US House of Rep. in an Extraordinary Sunday night Session [Schiavo] (Bush Signs Schiavo bill)

Posted on 03/20/2005 6:03:40 PM PST by FoxPro

This is an unprecedented session. The Congress is meeting to save one persons life (in real time).

The only reason the Democrats are agreeing to this is that they don’t want to be known as the party that killed Terri.

This is American history happening before your eyes.

Today, I signed into law a bill that will allow Federal courts to hear a claim by or on behalf of Terri Schiavo for violation of her rights relating to the withholding or withdrawal of food, fluids, or medical treatment necessary to sustain her life.

Well intentioned, but stupid. Involving the federal courts is a big mistake. Sinkspur is right. The courts will just declare this law unconstitonal and refuse to hear Terri's case.

Instead, Congress should have declared that Terri's rights under the 14th Amendment have been violated and, exercising powers granted to Congress in section 5, ordered the feeding tube restored. They should have also included a section stipped the courts of any jurisdiction to review this law.

Let's hope they have the cajones to take the above course of action should the courts invalidate this law. It's time to show the courts who is boss. I'm not holding my breath, though.

He's the one that called for a vote right? We owe him a thank you. We now know who voted yes, no, or sat on the fence.

I'm watching an old interview with Michael now, on Larry King, and Michael is saying that Terri's parents only wanted the money, it's always/only about the money with her father says Michael! I had to walk away...the HINO is such SLIME!

All were pro-aborts.

That's really where their love falls: all abortion, pro-abortion, all the time.

I'm not real up on all the names. I want to know how the Senate voted, too. Harkin, Hastert . . . too many names lately. I know one of the names (congressmen) I mentioned personally and he has disappointed me somewhat in the past. He redemmed himself on this one.

Tenure is irrelevant.
Trolls probably registered the same day JimRob opened the place.

I could put *anything* on my page and most people would tend to believe it true, simply because FReepers are, as a rule, honest.

I came to the internet via a WebTV nearly 9 years ago.
The old adage "on the internet, nobody knows you're a dog" is *so* true.
I've learned that the hard way.

Darned environmentalists, always trying to save the wrong species.

That was done using Word. Took a screenshot of the document, saved it as a jpg file.

You can use just about any word processing program and any program that makes screenshots.

Me too, tomorrow morning... Anyone who knows the facts would vote FOR Terri. And anyone who DOESN'T know the facts shouldn't vote, and be embarrassed they didn't research it first!

And after the hospital, they had better not return her to that Hospice of Vipers.

don't think they will, for two reasons: It is illegal for someone who is not terminal to be imprisoned in Hospice - AND the intent is to get the guardianship away from Michael -

They changed it after the repubs did that commercial which supposedly showed a subliminal RAT after showing the word democrat. From then on, the dems have called themselves the Democrat-ic party - but the funny thing is - nobody refers to them as the democrat-ics ..?? but they always refer to them as the DEMOCRATS. That's why it's still legally the DEMOCRAT PARTY!!!

actually my perspective is more from viewing of snobbery of those who frequent state vs federal courts.

It would be similar to those who do misdemenor cases vs capital felonies.

I have seen the tape and don't disagree with you. I have also seen MRI's and expert testimony that contradict what I saw. Yes - I can understand that other people have differing views.

There are many in the medical profession (who are not part of the pro-euthanasia movement) who don't believe she has any higher-order brain function - ie. no conscious thought.

To reiterate - I'm very glad Terri has been saved. I'm not happy at all at some of the language directed at others with opposing views.
