't see her scared & frightened tears...

This woman has more courage than anyone I've seen in a long long time!

May God protect her.

You have a funny way of showing it.

Not every comment has to be on the rightness or wrongness of what is taking place in the case. Some comments can be simply, "Dude, how did you let that old fat woman get past you?"

Hmmm. Hadn't thought about that. Gotta tell you, that would be some heck of irony. The pro-life activist gives her something to eat or drink that ends up killing her. That's the kind of stuff Alanis Morrissette songs are built upon!

Starving a disabled person to death

There will never be any explaining -

This is one fo the most shameful things I have ever witnessed or even imagined.

How truly enlightened we are as a nation and culture.

And we have the audactity to call Muslims barbarians and lecture the Chinese on their human rights. How truly pathetic we are as a nation.

The next time we attempt to lecture any other country like China on their human rights record, I wouldn't be surprised if they told us to STFU.

Far too many have expressed their acquiescence. I think the percentage is higher than we would have expected perhaps a month ago.

For so many, it boils down to "I wouldn't want to live like that." (I had this argument twice with two separate family members over the weekend.) The problem is that the case is NOT about what anyone wants except Terri, and we don't know what she wants, so we MUST err on the side of caution.

I can't understand why people make it so complex. She left no written directive. Therefore, we keep her alive.

That's why I commented on the deep, philosophical, (and perhaps sophomoric) nature of the comment.

Michael Schiavo fan?

'shame on those deputies"

And shame on their wives and parents who do not talk to them NOW. A job is not worth it if in doing the job you kill an innocent person.

Shame on their friends for not contacting them.

Shame on their pastors for not being IN THE FACE OF THESE DEPUTIES AT THE FACILITY.

Since Terri does not drool, she apparently can swallow..her own saliva. She was able to swallow but her "husband" insisted that she only be fed through the tube to make her dependent on it.

The Catholic Worker technically considers itself a Catholic anarchist organization - that is, believing that the only government is that of God, and has a sort of distributist economic vision that in practice is highly left wing (and, oddly enough, leads to tight government control, but that's a contradiction they never seem to have examined).

Some of the people in it are quite left wing, while some are more of the "Catholic libertarian" type. In this case, I'm very pleased to see that some of them have a strong pro-life orientation; there was a while, during and after the Vietnam war, when the organization was essentially just a left-wing draft dodgers haven, with the opinions you would expect these people to have. But obviously not now, which is encouraging.
